A pity such great singing is let down by such poor staging. One of the things about baroque opera is the importance of spectacle. The audience was not expected only to have a feast for the ears but a feast for the eyes also. This is really lacking here. Nonetheless, it is worth it for the singing.
He sings it wonderfully - but as the personification of wisdom Seneca should be an old man. Visually this just does not work - as with all of this performance, beautifully sung as it is.
Very good singing overall, although the roles of Ottone and Nerone should have been sung by male singers, I think. I love Anne Sophie von Otter but she is too feminine for Nerone. Denis Sedov is wonderful as Seneca. Not very nice setting and costumes, though.
This production is all over the fucking place lmao. Half the singers are incredible, and the other half hard to listen to. Sometimes the camera-work and staging work, and then there's the scene where Nerone gives birth while his voice teacher dances in the background.
A lot of people mentioning the staging. Yes, it is horrible. But most of the singers' Italian pronunciation must be the worst thing in this production.
Maravilloso registro, gracias por compartir

It is the first time I listen to this opera. Love it, specially that it is subtitled. Thank you for the upload.
Il basso che interpreta Seneca è molto 👏 bravo

D'accord.
Finally, some time to enjoy music.
The great Claudio.

Not to mention, this is an opera about old Rome. The costume destroyed it for me. I was force to give it a down vote!
Yes, the staging is awful. But the singing is even worse, and it's the most important part. I recommend an old version, like Pritchard's.
This is not a Baroque opera. Monteverdi is a Renaissance composer.
@@scottrose4537 He's literally Baroque
Denis Sedov ! the best Seneca !!

Concordo totalmente
I found this totally ravishing, exquisitely tender. I desire no more beautiful performance, pace the experts.
Denis Sedov!
great singing, poor staging. A pleasure anyhow.

Very, very bad singing. I recommend an older version, like Pritchard's.
Singing Ottone as a mezzo is unhealthy.

Здохнуть із цих "сучасних "прочитань". Перекапустять, гад його морді... Чи нема лахманини задрапіруватись хоч би під епоху Монтеверді...
This performance is very heavily cut. Disgraceful.
Very poor staging.
Oh boy, their singing is so bad...
Yuck, they might as well have played the final act with the hill Billy banjo ringers. Clumsy and gross. What a shame.
