When a judge gives someone a sentence like that for contempt of court they never serve that time. 99.9% of the time the person apologizes the next day and it gets dropped.
You shouldn't have to apologize for using hurtful words (aka Freedom of Speech) in a court, unless you physically try and attack the judge, of course. The courts and its Judges are tax payer funded, so it's absolutely ridiculous that courts are viewed with special privileges. If it's illegal for cops to arrest someone who flips them off or curses at them, then the same logic should apply to the courts and Judges, unless you try and physically attack a Judge, of course. There could also be a special exception if say, someone keeps spamming the word, "fuck you!" real loud, which could be construed as that person being disruptive to the court room and the Judge. However, punishing someone for a one off comment is not only absurd, it's tyrannical.

I've been in front of this judge once he's a Broward county judge that you first appear in front of. When you get arrested you get an intitial preliminary bond until you stand in front of the magistrate if you weren't able to pay the original bond and then reviews what you've been arrested for and then makes a determination if the original bond should be increased and that POS ALWAYS increases your bail. I was arrested for false imprisonment of person because I wouldn't leave the property of the person I had a dispute with which I agree was extremely stupid of me but I was piss assed drunk at the time. So my intitial bond was $2,500 US dollars and when I stood up there he told that what I did was practically kidnapping and me like an idiot told him that if I had kidnapped somebody wouldn't be charged with kidnapping instead of false imprisonment isn't there a big difference between the two. His response was I just raised your bail to $25,000 dollars! This judge is just so corrupt in my honest opinion. After my friend payed the bond because you only have to actually pay 10% the bond and that came out to $2,500. So intially I would have had to pay $250.00 dollars of my intitial bond but because of the increase he gave me I had to stay in way longer so my buddy could come up with the cash. Only after hiring an attorney and months of going to court in front a REAL judge not that bum Hurley did I have my charges reduced from a felony to a second degree criminal mischief which is essentially a petty crime. It's all a scam they increase your bail and if you hire an attorney and don't agree to the prosecutors plea deal they will just keep asking the judge for a continuance and set a court date for a future date just to see how long you can keep paying your attorney while both sides continue to negotiate. My court case went on for a whole year they initially wanted to give me 2 to 3 years in prison and kept saying hell no I won't accept that offer and eventually we settled on me pleading guilty to the misdemeanor charge and six months of released probation with only having to report every other month. So I only had to see the probation officer 3 times. I wish I could've confronted the bond judge Hurley and ask why he thought it was kidnapping but the state prosecutor and the case judge agreed that it was just a minor misdemeanor? It's all a scam that usually affects the poor because if you can't afford to bond out you'll essentially sit in county jail until you can't take it anymore and accept whatever plea. It's all a freaking scam and I'm surprised that Hurley has never been investigated and exposed! That judge is not funny he really is a SOB! He treats you as guilty first when he is not even a trial judge and the only reason he talks to defendants like that is because he's in a secure environment wearing that stupid robe.
