    I am on pregabalin for my diabetic neuropathy. I am currently taking 200mg per day and its working quite well at this dose....for now. It does suggest to take it twice a day. But I find the pain less in the morning. So I take 2 50mg at 1pm and another 2 at around 7pm, enough time to make sure they are working before I turn in. I am glad I take it at 1pm. I am off work at 2pm and that way the brain fog doesnt affect my work. Peace all. :-)

    Pregabalin is considered a controlled substance in some US states. After trying many medications and different dosages for my FM pain, 50 mg pregabalin bid gives the best balance of pain control with the fewest side effects.

    So helpful. I just started Lyrica and love the way it has completely taken away my pain. It's been years living with chronic pain. I also recently noticed I've gained weight but hadn't changed my habits. So...now I have to find new ways to combat that weight gain, but now without pain, I can easily exercise.

    Health care workers in the US are reluctant to treat pain. I had a total hip replacement & my surgeon decided pain management wasn't a priority. Instead of treating my post-op pain, recovery was excruciating. This guy, instead of pain medication, decided gabapentin was the only thing for me, which of course wasn't even close. I understand the efficacy of gaba should be an adjunct to real pain medication. Sadly, the medical/nursing folks have a knee-jerk reaction to this "opioid crisis" & do not realize many of us are really hurting & won't become addicts.

      I know,bit is totally ridiculous that you a person cannot get something that really helps.. I would like them to have feel some of what we have to deal with-- I would not want anyone to feel that bad for long* but, it would drive the point home!

    • @therealrobertbirchall
      @therealrobertbirchall 3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Try the UK practitioners are reluctant to prescribe opioid because we have socialised health care and the gutter press go mad about 'junkies getting high on taxpayers money'. So we find our own ways to deal with pain.

    • @adamjhuber
      @adamjhuber 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      As a former cancer patient, I understand what you are saying. In California anyone can smoke weed just for fun, but most doctors REFUSE to treat pain properly with prescription drugs. A LOT of practitioner offices are “narcotic free” meaning even if it is medically necessary, they will not prescribe the medicine you need for pain.

    • @jamesscott1932

      That is directly what happened to me. As a result of the pain and discomfort after total hip replacement I was reluctant to do anything much more active than watch TV and surf the Internet. Without pain relief, I suffered severe muscle atrophy. Now, one year post surgery, I still cannot walk without canes. People don’t realize that when the surgeon does a total hip replacement, they are sawing off one of the largest bones in your body. Medicine of the 2020s has gone a big step backwards.

    I was prescribed lyrica for fibromyalgia I ended up on the highest dose as my body became dependant on it. I went to a pain clinic for 3 weeks they told me that it was no longer working for me. So I dropped down slowly then I suddenly started feeling depression, anxiety and suicidal thoughts so I checked into a rehab. The doctor took me off too quickly he took me down 25mg every other day I went from 275mg to 75mg in less than 2 weeks. I ended up suffering 2 years of hell from withdrawals, I suffered anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts, chills, sweats, loud tinnitus and seizures none I had before that drug. I have been completely off for over 2 years now and I still suffer severe icy chills, loud tinnitus and funny turns. I am hoping that the seizures have stopped as 19 in less than 2 years was enough. Unfortunately many health care professional don't understand withdrawals from lyrica and there is no help for us.

If I can no longer afford to use it all the time, can I take gabapentin or the other one at the same time as cbd oil . In order to make the change as " painlessly " as possible.

    I was on Pregabalin for 9 years. I slowly went from 75mg up to 450mg a day for nerve pain.
    It gave me insomnia, elevated mood/high, disinhibition. I was a nightmare and went to therapy to work out what was wrong.
    Once I finally worked out the Pregabalin was causing me all these issues I stopped it immediately along with mirtazapine. I had terribly bad withdrawals, suicidal and delusional. But I knew it was the withdrawal so hung on in there.
    I sadly lost my job due to the nerve pain that came back. But I have my brain and personality back.
    I've heard some pretty bad stories from other people since stopping Pregabalin.
    It does help nerve pain but ask friends and family to keep an eye out for strange behaviour.

      I'm on Lyrica as well for restless legs. It helped me so much but the weight gain is harsh. I'm 5'0 and had in the beginning (was right after I gave birth) 60kg now I'm almost 80 😭 i reduced my dosage from 500 mg to 150 mg but I'm still gaining weight. I'm also tracking my calories been mostly under 1300cals a day. I'm trying now to get rid off Lyrica completely because the weight gain is not tolerable. I feel handicapped by it, can't move as before, my knees are hurting me, my back pains me. So as much as it helped me i have to stop taking it and maybe just taking it as a emergency medication when it's getting to bad with my legs 🤷🏻‍♀️

    Pregabalin made me hungry all the time and made me gain weight. Also became very inhibited and talkative like I was drunk. Switching to the highest dose of Gabapentin did not increase my appetite and did not cause any weight problems, or make me feel drunk. The only problem is that the Gabapentin takes twice as long to reduce the pain as the Pregabalin, often taking 1 and a half to 2 hours to relieve the pain.

      @lesleysears9808 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am a registered nurse with fibromyalgia and the Pregabalin made me hungry like a wild dog non-stop and caused me to gain weight. I stopped the Pregabalin and changed over to it’s older cousin drug called Gabapentin in the same drug class, and the hunger and weight gain did not happen at all like the Pregabalin. The thing that you need to know is that the Gabapentin is that it takes twice as long to kick in to relieve the pain, about 1 and a half hours to two hours. Also the milligram dosage is higher by about three times the dose compared to the Pregabalin because it is absorbed differently in the small intestine. So for example I take 3600mg. per day which is the maximum recommended per day. I take3 400mg. capsules three times a day. It works as well for my fibromyalgia pain as the Lyrica with none of the weight gain, hunger or feeling like I was drunk. You may have to look up a chart to show to your doctor that compares equivalent dosing comparing the two drugs so he/she is not afraid to prescribe enough. Doctors usually start out on the lowest dose to see if the patient gets relief and tolerance. Doctors usually forget to increase the dose unless the patient asks. I am a 130 pound female and take this dose because it is absorbed differently than the Pregabalin, but they both act very much the same in one’s brain. I was so glad when I switched because I could not tolerate gaining a lot of weight! Good luck, call me if you need to ask any questions 281 507-4742 Lesley Sears RN

    Hello. I was inpatient in a pain clinic for 15 days here in Germany in my hometown, where I was dosed to 2 times 100 mg pregabalin for the first 7 days from initially 2 times 50mg until one day before my discharge. This also worked well for me, because except for tolerable fatigue and drowsiness, my pain has been positively influenced. At home, after three days, however, side neck pain and ear pain were suddenly added only on the right side. Now I don't know if there are other side effects or just the consequences of stretching the lateral neck muscles. I started to reduce 50 mg at once because I also probably had problems with the right mucous gland in the mouth. It's a pity, as it really gave me relief. I hope that I will soon be able to go up to 2 times 75 mg again.

    Good afternoon, dr. Furlan, i have a question.
    I have been taking pregabalin since 2 years for a herniated disk (fused last year). Recently the neurologist doctor advised me to raise the dose to 150 mg twice/day.
    The farmacist said i can also try to take 150 in the morning, but only 75 mg in the evening, because during the night i don't feel any pain anyway. I know pregabalin has a 12 hour time of action, so it makes sense to me.
    I understand you master the way of the functioning of this medication, so i kindly ask you to please tell me if this second option of treatment is advisable or not. Thank you very much, dr Furlan, i appreciate your videos very much! Cristina Roșca, Romania

    Do you have any research to back up that statement that pregabalin is more effective after 3 to 6 months, anything can be addictive, including Lyrica. It should not be controlled though. Neither should low-dose benzodiazepines. as both are significantly less toxic and carcinogenic, then ethanol is I think if you should be able to buy ethanol, you should be able to buy pretty much any schedule 4 compound in the United States.

      Hi @Debbie Matteo
      You seem very frustrated with this drug. I am sorry it didn’t work for you. But spreading lies and fake messages about me does not make you more trustful. Actually it does diminishes the credibility of your message. I have never been paid to say good things about duloxetine. So what you are saying about me is defamatory and arrogant. If you don’t delete or edits your comments it will give an opportunity for people to find out how you are lying.

    What doctors don't tell you is the withdrawal is horrible. So coming off the tablets are very hard to do as the drug is that addictive

    I wanted to know if the dependence of Pregablin the same as dependence on SSRIs and other anti depressant medication ? I am looking to take Pregablin for anxiety. I'll be grateful for your kind response.

      @@DrAndreaFurlan Many thanks for your kind response, Dr.
      I will certainly be talking to my doctor about whether or not I should take Pregabalin. I have been on numerous medications for a very, very long time now and sleeping well and being fresh in the morning has been my life's greatest challenge unfortunately. I am a very light sleeper actually and struggle to sleep well and anxiety exacerbates everything for me. Of course you don't know my complete profile, but would you recommend considering Pregabalin in my a case ? I have read some very positive reviews for it. Will be grateful for your kind response.

    Thank you for this educational video. Pregablin is effective for me at a 50 mg at night as prescribed by my somnologist for multiple micro-arousals during sleep due to RLS. However, there are side effects (dry mouth in the morning and difficulty concentrating) even at this next to the smallest dose available of 25 mg.

    Pregabalin oral capsule is used for long-term treatment. It comes with serious risks if you don't take it as prescribed. If you stop taking the drug suddenly or don't take it at all: Your pain or seizures won't go away or may get worse.
