I was on their concert three days ago. They mostly new stuff and a few old songs (Mainly from Judgement). There is a difference in the atmosphere of the songs, that is a fact. The old ones carry the spirit of tragedy and sadness. I think that is the reason why more people like their old songs. But I also like their new things, 'cause they bring something bright and ethereal. :)
Still love this song, after more than 15 years. Saw these guys live back in 1999. At the time, I thought it was the best concert ever. Unfortunately, I haven't seen much better since.
The way they perform this song at that moment in time has a lot more power than today, they were totally into it and believe in it. Just like bands Paradise Lost and Katatonia... They lose that "energy". I am not saying that all of their new stuff is not good, i am talking here about the atmosphere and feeling they used to create on the live setting back in those days.
@aphelion007 "Wish they could keep it that way" is just..... a dying wish! Great words! They truly were magicians, and I think Duncan was a big part of that Magic
It was Vincent himself who undertook the growl task , Darren White was the original vocalist for Anathema, but after he left in 1995, Vincent took over the charge. The Silent Enigma was the first album featuring Vincent singing lead vocal. Thought you may wanna know
Yes! And it's also a very special and transitional album for Anathema, when they started slowly shifting from Doom/Death Metal into a more progressive direction. The clean vocals and the growls define really well this ambivalence.
The transformation of the band over the years!! WOW! I feel vincent's voice suits way more with all their progressive albums. Darren white was better at growling. Just an opinion. :) I love anathema. :))
Fucking awesome!!!!!! Absolutely no recent live version of this song (that's been softened) bests this one with the original lineup and the growls! Fuck yeah! \m/\m/\m/
Well from what I know the guy that growls on their songs is Darren White, he left the band in 1995 and this concert is in 1996 so I guess this performance is "growless" because the guy that had to do the growling left the band :) 1 year before this show
This is real anathema... Miss you...
There is such wonderous emotions that could be depicted from all Anathema's albums!'' Nothing is lost, all is transformed.''
Одна з кращих.Супер команда.

I came here slightly late to say you're absolutely right.
işte eski Anathema. Sert riffler, insanı delip geçen vokal, unutulmaz melodiler. Şimdiki gibi vik vik yapmadıkları o güzel günler.
hocam yasiyon mu

For me, Darren did not fit the band at all. Vincent was/is perfect for both their doom metal days and for what they done in recent years.

ecstatic... I couldn't find better word :)
Did the Moonspell performance was during the same period ? (e.g : same fest ?)
yes, it is a different vibe, I actually like it, but in a lesser degree.
are u serious?omg!!!
Or maybe it is closer to what they call "catharsis".
The guitars are painfully out of tune. The vocals... um...
Whatever.
It sucks...
