I finished reading it last night. I reckon that Kafka and Nakata's spirits are somehow connected. It might be that Johny Walker( Mr. Tamura) was killed by Nakata ( Kafka's half spirit) and so Kafka had blood on his shirt. And maybe Nakata becomes Colonel Sanders when he's asleep and helps Hoshino. I'm really puzzled. Hoping for the next episode☺️
I've has this idea that when Nakata killed Johnny Walker the spirit that is JW enters the half of Nakata that is empty. That's why Col. Sanders gets out while Nakata is sleeping and that Nakata can no longer speak to cats.

if i remember correctly nakata wakes up when some nurse accidentally spills blood on him just the same as kafka. maybe blood triggers something? also kafka says ''i feel like i have experienced something like this before'' after he wakes up from unconsciousness with a blood on his shirt. english is not my first language i hope you understand what i was trying to explain :)

Yeah I wonder where Nakatas’s other half is at. Spoiler if reading ahead: when he died it seems as if part of him went into Hoshima, however, he’s other half is still missing and I think it’s in that magical forrest somewhere there. Like the 15 yr old Mrs. Sakei. Another thing I think Johnny Walker, Sanders, and the mysterious cat in the end are all the same. Meaning not evil, not good, beyond good and evil (I guess), and only has will of its own.
Unfortunately, I am not going to continue with the series. Breaking the videos down was spoiling some of my enjoyment for my favourite book. I have left these videos up as a primer to maybe get people started who might be struggling, but I think explaining the story (or my interpretation, at least) loses some of the magic. I don't want people to come up with my interpretation. My favourite part of these videos has been listening to other people's theories. Just remember, when dealing with dream-like stories like this, there is no right and wrong. Much like dreams, you can interpret them how you like. I think having published my own surreal novels, I can see that breaking things down to this level removes some of the chances for people to formulate their own ideas. Just finished the book. Love this series, it is very illuminating. Personally, I see a lot of existentialist themes being central. The question of freedom and determinism: like are we free from our parents genes or are we doomed to do certain actions because of our inherent nature and predisposition. Further existentialist themes are interesting, such as responsibility (when are you responsible and when are you not), as well as death and the finiteness of an absurd existence we ultimately don't understand the meaning of.
I can absolutely see that. That's why I love such high concept books like this, everyone basically reads a completely different story (it's even been different for me throughout this current read through).

Murakami studied theater & film during his college years at Waseda University in Tokyo. I suppose his imaginative writing style with theatrical plot and detailed visual connotations come from such background.

I have a Theory... Just like we see Nakata speaking in third person because he is not himself completely... We also see Kafka speaking from the point of view of the boy named crow.. I suppose that's something that ties Nakata and Kafka more ...
