    I know what you mean about animals in the compost, mine is currently a cardboard box with peelings and scraps in it. No problems for two months, then yesterday a RAVEN was perched on the edge, flinging coffee filters and banana peels everywhere. He did it again today!
    Honestly, I'm happy to have ravens, but I would rather leave out pumpkin seeds than have bits thrown around 😅

      Stark raven mad! I’ve heard people adapt them with chicken wire to prevent rats which sounds like a good idea. Ravens are really intelligent though so I imagine they’d come back with a pair of pliers 😭

    Great you dug out the compost darlek :-) part of the epic journey of clearing the site . On our council allotment it is illegal to have tyres. Please spread the word that they leech toxins and chemicals into the soil and into your crops, as well as micro plastics. Please remove from around your strawberry tower x I speak from experience of clearing my plot, which included 2 fruit trees with tyres around them. The council spend hundreds of pounds having staff come with massive industrial chainsaw to remove them as they have steel cores.

    • @tecmow4399
      @tecmow4399  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I didn’t know that tbh. I just used it to stabilise the tower. It’s not as bad as round a tree I suppose because it won’t get stuck and require cutting out. I’ll probably pull the tower out and stake it then. Thank you

      @Plot10b 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      We have just had a couple leave my site and i was offered a polytunnel frame from them via the committee. So i snapped that up. We aren't allowed to take from plots that have become empty, unless offered by the leaving tenants.

    • @VanderlyndenJengold
      @VanderlyndenJengold 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@Plot10b The sites I've been on do it so it helps clear the plot for the new tennant. Some plots have a lot of what many would consider rubbish yet can be repurposed by imaginative gardeners. Just the other week I took some wet wood, dried and painted it and made allsorts out of it. Some of it was 3 parts mouldy though.
      That was off my pal who didn't want it, yet there's always things left over on derelict plots that can be reused.

      😢 We've been on a list for 4 years now yet we've been told an allotment site near us has at least 6 neglected pitches, we can't have one as the 'owners' of those pitches pay the yearly rent! Clearly no committee to 'police' the lack of activity.

      @@sallyfenney429 on ours you get a letter after 6 months of no activity, then another a month later, then a month after that termination if still no work being done, trouble is I think people just like to tell their mates they've got an allotment but find it too much hard work, sometimes you they give you abuse when your terminating their contract!

    Do you have any drone footage from when you first got the allotment? A birds eye view of the allotment and the progress you've made already would be a lot of fun to see!
    What a fun strawberry tower, and how nice that he saw that you had planted in it already! Seems like there's always someone around there. I just found out today that Norway is one of the least self sufficient countries in the world. One of the main agri-shops is giving away free potatoes and buckets today, all over the country. I usually plant potatoes late April as it's so cold here, but it's an early variety (late june) from my neighbours great grandmother! It's fun to have old heritage potatoes.
    And Jesus, you scared me approaching that pile of plastic with your weed eater! 😂 Looks like you need to bring a chainsaw for the next round. Maybe you should just get a ton of pallets already.. Make those compost bays, and maybe make a ground deck for your breathers? Imagine a pergola covered in hops, grapes, vining tomatoes or purple string beans!
    Awesome to know that you have great ambitions for your Fava beans. Those falafels soundes amazing. I'm sure your wife has some ambitions for the garden as well! How many times have one grown something that yields massive amounts, and then filling up the freezer in no time due to lack of ambition how to prepare it 🤭 If I were you I'd get some herbs in for the pollinators, it's the perfect time to sow thyme, parsley, oregano and coriander. I get so inspired, allotments isn't that big here in Norway, even if I live on an old small farm.
    Can't wait to see the rest!

      Yes I’ve been starting some herb seeds recently as well as some other plants for pollinators. I looove herbs when I cook/make drinks tbf. I use so many sometimes like they’re salad leaves.
      The pergola with all of those plants sounds dreamy 😍

    Have a think about covering large areas with black plastic, leave what you can reasonably expect to bring back into cultivation in the next few weeks and cover the rest, it won't be so overfacing, and when you do get to those areas, it'll be relatively weed free and easier to keep on top of.
