The Montessori Method of learning is that of none other. . as the Mother of a Strong willed child w energy to spare along w attention deficit, unknowingly at time ADHD. The Montessori sch was most effective for not only my child but for myself as well, our lives were changed in ALL areas. A true Blessing from Above! If you do nothing else at least take a tour of your local Montessori sch. You.. if like myself will be most definitely impressed !

I love that not all the materials in this video are not in "pristine" condition - showing that the materials still work when they are "well-loved" ;)

The Montessori method develops the whole personality of the child. His inner activities are cultivated and protected, and freedom within the framework of organization is taught.

@ragnarok160 In the Montessori school that my kids go to, the teachers are responsible to know when kids are avoiding subjects and find ways to persuade them to pursue the other subjects, often bridging it with something they are interested in. My child loves drawing, but had difficulty getting on with learning to write. The teacher allowed her to use colored markers to start her writing.

@bethserrano69 i came from a montessori school, and let me tell you this, some materials can be made with a simple wood or cardboard, glue and sand.
it's not about the materials, it's about the hands on experience

@ragnarok160, the students are encouraged and expected to work on all "standard" subjects and more, however; once all work is completed and the student wishes to spend the remainder of their time on a subject of their choice, it's acceptable. Also, students layout their "work week" by deciding which subjects they would like to complete first and on what day, however, at the end of the week, all assigments must be complete.

@ragnarok160 It takes great teachers to guide the children. The children can't choose to just sit there and be bored, they have a choice, but the choices are all work in subjects and get to engage in fully absorbing them until they move on to the next. Also, all 'mistakes' are teachable moments and not considered 'bad', so the child gets courage to fail and correct themselves, which is where REAL learning happens. I encourage you to observe a montessori school in your area

although this approach to schooling seems a bit unorthodox to me being that i came from a conventional public school it is interesting. but i am concerned about one thing. if the student only pick subjects that they are interested in and not forced to do then does that not mean that a child will only be as good as the attention that they give to that subject. foe example a child could spend the school year learning about history but never pay any mind to math? so with that responsibly comes

Simple wooden toys are best to let children role play and use their imagination! I'm the mum of a toddler and I was inspired by her to make and sell classic wooden toys to encourage open-ended play - www.etsy.com/ca/shop/LittleForestKids. Montessori toys, puzzles, wooden blocks, peg dolls, toddler gifts, kid's toys, painted wooden dolls, rainbow dolls.

Hahaha and it's right when they say "wider range of experiences."
I really like Montessori education, though... just so everyone knows I'm not just here laughing at what you pointed out.
