This video is WAYYYY longer than i expected. I thought of condensing it into a fast pace 5-minute video, but in the end, I want to keep it like this as my style of street photography is more chill and a slow pace exercise. But let me know what you think? And let me know what is your favourite photo from this video?
LOVE your t-shirt Richard! As I've mentioned before I also really enjoyed your wide aspect images, very inspiring. It's also a valuable exercise to go through your photos as you have here to see what worked for you or not, although again I really like the style of all of them.
Oh thank you so much Gordon! And if you guys love my t-shirt as well, remember to checkout Gordon's (@cameralabs) channel and you can find a link to buy one if you are lucky!
I enjoy your videos and photos so much! Given all the criticism by a few "undone" characters, I would just like to say that I appreciate your positivity and showing what you created with the S9... speaks more to me than the negativity!
oh thank you for your kind words! But it is true, there really is no terrible camera these days, so our eyes/brains are always more important than the gear
Hello. I am a hobby photographer, recently purchased a Lumix S9. After purchasing the small and cute Lumix S9, I gave up on taking pictures of trains because it doesn't have a mechanical shutter. But! Your train pictures broke my prejudice. They are really great pictures that are not warped! Thank you. 🙌
Rolling shutter does exist but it's not as bad as some people thought. Your Nikon would be better for action shots but s9 is ok for some photos, it really depends on what your shoot and how you shoot, it may be be a real issue at all. Give it a try.
great photo !! but i feel like some of them will be better with black border rather than white border just a hunch. i'm bit skeptical with the rolling shutter but this look great tbh i might want one s9
Yeah i was debating using black or white border. Black would be more cinematic i think! Rolling shutter existing. But it's not as bad as some people say like no mech shutter, can't use for photo. It really depends on what you shoot. For this kind of photos it's not really a problem
I loved this video, but it was maybe a little too long for me. Although the S9 is not a camera I'm very interested in for myself, I bet it is really good for a lot of people that wouldn't touch a "proper" FF camera, and that is a good thing for all of us in the long run. I will never buy a "proper" cinema camera and I bet a lot of cinematographers can't relate to the draw of my hybrid cameras any more than we can fully understand the draw of the S9 to the informal creator crowd. Keep up the good work, Richard.
Thank you Joe! Yes it is really a bit long. But hey you can watch it chunk by chunk :). Yes I think you got the point of this camera. Just like you, my initial thought was, this is definitely not a camera for me. But after using it for a while, i think i may actually use it as my daily or travel camera, instead of my other cameras like A7CR..Leica Q...
Amazon prices (today): S5ii: 1798 (body only) S5iix: 1998 (body only) After 1 year of release... (cost when first announced, s5ii 2200, S5iix 2500) From a "financial" point of view: Sales are not going well... S9 : 1499 !!! Some...are in a hurry because even the 18-40 lens, which was supposed to be the kit lens, for s9, wasn't ready for the "Osaka party." It's not like the "world" was looking forward to the s9. Simply those who are interested in Panasonic products, are people who probably know what they want from a camera and have demands from a company that survives because until now it presented innovative products with a good value for money. The new 26mm lens combined with the s9 is the perfect recipe for... self-destruction.
Your pictures suffer a bit from what I perceive to be the low optical quality of the 26mm lens. IMHO it's really no better, or maybe even worse, than the f5.6/f8 "lens cap" lenses from Chinese manufacturers like 7Artisans, TTArtisans and AstrHori. The Brightin Star 28mm F2.8 pancake even seems to be optically better than the Panasonic 26mm, is even flatter, gathers 8 times more light, has a variable aperture and can be easily adapted to L-mount...
hi px perimenter, thanks for watching and commenting :) yes like what i said in my 26mm review, I would say Lumix S 26mm's image quality is OK... certainly not excellent. I've tested a few pancake/lenscap lenses from Chinese manufacturers, they are fun and cheap, but the image quality is usually flawed in a few areas. For example, the Brightin Star 28mm 2.8 suffer from massive field curvature issue and therefore has terrible corner image quality, has more lens flare than the Lumix and a few other minor issues. I've mentioned them in my review th-cam.com/video/4O4h96wJc_U/w-d-xo.htmlsi=WkdkaJUhTzw4I8HM But one more thing i would say is, those Chinese lenses, especially the Brightin star 28mm feels much better with their solid metal construction. That's something i feel the opposite with the Lumix 26mm. Now you got me interested to go shoot some photos with the Brightin Star when i have some free time :)
10:55 having no EVF is something you can, but shouldn’t have to get used to in this price range. And no mechanical shutter? I’m no Sony fan, but I don’t see the reason to not get a Sony A7iii or A7C instead. As a matter of fact, this is like a crippled A7C or A7iii which was released 4 years ago. Geez.
When I think about it further, Panasonic and Nikon with their Z FC, is trying to catch up to Sony tech and copy Fuji style and film sims without any success. A half hearted attempt IMO.
The closest camera from Sony is ZVE1, also a full frame compact camera without EVF or mech shutter designed for hybrid content creators. ZVE1 is about $400 more than the S9
@@TheRealRichardWong I can understand the appeal for some videographers, but for photography? Go elsewhere. And I don’t know who this camera is targeted to. The more serious (in image quality) content creator will choose the S5, and others will just use iPhones. Such a niche market IMO
Unnecessary camera. Instead of Panasonic releasing a good product that will compete with Sony and Nikon Z8, and investing in the production of a variety of quality lenses (not like the 28-200 F7.1), they are dealing with toys that will have no market. The X/S5ii are also disappointing. Panasonic is hurting its market.. that's why I switched to Sony. thanks richard

Your roasts are still better than many “pro” images. Proving that the photographer is more important than the gear.

Nice photos Richard. Really like that aspect ratio. Hello from the Bay of Islands.
Hey Mark! Thank you for watching!
Great photos, I love that you are able to criticise your own photos. I like #11 and #13. Did Gordon Liang give you that CameraLabs t-shirt ?
Thank you!!! Haha no I bought it myself! I'm always happy to support other great channels!
Nice episode!! Thanks for the ride.
Still don’t find a reason to leave my gx9 with 15mm 1,7 behind.
Interesting format ratio. Thanks!
yes the 15mm 1.7 is awesome, i really want something like that for the L mount, that or the 20mm 1.7 equivalent would be great too

Sorry the only roast i can think of is just the f8 makes the quality like its shot on a phone.
thanks for watching and commenting Cyber Valdez!
@@TheRealRichardWong you have the most informative videos along wirh gordon laing. I swear your s9 video is 🔥🔥🔥
I love the Lumix brand and have always been very satisfied with their products, but a camera like this without an EVF is not for me. Thank you
Yes if you want EVF, this is not the camera for you, hopefully the next camera would be more suitable :)
@@TheRealRichardWong Lumix GX10!!!! 😏
haha lets see!
Finally!! First.
