Have to say this has been my favourite. I was one of the guys fishing Connaught Waters in the early 80’s Adrian talked about. His dad Fred was a really really lovely guy and was a regular in my local pub The Queen Elizabeth in Chingford. We always spoke about carp and he always mentioned his son Adrian loved fishing and was in a band. I thought he meant some shitty local band, the day Adrian walked in I nearly fell over when I realised who he was. A really down to earth bloke, obviously loves his fishing, great pod cast, credit to Simon 👍
@@patriciamacedo8233 Yeah, I thought Darren's reference to "shitty local bands" was rather offensive. Wonder how great a musician Darren is that he can look down on everybody who isn't Iron Maiden?.....who I happen to think are shit!!
Scorpions, girls school, iron maiden and fishing all in the same podcast who would have believed it! Brilliant. Helping me get over COVID in hospital, thanks guys.
What a pleasure! It's been nearly 30 years I've been a fan of Maiden! Some great music and some incredible shows, shame it couldn't have been a bit longer but there ya go, well done Simon for getting him! What a lovely down to earth guy! Up the Irons \m/
Brilliant, seen maiden 5 times since 1990, love them, so much so they seem to be a part of my growing up. i knew Adrian was into his fishing, what a great, down to earth guy.
Iron Maiden are timeless, you can be of almost any generation and enjoy their music, i'm 31 and regrettably, only started listening to their music 5 years ago. Little tip, you get to the lakes a bit quicker listening to The Trooper & Aces High. Would love to fish that reservoir in Cali!!!! Great guest, an all rounder too, good luck in catching one of those Thames barbel Adrian! Looking forward to reading your book!
Cool interview with Adrian. When I saw Maiden in 85 in Madison, Wisconsin, I went to the hotel near the stadium and walked in there for a bit and saw the members of Accept playing pool, when I left I went out the door and Adrian was coming in and he had his fishing gear with him.
As a Maiden fan since the '90's', I loved seeing a different, much more personal and genuine side of Adrian that I had no idea existed. All I can really think of to say is "Up the fishing!" (hehe). Great interview and thanks for posting it .
Great podcast, l hadn’t realised that Adrian was such an accomplished angler. Being a BCSG member myself, I knew he was on Korda, but never got round to going down there. If you get a chance to see maiden, well worth the ticket. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve seen them from when they used to play at small venues like Hammersmith Odeon. I saw them year before last year they were absolutely blinding at the O2
Having been an Iron Maiden fan for 40 years, I knew Adrian was a keen fisherman and saw his picture in an angling paper back in the 80’s. I loved this interview, it was really interesting to hear Adrian talk about fishing and music.
As someone who's come to this as an Adrian & Maiden fan with no knowledge of the podcast, I can't believe how much the interviewer sounds like Dave Murray!
Adrian is one of them guys who could have had an awesome career just on his own...!!!! I love his spirit and like all the Maiden Guys, absolutely no ego whatsoever.. 🤙🏻😎💥💯
Loved this Pod Cast it was a absolutely killer😉Fishing & Iron Maiden doesn’t get any better than that 🎣🤘yes & i’ve got the T-Shirt & Iron Maiden Rod Mat as well👌👍
Fantastic podcast! Such a cool and down to earth lad - and phenomenal musician and songwriter. Could listen to you both chatting for hours and I ain't even into fishing! ("o)
Great interview & an incredible book. Got this week off work & had plenty of Maiden on for a drive up to Scotland. 🔊🔊 Brought Adrians book & a Mick Brown one for reading. About half way through Adrians, love the 'Jaws' moment mentioned when pike fishing. I get that same buzz 🙂🐟🤘
i really enjoyed it and am very impressed with the knowledge and skill it takes to fish. glad i read it,knew nothing about fishing but i read his book monsters of rivers and rock because he was in maiden.
Loved it, read the book, watched the podcast, don't know much about fishing - even though I worked for a company called Century many moons ago as an composite engineer making Carp rods (and coming from a family that had fishing boats that sailed from Sunderland.) The host is cracking and I'm going back to listen to previous episodes for a podcast study I'm doing!
Not a Maiden fan, but found Adrian's book a great read. Bought it on Kindle, so all the photos in the hard copy weren't there unfortunately. He's caught some serious fish, too.... he provides a special take on how to achieve "work-life balance" through fishing.
Funny enough some of those "isolated tracks" that he references at 27:50 were extracted by me and a buddy of mine haha. It's actually pretty simple Adrian! haha
Cool guy, nice change to other stuff and a different perspective why going fishing and having time away from the rat race is more important than actually catching ten 20's in a session these days.

That’s a lovely story Darren, thanks for sharing.
I am sorry, mate, but there are no " shitty" local bands, that is offensive, but musicians loving to play together, often just for fun.

Brilliant interview, Adrian is such a down to earth guy and was great to listen to his stories.
And this is why I love Maiden. Adrian comes across as just so down to earth with no rock star ego.
Best ever pod cast ever, so famous but so down to earth
Not THAT famous. I bet you xould walk him down your local high street and I'd be surprised if 1 in 1000 people knew who the f"ck he was!!
@@mattiemclean9882 he is more famous than me and you anyway

Adrian comes across far more engaging than some of the biggest names in Angling... Definitely my fav podcast
Best one of these for me Such a down to earth genuine man. Grew up listening to them.

" What an absolute legend this bloke is " soundtrack to my teenage years maiden and fishing!!!!!
Absolutely loved it real down-to-earth guy and also one of my favourite bands first time ever seen them was in 88 at the monsters of Rock 🤘
2024 here and absolutely loved this interview and I’m going to see maiden in September with my son in Melbourne 👍
I enjoyed that immensely. Thanks for posting this superb interview with my favorite guitarist ever, Mr. Adrian "H" Smith!

hollowed be thy name!!!
Would have loved to hear more but the interview repeatedly talking over Adrian while he was answering a question was too friggin' annoying.
"We can wait a bit longer on that' 🤣🤣
Norton disney is one of the best places to go if you want to smash your PB
Do they have 50lbers
If it’s the Norton Disney in Lincolnshire, my dad was stationed there doing his national service in the early fifties, he was a fisherman too.
@@bluesdude1194 😂
Adrian "you know" Smith
Terrible drum machine sounded a bit like U2 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 classic
