  • “The relationship between Farage and Trump is so much stronger than a small spat on the internet.”
The fallout with Elon Musk won’t necessarily cost Nigel Farage his relationship with Trump, says former head of communications for Reform UK, Gawain Towler.

Reform UK still faces multiple issues of importance all at the same time. Many in the UK Elite are ignoring these issues. The result is a fringe which is gaining popularity in the leadership vacuum.
I am an American. I could lovingly call for a UK Revolution. However, Reforming the UK is probably the correct political tone. Here are my suggestions for reforming the UK:
1: Political governance needs to be decentralized into 9 States with control of local governance including local taxing authority on incomes, real estate, and local VAT. Parliament would be the Federal Level. The House Of Lords would become totally non-political. It would focus on philanthropy. Membership, aside from current Members, would be a UK Hall Of Fame. Membership would come from nominations made by the Executive, State Governors, and Sovereign. The Sovereign would Knight Members after confirmation by Parliament. The House of Lords would be located in a Royal Residence with a Museum highlighting its Members. A Senate would physically inhabit the Parliament Building where the House Of Lords previously occupied. There would be 3 Senators from each State. Of these, 2 would be elected by the voters of their State, and 1 would represent the Governor with confirmation of the State Legislature. The goal of these reforms is to decentralize governance while asserting local control. The Australian and Canadian Constitutions are good models, IF the US Bill Of Rights is added.
2: The UK’s Military requirements are far greater than its resources since decolonization. Therefore, a new military organization needs to be created. The UK needs about 250,000 troops for its Army. It has currently about 85,000 full time troops and 25,000 part time Reserve troops. This is about 140,000 shortfall. The Reserve Units need to all become support/logistics Units. Those currently Combat Units should be made into State based National Guard Units, funded by the Federal Government when deployed, on full time status at home, or during monthly weekend training status. Key Leadership could be full time. The difference between Reserve and National Guard Units is activation. Reserve troops can be activated by soldier depending on specialty. National Guard Units must be requested through their State Governor for a whole Unit, at a Command Level no lower than Battalion. Once Federalized, they can be backfilled if not at full strength with non-State soldiers.
All full time soldiers in good stating will get a pension after 20 years of service. The pension will immediately start. Full time soldiers in good standing but with less than 20 years of service, can apply for part time Reserve and National Guard positions. The Reserves and National Guard troops do get a pension after 20 years of service, but it’s not paid out until your 60TH birthday. It is based on points for each day paid in active status.
The UK Navy is different. Its mission space is too great for UK funding to afford. The UK must consider surrendering all islands in the Pacific and Indian Oceans to Australia, the US, or Self Governance. The UK would then focus on the Atlantic Ocean, including the Caribbean and Mediterranean Seas. This will lower its Naval requirements to an affordable level. Smaller, faster ships filled with missiles and drones should be considered. Larger subs should also be considered. Aircraft carriers have to be considered as supplements to Naval Base aircraft. This means threat detection is critical to allowing additional deployment of aircraft to land bases. Every land base should have at least 2 combat ships of Classes determined by threat potential.
3: The UK needs Freedom Of Speech laws to prevent social explosions. Average people need the ability to vent grievances. Their rhetoric cannot be considered hate speech UNLESS there are direct calls for violence. The US Bill Of Rights is a great model.
4: The UK can offer Freedom Of Religion but adhere to only UK common law. Therefore, Jewish and Islamic Courts have ZERO standing if a plaintiff appeals to a UK Court. UK Law Enforcement must follow only UK Law. Under my proposal, States will have the own local Law Enforcement including State Investigation Units like a State level Scotland Yard.
5: Additionally, Reform UK needs to support: housing supply growth, 1ST time mortgage rate reductions for couples, and education loans at the lowest interest rates available to banks. These all promote social mobility. ONLY citizens of the UK will be eligible. Legal resident foreigners and illegal immigrants will NOT be eligible. To work in the UK, all persons must present a UK passport and have validated via a national verification system. Legal residents must be verified separately to match the legal resident database. Employers violating these procedures will suffer punitive fines and/or imprisonment.

Elon Musk’s intemperate view of Farage shows no broad circumspection of British politics. While Musk has the right and option to withdraw support, his whirlwind promises and then yanking the rug out from under Reform shows an injudicious, cavalier approach to the very long-term problems of millions of British citizens.
Financial supporters do not use coercion or intimidation as a basis for continued support. That defines interference in the political process. Financial supporters may curtail future support based on fundamental disagreements on the direction provided by leadership or by a leadership’s inability to implement strategies.

But at no time do non-domestic financial supporters, especially ones that have committed to a significant funding to the party, have the right to demand that a party change leadership, especially without warning and/or without a rational explanation of the demand.
Elon Musk’s pronouncement is hasty, shallow and undeserved. If Elon Musk is to make such a demand, he must make his argument to the people of the party. It is up to them to determine if his arguments contribute to the betterment of the health of the party and the movement.
Money is not the deciding factor. The electorate makes the decision in a free and open democracy.
