Fortunately you can still get awesome receivers, turntables and speakers from thrift stores in the $20 range. I still see audio equipment
being put on the street for free as well.

Totally! That said, buyer beware. Most of the audio gear I've bought from thrift stores over the years had one issue or another. Lots of defective gear gets donated to thrift stores. Thanks for the comment! Caveat emptor!

In my town Stockholm you can even lend records and cd (once upon a time even art)
But for me recordstores are more fun....... WOOLFIES was a recordshop with krautrock and there you found Ash Ra Temple, Nektar, 1973?

Record stores are the most fun! Thank you for your comment. I love Ash Ra Tempel and Klaus Schulze! Cheers!

Thanks, Cameron! I really appreciate your support. I’m so glad you’re digging those records. I do my best to bring only things that I would recommend to Whatnot. See you Sunday at 7 PM on Whatnot!

Well said and good thoughts Lance. Its definitely a bit of a hill to climb getting into records in 2024 but it can be done. Best bet is to find an avenue that makes sense for you and dig in. Don't worry about getting the stuff you think you're "supposed" to get. And I like that perhaps you can find a turntable and collection of records from someone who tried recently, but got out of it. Good point there.

Dude....seriously, soon to be 42...? Wow, I thought you were around 30! Great job holding the line!!😮 I agree with your overview on record collecting. I'm 60 and have a Frankensteined system that sounds pretty good. I collect vinyl for the love of music, not to collect. I have well over 6,000 records and have found some pretty awesome finds at thrift stores in th past ( a little harder these days...). I've found og Pink Floyd, Hendrix, Seeds, Serpent Tower, etc..my turntable was picked up at a thrift store for $6.00 (a Technics) and Wharfedale tower speakers, among other components, all at thrift stores. You just need to know what you're looking for and keep up the hunt!! Good video and thanks 😊

Believe it or not, I will be 42 in April! But I still feel the same way about records as I did when I started Permanent Records when i was 24 years old. Age ain't nothin' but a number. If you are patient and you work for it, great records will come to you. Thank you for your kind words and your comment. Cheers!

I like your take on record collecting. Im a online buyer. There's no physical record stores near me in a 75 mile radius. I enjoy your channel. Take care

Forgot to mention you could lend records at local library and owner Wolfgang was from Germany.....

Good call! I used to borrow CDs from my local library back in college and I bought a bunch of amazing Jazz records from my college library when they were downsizing their archives. All for just 25¢! Those were my first Free Jazz purchases vinyl.
