  • So my results were pretty much what I expected "more or less" but I'm glad to see what exactly made up my blood line.
    EDIT:
    1. I never said Puerto Rican was a race. I SAID... just to give you a little background about myself and proceeded to describe my parents with what they identify.

      Sorry, but that is incorrect, since Puerto Rico IS NOT a nation. Puerto Rican"s nationality is American since Puerto Rico is a territory of USA, their ethnicity is Puerto Rican, their race can either be black (African), white (Spaniards), Native American (Taino); however, the majority of Puerto Ricans are of a mixed races

      @@DONNYPESO That is because you guys make everything about race, "the majority"of people from the Caribbean are tri-racial (African, European, Native American) If you were to go to Africa and say that you are African American, they will laugh at you and tell you that are Black American not African American. A white person can be more African American than you are, EXMPLE: A white person born in Africa, but comes to USA and changes citizenship to American, now this white person can say that he/she is African American and you can say that is a lie because it's true. That is why some blacks do not like to be called African American, and they will tell you, "I'm a black man born here in the USA, I've never been in Africa" Now you tell me how confusing is that

      Anglosphere projecting there racial narratives of what Puerto Ricans are. I notice people who make these kind of arguments are usually not of the Puerto Rican diaspora. When someone says they are Puerto Rican they are referring to the bloodline of Puerto Rico. Yes Puerto Rico has a bloodline, in essence the Creole mixture of Spain, the Taino and African. I know its 4 years later, if you read this comment let it stick to your brain next time. Let Puerto Ricans tell it like it is and what they are, not you.

    I'm so proud that in Puerto Rico, we don't have mostly of the time the black and white issues. Of course we have racist people but not the kind of USA have. We grow up with all kind of people, from blue eyes with coffee skin to white skin with black eyes, and asian, european, arabian ( a lot, thanks to Spanish heritage) (I mean the look) and so on. So we are a rainbow and I love that. Sadly, bad things can be like a virus sometimes. D Nyce national geographic states that the average puerto rican is about 60% european, 27% african, and 13% native. Her results are in not that far off. This is based on the average puerto rican. Some might have a higher european and some might have a higher african. The taino ancestry are usually around 10 to 20%. Nothing to do with self identification, just what the data supports.

    • @marce4004
      @marce4004 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Johannes Hügel It isn't baseless. This is what the data supports. The average puerto rican is around 60% european and hence mostly european, but they also have significant indigenous and african ancestry. The cia information is based on what people identify as on a census, not what their genetic make up. Most puerto ricans identify as white, doesn't necessarily reflect their dna. I saw a dominican girl who looked pretty european have only 50% european and over 40% african ancestry and another who looked more african but was less than 30% african and over 60% european.

    I don't get why this is so important. We should all know we mix. Is it going to change anything. In my family we have pale skin blue eyes blond hair wool hair dark skin another part that look Indigenous bronze skin wavy hair and short. Some of us look like we from the middle East. At the end of the day I love them all they my family and we rep P.R. all I can say is a touch of this and that make it better more beautiful.

    It's amazing how strong that African DNA can be lol. As an African American, I thought you were "light skinned" or a a little "mixed" but would have never guessed only 48% African. Those diapora genes are dominant lol. You're pretty sis.

    • @cynthiaholland13
      @cynthiaholland13 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for your feedback Johannes. I was basing this on my understanding of genetics, which traits are most recessive and which are most dominant. This is also related to how old and well established a haplogroup is. The oldest DNA is African as you likely know based on current scientific evidence. Those traits seem to more dominant (dark skin, very curly hair, beautiful wide nostrils) over the traits that developed last in the human population (narrow features, pale skin, straight hair). So that is why it is so evident when you see someone of African descent even when they are heavily miscegenated. What were your results?

    • @cynthiaholland13
      @cynthiaholland13 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh wow, what universities and what is your degree in? I went to the #4 university in the country, perhaps we had classes together. What part do you need help with? That dark hair, dark skin and broad features are dominant and blond hair and blue eyes are recessive? I actually learned that all the way back in high school but if you have never been taught that, it's easy to find. Search recessive vs dominant traits and you will find plenty of biology lessons. Next, you want more information that the DNA from original humans (Africans) is the oldest on the planet. Sure, I can post that for you. Now back to my question, what is your racial background/ make up? How do you feel about it and blackness in general.

    Cool. Lot's of interesting stuff. I did this too. It is interesting but after all the discovery of where you may have originated from is over, life is the same. Do you know what I mean? It doesn't really change anything. At most it is entertaining. But to know where your great great grandparents came from doesn't mean you will ever really know them. You may find out that you are from another part of the world but because you weren't born and raised there, you probably will never truly be from there. You are a descendant but not a native. And the next day you get up and carry on with your life because it's not about where your ancestors came from. It's about where you are now. That's my observation anyhow.

    Thank you for sharing your results with us on this platform. Moving forward to address some of the commentary around in the comments section. I see that many people are ill informed about the oppression that Black, brown, and dark skin people or people face all over the world due to imperialism and colonialism. African-American/Black/Sub-Saharan people are responding to the context of oppression their people endured and from the looks of the comments will continue to do so. They have been marginalized and underrepresented in countries on the North-American continent, the Caribbean, South-America, etc. It is not that they want to lay claim to everyone with some percentage of Black Blood, it is that it has been looked upon as a negative thing and they have been given lesser value as human beings. It was very recent that people with African dna just got count on the census in Mexico, this was within the last five years. It is also very prevalent still for even the mixed pheno-types in many countries to desire children with fairer complexions. Therefore, it is not that people of African descent are trying to call everyone Black, just merely establishing their own human value among fellow Brown and Black people. IT is a blessing to have a rich heritage and for many of us that was stolen, so it is a beautiful thing to hear that others a positively claiming all of their roots, including those from Africa. I am a person of Afro-Caribbean( Trinidadian) and Afro/Spaniard Venezuelan descent, and I have heard first hand stories of how my Latin relatives distinctly identified themselves from Black African people though they to had African heritage.

    The History is Beautiful and the Tainos should always be remembered for ever!! The shameful part of all this is that the Tainos were enslaved, Raped, Tortured and killed by the Spaniard's and of course by Columbus!! He landed in all through out the Caribbean islands such as Cuba and D.R. etc....They were assimilated and diluted through out the years and became what we all now called Puerto Ricans!! My DNA tells me I'm, 71% European ( Spaniard, Italy, Greece, Irish, British, etc..) African 16% and Taino 11%. Most of the Puerto Ricans and Cubans and Dominicans have similar results of course some more then others! A big slap in the face to all the people of P.R. and D.R for having a statue of Columbus on their Island very Shameful!! Even more of a Disgrace that the U.S. named a Federal Holiday after this Genocidal Maniac( Columbus) when they all knew his history and what he had done to the indigenous people of the Islands!! It kills me to see and know that many of the Puerto Ricans don't know or seem to want to know their history because it happened so long ago a little over 525 years

    Puerto Ricans are mostly biracial people of generally three groups: Africans, Europeans and the indigenous people. Some have more have more European DNA, some have more African DNA, some have more indigenous DNA while some are proportion equally. It is ignorant to say that all Puerto Ricans are black or white people. I am from Jamaica, I am as dark skin as it gets,my mother and sisters and brothers are all light skinned, I don't claim to be white but I know that there is some European DNA in me and it shows in my daughter

I remember my grandmother saying that black,people had to use the back door. My thoughts are we mixed years ago. I only have less then 1% black but whatever i am its me and unique to me. Sometimes I feel like we do a disservice by teaching that we come from Spanish ancestry... What I mean, before the trolls come marching in one by one, is that the Spaniards were the first but they then "allowed" other Europeans to settle. Not to mention that was so long ago and we must take into account those who are ancestors chose to marry and what not since then. Our ancestors are those who came before us... that is our grandparents and great grandparents. What I mean it is more responsible to say as Puerto Ricans we have lineages stem from the Native, European and African. That is when things get really interesting because that can mean so much more. Either way... we are a beautiful people that love everything that means us.
