Good job, although it would be useful to have more maps, or maybe to show the same maps more often. Also, I'm not quite clear how this battle shows a "dark side of the Confederate cavalry." But I learned things I didn't know. Good video.
I just love your channel. Thank you so much! I also want to say that I really appreciate the maps on this video. I'm very visual and these helped understand more about the battle Please keep the maps coming!
Going to assume that the title of the video is mere clickbait. While it was very well executed and extremely informative, it left one wondering what the authors actual intentions were. That being said, this was the dying gasps of an army that had been pushed beyond its ability to defend itself. Many factors led to this point, and it was only a matter of time until Lee would have had to surrender. The Confederates put up a brave fight, but the conclusions were already written before that last shot was fired.
By this time confederate soldiers were barefoot, starving, and emaciated. Also short of ammunition and supplies of every kind. Five Forks ultimately came down to an army which had food versus one which did not. This played a key role in morale and the ability and willingness to fight.
1862 many confederate soldiers don't took part in Lee 's Maryland campaign because they had no shoes or were too weak because there was not enough food. But the spirit of the Army of Northern Virginia was very high, higher then the better supplied Union Army. I think, the confederate soldiers at 1865 just realiced that they can't win the war. And there were Letters from Home in South Carolina, Georgia and other states, telling the bad situation theire famalies suffer
dont over think this issue....the south lost, and the whole southern system collapsed....making it impossible to continue fighting....after all Lee surrendered because he was out of resources....and once again, when the political system collapses....should their military surrender....due to having no political system, to protect....
unfortunately the many defeats of the previous months had covered with dust also the minds of the minds of the most brilliant Confederate generals. If Johnston had quickened his step, disappearing from the eyes of the enemy , he would attained Lee in Virginia and the matters would have changed. The slowness of mind caused by the mistrust, which had heaped itself in their minds after the reversals of the previous weeks had not heartened them towards a greater speediness in moves.

Roman numerals, V is 5th Corp
Why do you say V Corps? It's the Fifth Corps!
Pickett's presence or absence had little effect on the campaign. At best he could saved Lee a day or two..

Waterloo for the south
