You know,if most of the classic emcees were alive today,I think a special would've been in the works.Oddly enough, Peter and Dick Martin worked in the same place in beautiful downtown Burbank(California).
Well maybe because most of the time he was hosting The Hollywood Squares!! Although I think Gene Rayburn did appear on Squares but I think that was during the mid 60.s before I was born in 1972 when Gene Rayburn hosted the NBC version of Match Game from 1962-69 before he did the CBS & SYNDICATED Match Game WE remember from 1973-1982. It would have been great if THEY would have let Peter Marshall host Match Game for that half hour & also instead of Bill Daily--it would have been great to have Bob Barker on the same show.
Much like my thinking had Peter been brought on do MG/HS hour, he and Gene could have swapped occasionally with Gene hosting Hollywood Squares while Peter did Match Game.
First of all, so called "Peter Marshall" isn't his real name. There was nothing wrong with his actual birth name, Ralph Pierre LaCock He obviously He obviously "sold out" his birth name because of the shallowness of the entertainment industry?! Most likely the change was made as the result of a greedy Business Manager, with perceived notions of greater recognition accompanied with monetary gains? In reality, it's also shows blatant disrespect for one's parents & their family heritage, just to possibly obtain (not earn) a greater buck?!
News flash lots of entertainers dont use their actual names, not as a means of disrespect but sometimes the names just arent "marketable". Gene Rayburn was born Eugene Rubesca, Alex Trebek's real first name was actually George, Pat Sajak's middle name is actually spelt Saddak. Betty White after she married Allen Ludden was actually Betty White-Ludden but continued to use Betty White professionally just to name a few. So maybe do your research before you try to condemn Mr. Marshall.
