Presentation: “演讲” “演示” “讲座” “做presentation” “pres” “讲ppt” “ppt演讲” Deadline： “DDL” I have only heard my mainland classmates spell out DDL instead of say deadline. Formal emails use different Chinese words depending on context like 提交日期，到期日期，and others。 Project: I mostly hear "project"，but it is always written as 项目 in formal emails in Chinese. Bonus - Run Data: Literally “跑数据” I thought this sounded absolutely hilarious when I first heard it in my statistical software class this semester. I think there's unlimited funny translations from school.
In financial terms, "appreciate" means "go up in value". For example: »» A: House prices are expected to *appreciate* by 20% this year. You should buy as soon as possible. B: Thank you. I *appreciate* your advice. 甲：预计今年房价将*上涨*百分之二十。 你应该尽快买到。 乙：谢谢你。 我*看重*你的劝告。
Another sense of "appreciate" is similar to "acknowledge" or "recognize." From oxford dictionary, the example sentence for this sense is: "they failed to appreciate the pressure he was under."

This was a great video with a lot of terms I've struggled to translate. Here in Taiwan I had been given the following equivalents: deadline: (simply) 期限 presentation/demonstration: 演示 How would you translate the words "festive" (ie. "I feel very festive during the holiday season.") and "meme"?
I haven’t found a good way to translate “run some errands”, as in “ I need to go run some errands this morning”. I have asked Chinese friends, but they can’t quite seem to translate it either. How would you say this?
It's okay. But we Chinese only use 赏识 in a very formal occasion, especially when your boss or leader thinks you're very talented or you have the strong sense of responsibility on your work. They would say it to you : 我 非常赏识你的才能。

I find it annoying when certain English words become the standard way of saying something "in Chinese". (Sometimes the original English meaning is changed somewhat.) There are actually quite a lot of words like that, at least for young Taiwanese people (not sure about other people). Especially when there is a perfectly fine way to say the same thing in Chinese. Of course, there are also tons of new terms in Chinese that have come into existence in the past hundred years, that have been borrowed from Western concepts. I don't understand why specific ones are typically left untranslated.
Today at work I phoned a lady named May Hu. A man answered and when I asked for May, he said May who. I said , sorry I must have wrong number and hung up, because he said "May Who", but later I found out he said May Hu.

Chinese don't like the topic about the death. If we have the friend who just lost their family members. As their colleagues, we would avoid this topic in front of them. Just don't mention it. Because we think it would make them more painful in their hearts. But You know the bad news in front of your friends occasionally, you can say " 节哀顺变" to them. Don't say too much about it

Zhengshi are something like 19th century s group of "accomplishments" for unmarried girls and women-- of Western business and landowner classe---their curriculum vitae--- certain levels of singing, music instrument playing, dancing painting, drawing, certain languages like French,dressmaking and sewing, etc as criteria to attract potential.husbands. 19th century novels, plays, and their modern films often show these. However, not all skills were equally valued----others, like more intellectual or some of more physical activities, were NOT part of standard group of_ accomplishments, no matter how accomplished a woman was in some other less or not accepted activities---she was an expert in "wrong" or less or not "respectable" field for a woman, BUT that dud not stop some women from breaking into all sorts of "men only" fields.

感谢 should be ok. 感激/感恩 is a heavy word, too heavy in daily life. for example, when someone saves your life, you can use "感激/感恩"。
