    Now this is railway modelling of the highest level.

    That thing needs to be slowed down about 20x to be realistic. A real car dumper is incredibly slow. 15 to 30 seconds to get the car turned over. That's NOT including time to get it back upright. Other than that it's terrific!

      @NirateGoel 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ah piss off with your realism, it'd get boring to watch it go so slowly.

    I worked on a rotary car dumper. Heyl Patterson. It was exactly like this one. Well done

    This is one of the most bad ass things I've seen modeled. Watch out for derailments! Yikes!

    I'm not into the modern era of model railroading (Transition era is fav to model), but that is pretty darn cool!

    Unfortunately not. There were so many trains running on their two main lines that it was usually 30min or so in-between loading and unloading, and I took this footage towards the end of the day. It was a fairly simple tower. The cars went under it very slowly (scale 2 or 3mph), and the coal was manually released into the cars.

    I'd willingly pay to have one of these constructed---that is awesome!

    Fantastic modeling. Is the dumper a box model, kitbashed, or scratch? Also, if it's your model could you upload a tutorial on how to build, wire, and Op the dumper?

    • @yycrailvideos4537
      @yycrailvideos4537 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      They probably customized the couplers so they can rotate

    • @yycrailvideos4537
      @yycrailvideos4537 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Or they have magnetic couplers so they can couple, and uncouple

      Joshua H. Don't you have to pull the cars apart to uncouple?

  • @HOtrainHobby
    @HOtrainHobby 11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    That is Really amazing, however, due to the cuts, i have to ask. Did it actually work? There is no continuous view of the cars moving and being dumped. Did it work without the operator positioning the cars? If so, this video should be on every HO Railroad magazines front page !

    • @MidnightmoonRR
      @MidnightmoonRR 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      HOtrainHobby considering if you watch the rest of the train when it moves we can safely assume the cars are still quite connected, as the train never backs up to recouple, nor does it appear to be uncoupled from the rest of the cars behind the one being tippled. And so we can also assume they have rotating couplers.

    This is the most awesome thing I have seen. Who makes these?

    • @davenagel4737
      @davenagel4737 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This was custom built by my father Doug Nagel of the Niagara Orleans Model Engineers club in Western New York. He scratch built this over 30 years ago.

      @@davenagel4737 Very impressive; when I worked loading targets at a trapshooting range the crumbs that fell down from the turret would make decent model 'coal' if you picked out a few orange flecks:/

    did you have to stop to unhook the others car first? or does it unhook the other cars automatically before dumping the coal?

      mrk107 it’s been awhile since you commented on this but they might be equipped with rotary couplers. I heard some guys at my club saying they build them for some of their cars

    Why do you have your car mover on the empty side? Every one I have seen has it on the loaded side.

    • @kevin0007
      @kevin0007 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      777fuzzypeach this is a model of the dumper at the Somerset Power Station. Dimensions and details were measured on-site. For a while they had their own dedicated railroad. The guy who built this had custom decals made to match the real ones.
