    Hello John ! I have been doing aircraft maintenance for American Airlines for 32 years and also followed all your restorations. Your work on these engines is nothing short of miraculous !!!
    Your ability to find/manufacture parts and get technical data to complete your restorations is remarkable. I think few people understands the amount of effort and time it takes to clean, inspect and fit all the parts that make a radial engine. Your engine stands are by themselves a work of art... I could go on and on... You are a gifted professional on this rare branch of maintenance.
    Best regards and keep them coming !!!

    Nice engine! What keeps the high pressure gas from going backwards in the start system when its running?

      Checkvalves in the fittings where the tubes enter the heads

    under the old refectory at the St Lucia UNI were several r very old radial and rotary air craft engines often wondered what happened to them ,recall a 3 cylinder and a 5 cylinder can not recall what the others were know one was marked LE RHONE know they were there in late 50s

    Is all the oil smoke from the oil that leaks out of the very bottom cylinder into the exhaust manifold when the engine stands for a while?
    Could you fit a valve much like those for draining the water and oil sludge from the air tanks on a truck to that very bottom point of the exhaust manifold to clear most of this?
    It's obviously not worn rings or pistons...and a little smoke seems to be de rigeur for every radial aircraft engine.....

      @johnrutherford9937  หลายเดือนก่อน

      There are drains in the inlet tubes but there is no where for the oil to go once it fills the rocker boxes and pushrod tubes except up the valve guides The oil fills the back of the upside down pistons then leaks past the rings into the combustion chambers The manufacturers dont worry bout the oil consumption It is a common cause of hydraulic lock in radials and something we must be aware of prior to starting unfortunately the smoke and oil comes with the design

      Thanks for replying....it explains why most radials smoke like trains at start up......
      Looking forward to seeing the results of more of your hard work....
      Can you get some money back by having those empty starter cartridge casings polished and sell them as souvenirs?

      @@JohnSmith-pl2bk they forced me to sell them for scrap it is illegal to keep used cases larger than rifle cartridges here unless you are a licenced collector But i am a male :)
