Back in the seventies my childhood was filled with camping trips on Murrumbidgee junction, most years for weeks, what a beautiful time it was, also up near Morgan. Love the Murray.

Hi all, there are lots of Murray adventure videos on youtube, but this one has attracted the greatest number of people who wish to follow in our wake.
I've listened to the soundtrack today while working on other projects, with occasional switches to the video: familiar sights and boats.
I've done from the the top of Lake Hume to the mouth in my 9 m flat-hull shallow-draft four-berth cruiser, plus lots of side trips. Only kayaks and tinnies can start at Bringenbrong.
I think that John's epic was based on shorter adventures first. He had all of the right skills and appreciations.
A video like this appeals to armchair travellers (from overseas and Australians), to hopeful adventurers, and to people who have done it, reliving their own adventure.
I know lots of owners who have done Yarrawonga to the mouth, in assorted cruisers and paddleboats; I know more who are nearly at nearly 100%. When I'm on the water, I often meet tinnie owners and kayakers doing the run from Bringenbrong, or from Lake Hume, or from Yarrawonga, as a grand adventure.
Spurred by this video, I have made a start assembling my photos to my flickr photostream: a work in progress, so do return each month.
    www.flickr.com/photos/13175590@N00/50782135762
You can imitate John, and do it in your own tinnie solo.
I am having no luck finding web resources for Pink & Blue Tinnie Fleet. This fundraiser did one third of the Murray per season, on a 3 year rotation. Hence, you are with company and support.
You can imitate me, and do it in your own cruiser. According to draft, you have to pick the right season and year, and you want to build experience first.
You can do only some sections in hired houseboats.
You can go from Albury to Goolwa commercially; one year the company also put the boat onto Lake Hume. In a big-water year, it also went up the Murrumbidgee, Wakool and Edwards, but only regular passengers got the invitation. I had taken my boat up them all on the same water.
    www.spiritaustraliacruises.com.au/albury-to-echuca
This links to the other programs.
If you do nothing else, buy the two chart books (Wright covers Renmark - Yarrawonga, plus 62 km of the Darling, plus a dvd to Albury; Baker & Rescke covers mouth - Renmark - NSW border, plus the Coorong)
If you do want to know more, head to my flickr site, then you can send me a flickr message with a real email address.

Great video John, very much enjoyed it. Shows how peaceful it is up there. I want to do a similar trip on a 16ft fibreglass tiller steer skiff from Albury to Border Cliffs. Not looking to go right to the mouth and cross the lake, do you reckon I’d be fine on a craft like that? Looking to run a little 5hp like you and putt my way down on the go slow. I plan to buy the books, charts, and get a half decent depth sounder. Is there anything else I should know? Can I get all the way on the locks? Or I’d get stuck at Yarrawonga? Cheers

All Australians should be able to do it, but there are sections where hire vessels cannot be taken. Greens have stopped snag clearance and dredging at key spots, so you have to pick your season, and even your year. Google for Spirit of the Murray / Spirit of the Coorong: you can go the whole way from Goolwa to the top of Lake Hume commercially.
