I am a DM of 30+ years of experience. I love running Decent into Avernus. This advice Comes from experience, but as with all advice, you are welcome to poo-poo it to your hearts content. This is a reading and research intensive module to run. The effort is worth the dividends. There are Two other modules that will greatly increase your understanding of how to run the Baldur's Gate section. This is especially true if you are unfamiliar with the video games or just new to the lore of the Forgotten realms. Check out Arcanum worlds "Hero's of Baldur's Gate" and "Murder in Baldur's Gate" these modules are the direct lead up to the events in "Decent into Avernus". They are early 5e. One of them was Play test material for DnD-Next, and the other has stats for 3.5. 4, and 5e. "Mordenkainin's Tomb of Foes" is essential. You could also familiarize yourself with what happens in the League Play content. Research into the Shield of the hidden lord. This Bad boy goes all the way back to the first addition of DnD. Understanding Who this dude really is and what his motives are can have a massive impact on the game. Don't overlook his importance, but think long and hard about how you want to run "The tenth Lord of the Nine". Absolute last bit of advice. I cannot express how important this is. Tie the characters backstory to a cannon event or NPC in Elturel.
I've been running "Baldur's Gate: Descent into Avernus" for the past five months for a group of five players on Roll20. I'm finding it to be one of the most compelling, engaging, beautifully written, and fun adventures I've ever had the pleasure of running. There are some flaws, that's true, but they can be easily resolved by following the advice of MIke Shea and others. Overall, though, I think this adventure is a remarkable achievement of adventure design and writing. My players and I are thoroughly enjoying it.
I suspect one reason why _Descent into Avernus_ has so many reviews is that it came out right before the start of the pandemic. I bet a lot of people started games in early 2020 and chose to run this adventure because it was pretty new at the time. Just a guess.

Are you planning to continue with a Session 3 video? Here's hoping!
I think there’s a lot of really good stuff in the book. I especially like the Dead Three stuff. But would have enjoyed them in separate books.
