#KfarMechki (كفر مشكي, meaning leather village) is a small mountain authority in the Rashaya District of the Beqaa Governorate in Lebanon. With an altitude of over 4000 feet, this Christian village is located approximately 50 km from Beirut and lies on the East Mountain Chain of Lebanon. It is known for its unique oak trees and is filled with caves, rock shelters, and ancient temples Nabi Safa.
It has a population of approximately 500 residents, most of whom cultivate their land, which is well known for its grapes and olives.

In 1838, during the Ottoman era, Eli Smith noted the population of Kfar Mechki as being Druze and "Greek" Christians.
In the late 1800s and early 1900s, most of its inhabitants migrated to Ottawa, Canada, including 16 members who were on board the Titanic, of whom only 2 survived.

Although I have never heard of this small village, what great lessons other municipalities and villages/towns can learn from its residents. They produce their own delicious mouneh, plant their fertile lands with various produce like grapes and figs, grow pine trees and export their mouneh, pine nuts, Lebanese Arak to Canada. Most important is their reliance on clean, sustainable, solar energy that generates electricity for the whole village with little or no cost. Each kilowatt-hour (kWh) of solar that is generated will substantially reduce greenhouse gas emissions as well as other dangerous pollutants. It also reduces water consumption and withdrawal. I am so proud of the accomplishment of this small town. A fasinating story emerges from this village that only one Kfarmechki immigrant survived the Titanic while 13 others perished. Thank you Anthony for showing us unknown beautiful places in Lebanon and highlighting stories of Lebanese heroes.

When i saw the title kfermishkeh, i remembered that we had lovely neighbors from this town in Ras Beirut. I still remember them. I was surprised when mr. Youssef said that he spent two years in Ras Beirut. He was our neighbor. I live in canada in montreal and hope to see you someday. Because of you and your family, i always remember kfermeshkeh

معاك حق .. أستغرب جدا .. لما المواطن العربي يشتكي من شح الماء و عدم توفر كهرباء . وهو يستطيع الحصول على الماء والكهرباء بتقنيات حديثة ولا حاجة لخدمة اي حكومة واستغلالها للمواطن
وإرهاقه بالأسعار .
فالتقنيات الحديثة تساعد وتخدم كل الناس في الحصول على الماء والكهرباء .
