I think anyone else who intends to make a remix of Spark Man needs to listen to this one first. There are so many details and concepts that this version absolutely NAILS and other attempts fail miserably at. Here are a few: - Instrumentation, instrumentation, instrumentation. Using the MMX Soundfont is an easy choice, as is using the overdrive guitar as the intro melody. But once it switches to the main theme, it goes to the trumpet. Big brain move here because it marks a clear change from one phrase to the next. Which is big, because... - OMG THERE'S AN ACTUAL SEGUE FROM THE INTRO TO THE MAIN THEME. There's a clear build up and release of tension as the intro phrase repeats a second time, and then BANG, we're into the next part. So many remixes out there miss this - they just play the opening 8 bars and then move on to the main theme like it's no big deal. It is a big deal! You only hear that intro once! Make it memorable! Don't just slide into the main theme without some sort of transition! And then there's ANOTHER transition to the back half of the theme, when the guitar comes back in. Two clear sections that are demarcated by obvious segues - that's the sign of a nice, tight composition designed to loop endlessly. - Dynamics! Note that line of 16ths that go up and down in the intro. It's clearly there, but it's about half as loud as the guitar and bass. That's good! Not everything has to be full volume! - Less is more! Notice the lack of reverb. Everyone loves to make techno-style remixes of Mega Man in general and Spark Man specifically, and they bring with them all of this spacey echo-y reverb. NO!! STOP THAT!! You're making everything sound muddy and indistinct! Also, STOP PUTTING A STRING TRIAD UNDER THE MAIN MELODY. It doesn't need it! That counter melody, the galloping bass and the simple bass-snare drum line are doing just fine on their own! Little accents and flourishes like we hear in this version (such as the orchestra hits when it does that chromatic climb or the deviations in the bass when it transitions to the back half) go way further than trying to turn the song into a 23-piece symphonic suite. I know I'm ranting here, but I've heard so many subpar versions of the Spark Man theme over the years - which I consider the #1 stage theme in the entire franchise - that I need to stop and make a point of it when I come across a remix that's absolutely PERFECT. Well done.

I'm Gen-z and I got into the Mega man series just recently, around August 2022, and I love it. It's my second favorite video game series because of the challenging difficulty and the awesome music.

Comparing this to the "official" 16-bit rendition of this theme... Choosing is a bit hard, since both are good in their own way. But I'm a bit inclined to this rendition, just a little bit, though...
At this point, I'm amazed you haven't been brought on for (more?) Sonic Mania styled retro-inspired games where it needs to be a classic midi/modtracker soundstyle.

The only problem with this song is it ain't longer. No, really. The main "loop" is like 20 seconds. It's a loop that kicks, but still. It leaves the song feeling incomplete, which sucks because goddamn what a starting point.
