  • Ginny Buckley visits Volkswagen's head office in Volksberg, Germany, where she reports on the most serious issue facing the motoring industry - car pollution. She find out just how much of an importance car manufacturers really places on tackling this problem. A Volkswagen representative tells us how environmental issues is one of their major political orientations within their company, and how they're trying to overcome this challenge. Plus, Ginny takes a look at one of VW's technologies that could have a real positive impact on the environment - the VW Golf CityStromer.

A guy is restoring a VW Golf 2 CityStromer right now, found it written off, but thanks to a VW dealership he got it re-registered.

This is so fascinating. Volkswagen are just incredible, such a forward looking company. I am wondering though how have they put a gearbox in an electric motor? Shouldn't it just be one gear, or is this just old technology for lower powered motors ? I guess theoretically you can have a gearbox mated to an electric motor. I don't know...

She said Volfsberg. She’s correct. Just like it’s not Werner or Ver-ner when spoken.

Seeing this video you realise how little value the company saw in actually selling it. The special products dept certainly wanted to build them and saw potential but the sales dept seemed they couldcareless. There are a round 70 of these out there and one has been given a NissanLeaf motor and Audi Etron batteries and hits the mark, good range and a drive ability thats not going to get out paced by a cyclist.

now this is the only kind of electric car i would buy. not the new, unserviceable crap. of course, battery would need upgrades, but otherwise..
