The file-sharing features on Unify Drive are fantastic for team collaboration. Being able to set permissions and share links quickly has streamlined our workflow
I found the device setup instructions to be adequate and after a bit of time, setup was achieved. There are two ways to connect to the device: (1) using Wi-Fi direct and (2) using a wireless LAN. My experience is this could be a good device for backing up my iPhone or iPad particularly when I am on travel and away from the home network. this device is Wireless NAS best for me ❤
The setup was incredibly easy and the user interface is very intuitive. I can now access my files from anywhere, anytime, thanks to the private cloud feature.
First impressions of this device were really good. The box it comes in is well padded and feels premium. Inside you have the device, power adapter (UK and Europe), an ethernet cable, two little packets of hard drive screws (so you can lock down the hard drives into the drawers straight away) and there was even a cheap screw driver in the box.
The setup is really easy just install the TNAS software on your pc although when i was setting this up i couldent map the drive so i had to map it manually, putting the drives in there caddys is easy although it is weird having to screw from the bottom, if you have a think drive you will need to tip the machine on its back as showed on the video, if you have a smaller drive then there is no need for this

I will start with the good, it is mostly as it says it is. It has a good amount of space for storage, more suitable for an at-home photo/video etc library. It came packaged nicely and was delivered quickly and on time.

put 5 stars for easy to use because once I figured it out its easy. It did take some learning, and trial and error. I love this thing! I'm not a fan of cloud storage, and so when I discovered this technology I wanted to try it out, and I'm glad I did.
I noticed it took a bit to connect the first time, but after that it connects right away. I have to say, I have not ran into any problems. Great product!

With regards to applications, the app store is very small but you do have Plex, Python, a built in Media Server option and Docker (which opens up a world of opportunities).
I got this to put Plex on, so I can put my dvds on but that is just scratching the surface, you can run cctv, home assistant and back up and so much more user interface is easy and found it easy to setup

The unit runs on 12VDC which is a MUST for me. The low PCIe lane of the CPU affect performance on single drive volume but on RAID5 the 10G Ethernet is saturated long before any PCIe bottleneck happens
The only real downside, which has been a topic for many online reviews, is that it only ships with 2 GB of RAM. At this price, and as a replacement for the 220+, this should really have shipped with a total of 4 GB
It works well, is quite easy to configure and use; has excellent compatibility for nearly any way someone might like to use and is manufactured very well.
I am very worried because all the backup storage of my Google photos is full and I need a permanent solution and while searching for a solution I found this, is this a better solution?
We easily share files with other owners of this same device. ie. everyone on your network must have one of these devices (with a drive (Sold separately)) to share files

I would add that setting up a NAS device is not a simple straight forward or one click process/ plug and play, It is a bit convoluted, involving some downloading of files and using them in your process of configuring the device to suit your needs and it goes without saying that you need internet access.
If you need more detailed instructions, the full manual is available for download. I'd say it took me about 5 minutes to hook it up to the network, turn it on, download the software, install it on my PC, and have it up and running.
I've had a number of these drives over the years - mean time to failure has always exceeded the warranty so far. Note to casual users from someone who's been in The Business: Do not use one backup drive
I installed it and went through their set up instructions which were cryptic at best. I got it mostly set up on my own but it would never let me map to a drive, no matter what I did.
I was pretty excited to get it, and upon unboxing it was pretty much what I expected from a basically no-brand Chinese product, medium build quality, it's definitely NOT chintzy but it's not exactly something I'd want to drop either
As someone who values simplicity, reliability, and versatility in data management solutions, I find this NAS to be an excellent choice for streamlining storage and enhancing productivity.
After I got up and running I had consistent transfer speeds from my PC to the NAS at 113Mbps. I migrated all my Plex library onto 1 12tb disk and my backup files onto an 8gb disk. Working great. Time will tell but so far I love it. Would recommend.

If you're willing to tinker a bit, this device is great with TrueNAS or Unraid. I favor TrueNAS here but tested both and Unraid worked perfectly fine on one of the USB 2.0 ports.
Some of the most clever drive trays I've ever dealt with: no tools required and I had this thing loaded up with test drives and serving files in like ten minutes
The hardware is more akin to a full-fledged computer than a NAS appliance, and the performance benefit shows. The DXP4800 Plus has a Pentium processor, 8GB of DDR5, and expansion slots for NVME drives.
Received this and got it setup, currently only have a 256GB SSD in as I don't have my HDDs picked out yet. I plan on using this as a backup to my current NAS as I don't want to have to rip and convert my Blu-rays and DVDs again should my current NAS fail.
The drive comes with the enclosure, a power adapter, network cable, USB A to USB C cable, and instructions. The hardware seems quite good, although the position of the power/access on the side of the enclosure is a little inconvenient 🥰
However, you need to pick up storage to really use it. You can setup different RAID options for redundancy, for my use case I won't be using RAID as it will basically be a backup Jellyfin server.

Compared to the Synology 918+ this is a good machine. Plus, everyone is talking about installing alternate OSes on this and I think after a bit I'll install TrueNAS, something you can not do on any other purpose built NAS I can think of.
The permissions management functionality is really nice. The admin UI in its entirety is a little overengineered (they've tried to make a website look like a full windows 10 desktop!) But works reliably and quickly. Much better than I was expecting.

Getting ready for a long trip overseas I didn't want to bring my whole laptop to back up the days videos. I can transfer from the GoPro to this drive each night with plenty of room to spare.
We're willing to put up with the slow upload time for the comfort of having our computer hard drives available for ease of use. It is also convenient to have files available across our home network.
It is capable of a number of functions which the user decides to employ or not as required so I cannot comment on all of that. However, I feel I would recommend it based on my experience so far.
I didn't necessarily have low expectations going in, but I figured a company that's mainly done chargers and a few docking stations wouldn't produce this strong of a NAS on their first try.
All I really wanted was a basic network storage drive for my home office so I can have that magic "L:" drive or whatever accessible by all my machines on the network can map to for central location storage location for test data, business admin data, personal data, whatever.
This product seemed to be the perfect fit. I've had it out in all kinds of weather, I've dropped it a few times already accidentally and low and behold it's still working absolutely perfect.

There's also a third NVMe slot that you have to mostly disassemble the case to get to. It houses the 128 GB drive that comes with the NAS and has the UGOS by default.
A fun kit to put i to good use as a NAS on your network. Keep in mind the outer SATA ports are compatible with 2.5" drives only, because of this I purchased 2 3.5" for the center SATA ports, and 2 2.5" drives for the outer
This NAS and its instructions baffled me. Never got it to setup right and perform its function. And doesn't work (install) on older Mac (Big Sur). But it also didn't work as expected on an older HP420 Xeon workstation on Win 10 Pro and a new Framework Win 11 Pro Ryzen 9 laptop
For the price the NAS is really good iv also looked into a synology one and found the OS a bit dull one big feature that the synology has over this is being able to record IP cameras but this didn't really matter to me
This product appears to be a great value for the money if it lasts. It can operate wired or wireless. The manual is totally useless. I used a third party site that offered more details on the different modes and the correct way to set up. Aside from the manual this is a good product.
This NAS was easy to setup. So far it's working great. I have had it running for a little over a week now without any problems. If you need a NAS this one is a great choice.

For me, I'm using it solely for local machine backups, so I don't really need a ton of features beyond just a bunch of disk space, but this has a lot more than I expected.

It is there where I started looking around at features and discovered I can plug a usb storage device right into this thing AND easily set up backup jobs from the drive to the storage drive

@@NicoleBennett-g3x Yeah, totally! It’s so annoying when that happens. You think you’ve got everything sorted, and then bam, it’s just not compatible.

Two of the drives, however, would not be recognized and was throwing errors. After moving the drives around to different bays and then swapping trays, it was determined two of the six drives would not work.
While this doesn't work with a Plex Server, you can view the files locally on a device and a tool, such as VLC and such. This is useful for viewing home videos and photos.
The GUI is nice and having spent an hour or so playing with things and familiarizing myself with how the permissions work and how to set up folder shares for my network, it now seems fairly straight forward.
Without installing anything extra you can set this up for a multi-user NAS through which you can assign permissions and roles fairly easily. It has out of the box remote access that you can setup, I will not be using that.
They also accept 2.5" drives. On the bottom there is a removable aluminum plates that exposes 2 M2 slots for 2280 drives and 2 DDR5 SODIMM slots, supporting up to 2x32GB RAM.

Is this the smartest portable SSD, NAS, storage solution for photographers, filmmakers, content creators on the go? The UT2 by UnifyDrive is quite impressive.
I have 2x 4TB Hard Drives on it with RAID 1 (so they mirror each other in case one dies). When I finally got a share up and running, I tried to copy and paste a few hundred GB of videos to the NAS over the network

The unit worked for 3 days and then decided to go back to factory settings. My 24TB of data is not accessible right now and not certain there is a way to recover.

I haven't subsequently tried these drives in another machine, so at this point I don't know if the drives are bad or this NAS is finicky. I will report back later.
It would be incredibly helpful if the UT2 still had a replaceable standard battery so that it could be charged externally and replaced if you need more capacity without having to connect a power bank.
worth it especially when there are NAS for as little as $190. In addition to this, by buying a NAS (not this item), you do not have to worry about drivers and stuff like that; you just insert the HDDS inside the NAS, turn it on and you just follow the instruction on the screen. That's all.
If you're comfortable doing so you can custom build a NAS that will outperform this significantly but isn't likely to be as compact and requires more knowledge and effort.

We're currently uploading our files. The process is definitely slower than if we were transfering onto a normal USB or even google drive, but the amount of comparable storage is incredible.
I was able to achieve over 500MB/s in this configuration with two 2.5G connections active while migrating 20TB of files. I have been very impressed by the ease of setup and the stellar performance of this NAS.
The device creates its own wifi network which I connect to with my iPad. I can also share the password with others traveling with me and they can watch anything in the library, not necessarily the same as what I am watching
There's no ventilation at all in this NVMe/RAM compartment which is unfortunate, so you have to rely on the extremely thick thermal pads provided for any NVMe drives you install or they will easily overheat.
When I setup a Synology account to access it online and saw the interface, it all became clear to me that this was a remote access external hard drive. 👍 It's exactly what I was searching for last month.
This left some important things not done - like switching on the firewall and some of the settings could do with a but more explanation and the user-manual is not great. e.g. with the firewall, the settings have lots of acronyms with no definitions so you have to guess what you may want to block and then it gives you an ominous warning just before you apply the new settings that a mistake can result in you being unable to access the NAS.

I should mention that I haven't yet tried the Docker setup, but I do intend to here soon. In that case, I feel like a RAM upgrade would probably be justified.
It works really well and keeps the Pi nice and cool. I did upgrade to a non stock fan, but that was very easy to do and you can find any number of guides on how to do that online.

The internal drive is mounted with exec so you may place executable files on there for later use inside the root shell

Well it has worked fine for the last 4 weeks without much sound to it at all. Watching movies from it is a breeze and zero glitches.
Does exactly what I bought it for, fan is a little loud.
The UT2’s battery life is good for shorter remote sessions but doesn’t last through long trips
The version control feature in VT2 is highly beneficial. I can track previous versions of a document and revert changes if needed

With regards to applications, the app store is very small but you do have Plex, Python, a built in Media Server option and Docker (which opens up a world of opportunities).
I got this to put Plex on, so I can put my dvds on but that is just scratching the surface, you can run cctv, home assistant and back up and so much more user interface is easy and found it easy to setup

After I got up and running I had consistent transfer speeds from my PC to the NAS at 113Mbps. I migrated all my Plex library onto 1 12tb disk and my backup files onto an 8gb disk. Working great. Time will tell but so far I love it. Would recommend.

If you're willing to tinker a bit, this device is great with TrueNAS or Unraid. I favor TrueNAS here but tested both and Unraid worked perfectly fine on one of the USB 2.0 ports.

However, you need to pick up storage to really use it. You can setup different RAID options for redundancy, for my use case I won't be using RAID as it will basically be a backup Jellyfin server.
Even if you do it, you're on your own for managing the workarounds, which may or may not break as time goes on.

Getting ready for a long trip overseas I didn't want to bring my whole laptop to back up the days videos. I can transfer from the GoPro to this drive each night with plenty of room to spare.
We're willing to put up with the slow upload time for the comfort of having our computer hard drives available for ease of use. It is also convenient to have files available across our home network.
It is capable of a number of functions which the user decides to employ or not as required so I cannot comment on all of that. However, I feel I would recommend it based on my experience so far.

A fun kit to put i to good use as a NAS on your network. Keep in mind the outer SATA ports are compatible with 2.5" drives only, because of this I purchased 2 3.5" for the center SATA ports, and 2 2.5" drives for the outer
This NAS and its instructions baffled me. Never got it to setup right and perform its function. And doesn't work (install) on older Mac (Big Sur). But it also didn't work as expected on an older HP420 Xeon workstation on Win 10 Pro and a new Framework Win 11 Pro Ryzen 9 laptop
For the price the NAS is really good iv also looked into a synology one and found the OS a bit dull one big feature that the synology has over this is being able to record IP cameras but this didn't really matter to me

The GUI is nice and having spent an hour or so playing with things and familiarizing myself with how the permissions work and how to set up folder shares for my network, it now seems fairly straight forward.

Without installing anything extra you can set this up for a multi-user NAS through which you can assign permissions and roles fairly easily. It has out of the box remote access that you can setup, I will not be using that.
They also accept 2.5" drives. On the bottom there is a removable aluminum plates that exposes 2 M2 slots for 2280 drives and 2 DDR5 SODIMM slots, supporting up to 2x32GB RAM.
After a factory reset the default login is "admin" for user name and the password is blank.
It's now set up and functioning as expected, I chose to have remote access and auto backups of my data
The UT2 provide sufficient options for remote file access and management that can help me alot i will definitely go for it soon 😢

It is capable of a number of functions which the user decides to employ or not as required so I cannot comment on all of that. However, I feel I would recommend it based on my experience so far.
A firmware update could help resolve this issue

I have 2x 4TB Hard Drives on it with RAID 1 (so they mirror each other in case one dies). When I finally got a share up and running, I tried to copy and paste a few hundred GB of videos to the NAS over the network

Two of the drives, however, would not be recognized and was throwing errors. After moving the drives around to different bays and then swapping trays, it was determined two of the six drives would not work

I favor TrueNAS here but tested both and Unraid worked perfectly fine on one of the USB 2.0 ports.
I migrated all my Plex library onto 1 12tb disk and my backup files onto an 8gb disk. Working great. Time will tell but so far I love it. Would recommend.
I haven't subsequently tried these drives in another machine, so at this point I don't know if the drives are bad or this NAS is finicky. I will report back later.
No, it’s not as dependable as a home NAS setup. It’s more prone to connectivity issues
It would be incredibly helpful if the UT2 still had a replaceable standard battery so that it could be charged externally and replaced if you need more capacity without having to connect a power bank.
worth it especially when there are NAS for as little as $190. In addition to this, by buying a NAS (not this item), you do not have to worry about drivers and stuff like that; you just insert the HDDS inside the NAS, turn it on and you just follow the instruction on the screen. That's all.
I plan on using this as a backup to my current NAS as I don't want to have to rip and convert my Blu-rays and DVDs again should my current NAS fail.
If you're comfortable doing so you can custom build a NAS that will outperform this significantly but isn't likely to be as compact and requires more knowledge and effort.

We're currently uploading our files. The process is definitely slower than if we were transfering onto a normal USB or even google drive, but the amount of comparable storage is incredible.
I was able to achieve over 500MB/s in this configuration with two 2.5G connections active while migrating 20TB of files. I have been very impressed by the ease of setup and the stellar performance of this NAS.
The device creates its own wifi network which I connect to with my iPad. I can also share the password with others traveling with me and they can watch anything in the library, not necessarily the same as what I am watching
There's no ventilation at all in this NVMe/RAM compartment which is unfortunate, so you have to rely on the extremely thick thermal pads provided for any NVMe drives you install or they will easily overheat.
This is missing things that Synology has like iSCSI targets, etc, but I'm sure all that stuff will come as time and market needs dictates.
When I setup a Synology account to access it online and saw the interface, it all became clear to me that this was a remote access external hard drive. 👍 It's exactly what I was searching for last month.

In summary, while the hardware is good and easy to use, the software issues make it a frustrating experience.
This left some important things not done - like switching on the firewall and some of the settings could do with a but more explanation and the user-manual is not great. e.g. with the firewall, the settings have lots of acronyms with no definitions so you have to guess what you may want to block and then it gives you an ominous warning just before you apply the new settings that a mistake can result in you being unable to access the NAS.

The build quality is excellent, and it's easy to install hard drives. However, I found several issues with the software.
After the device is added, you will have access to the files on the drive via the app.
Need a wired connection to transfer files - does not upload from ipad - the main reason for purchase. Upload from windows is possible
I should mention that I haven't yet tried the Docker setup, but I do intend to here soon. In that case, I feel like a RAM upgrade would probably be justified.
It works really well and keeps the Pi nice and cool. I did upgrade to a non stock fan, but that was very easy to do and you can find any number of guides on how to do that online.
I can’t imagine going back to using a regular external drive after using the UnifyDrive UT2 😊
