Is the Sram Eagle GX T-Type Transmission drivetrain good?
It has no advantage over the mechanical groupset and is much more expensive. The X01 and XX SL groupsets are extremely expensive and still don't perform well under a lot of stress in Cross Country racing.
For beginners who don't ride hard the GX will work just fine. Just remember to charge the battery...
It's good that someone with your kind of reach does this episode and has the cohones to say it as it is. I found something similar to my bike, they made diffrent headset diameters so that the cables run trough the stem and the headset .
Those upper cups and lower cups of the headset and stem - put all the cables in a "z" line and they are working less efficent + they cost 5x times more then a normal headset or a simple stem. Aditionally the bearing is not replaceable (its integrated - capsulated) SEEMS LIKE THEY ONLY INVENT PARTS TO GET MORE MONEY OUT OF US.
But it must look cool? With no cables showing? Gotta say I’m not a fan of that type of design,
the cost of replacing a simple headset is around £40-£60 (obvs not a Chris king headset) parts and labour but having to disconnect brake lines and gear cables(if your not wireless) disassemble a Lego like stem assembly just to get to the bearings then reassemble bleed etc yeah keep it,not for me.
I Hope you look after it,don’t be spraying anything near the headset(gt85/wd40,jet wash)and it gives you many a happy miles👍.

@ Exactley. I just payed 150 euros for stupid headset and the press tool - Acros zs56 - total scam …. I can Only find them in Germany … and they obligate me to pay german state taxes and vamal taxes …
Bro I will happily give 150 euros for something Nukeproof, Chris king, a dropper post, a xt casete… but not for a headset from “Acros” - random german company who scams people to pay 5x for something not even decent quality and witch will brake in 1 year anyway & who forces me to cut cables everytime ????!!!!
Pathetic!
Polish it and sell it while it still holds some value, would be my advice,
Some folks don’t realise the cost of running when purchasing the bike, the price of components is crazy, even a 1x ,11-51 cassette, chain and narrow wide ring can cost near or around £500,esp if you have the top kit, never mind the shock service, brake parts and new tyres set up tubeless ££££
Think I’ll keep my 9x3 for a bit longer.👍Atb John 🏴
I'd rather just use XT mechanical
Yep. Further confirmation I made the right choice in sticking with XT.
The best there is for the money
Xt doesn't hold the indexing well, not even close to sram. Too much cage tension
Lifetime Shimano.
@ I didn’t noticed that in my 6-7 years on Shimano. Personally I find Sram far too expensive for what it is really worth
Number one issue with shifting on the transmission is the correct chain length with the correct setup key and correct tension on the derailleur. Sometimes when I remove the rear wheel and the tension gets messed up it will shift like crap. The setup is what controls the b-gap and that is key to clean shifting. Redo the setup, you should not need to do any micro adjustments, that is just a band aid.
Dude ur chain is way too short.
I read the article about the 'slower' on T-type is for the accurate shifting. Idk, I only have SLX and XT.
Not sure how many people have said this already, but because the chain rollers are bigger you cannot test it for wear with a regular drop in chain checker. You need to use one that references “inside to outside” of the rollers.
The park tool cc-4.2 will work
My XX SL shifts flawlessly no matter if you’re doing a full power sprint or race-like shifting. The only scenario that lacks a bit is at really low cadence, other than that, it has not missed a shift since I own it (+1500 km).
My local mechanic have to had his GX T-Type changed under warranty due to poor shifting, so you may have a bad derailleur…
Hi Sickbiker, I have the gx on my Canyon Lux, with the recommended setting of the cage (a/b) and correct chain length
And I can't be more happy about the shifting quality in every situation
More you push more it becomes crispier, even in sprint at roughly 1000w
I think in your case something it's off, maybe some minor issues that causes a bad shifting
Thanks for opinion! Finnaly some one say as is! 👍
User error. You set it up wrong and your chain is too short. You have to use the app to microadjust. Mine works perfectly for over a year.
Something doesn't look right my eagle XO doesn't have that hard offset from 1st gear to the chain ring. I've had zero problems with it too.
I see it the same way!
With shimano you can adjust it without the app.
@ which is exactly why I threw the gx axs off my enduro bike and put a good ol’ XT system on lol.
Same here
Over 2k on mine on a levo and no problems for two years
He set it up wrong
I also bent the cage on it, but the new cage is not a 135euro. It's a cage with a dumper. There is also an option where cage only is sold and it's about 20 bucks.
“Doesn’t solve problems” is a great concise review.
I see plenty of used GX systems for sale, but hardly ever a Deore 6100 group.
I've just learned what SRAM means in Polish :D
when going down a bumpy trail is there any rattling noise on this transmission. with me it does it all the time and drives me crazy
3:41 "The issue with the cables" I don't get it. By the way, using XTR 2x11 mechanical: cheap(er), no chain problems, no need for gigantic cassettes, no noise...
👍 finally a good honest review of a poor yet expensive bit of kit ,no bs here,it just doesn’t work 👍
Bring back the front mech I say but now bike frames aren’t manufactured with a front mech in mind,oh well new bike it is and the loop goes on,
Too many local bike shops closing due to not being able to compete with internet prices.
Support your lbs 👍🏴
This review is so not true) hahahah
@@TechnoCartelyou may have 1 bike with this kit and yeah might work for you but I have to try and fix many of them,I live in Scotland and work in a busy repair shop, these components don’t like our climate,
Happy riding
Atb John 🏴
@ for me it’s work perfect for real..
Happy riding
Excellent review. I think your words summarize it perfectly: "doesn't solve problems". I'm time-frozen on XX1 11 speed even though I will spend $10k on this sport a year if I think I want something.
Shimano Link Glide does the same thing but at a much more sensible price.
Bought a second bike fitted with a almost new Sram Transmission. The shifting was all over the place. Some few adjustments and about 1000km later it's shifts perfectly. Love that under hard load has no issues, definitely is better than the old Sram Axs that i have on another bike
Seems like you've chain length for hardtail with ordinary 1x transmission. There is SRAM manual for chain length together with groupset. You have to let air out of rear shock as a reference point, then start measuring chain for the drivetrain
It looks like your chain is to shoort or wrong instalation of the deraileur
Don't write like that, he knows better. In Poland, there is not a very good opinion about him when it comes to repairs and I am writing about bicycle workshops, just go to any one and ask what they think about SzajBajk (SickBiker)
After spending a week on a rental bike with transmission, I would agree with you. The shifting is different. It is slower than mechanical. So much that it feels like something is wrong. But it works to shift when you are pedaling. You have to shift completely differently. With a mechanical system, you pause ever so slightly when you shift. You can't do that with transmission. You have to keep pedaling and shift. It works great in that condition and is fine. But I did not see how it was "better" than my old XT drivetrain.
I've test rided Eagle X0 transmissions and they needed some load to shift smooth. Probably sensing tooth-plate resistance before shifting to shift at right time.
The problem is that your chain is way too short for Transmission. That arm position at biggest cog is not great.
Sounds like it's all a huge ripoff
I am using mechanical GX on my Commencal Tempo , with a Sram grip shifter , its just perfect , i would never-never use a wireless shift system
I am using the mechanical GX on my Commencal Meta, with a Sram Grip Shifter, and it has been just perfect for the last 4 1/2 years.
I did replace the cable 2 times and the Grip Shifter once.
I love my Commensal & SRAM GX.
Thank you for honest review, which is hard to find these days
Why are they so expensive
For XC, there is no way that i am moving from mechanical XT/XTR. I am considering AXS for gravel though.
What's the climate like in Poland this time of year? Doesn't look that cold out.
Sickbiker is from Zielona Gora south west Poland, climate is mostly mild over there.
Oh weird I thought he was from Slovakia for some reason
I've been saying that it's a gimmick since the beginning. I have a cable xtr on my supercaliber with xtr chain (waxed) paired to xt cassette and it shifts amazing, accurate, and fast. My hightower has axs gx with xx1 chain paired to an xx1 cassette and "it" shifts amazing, accurate, and fast. Knowing when yo shift is a skill set that helps in shifting, that being said it seems they made the transmission for people that haven't learned how to shift efficiently and to help extend the service life. For me I don't like the lag. I also agree with the cheaper Hanger option vs an expensive cage.
Good honest video. Not just bikes but you gotta love the electrification of everything. Its more expensive and it has too many problems.
Ill stick with good old deore and XT on my two bikes. They just work.
Like your point of view! For a casual biker, electronics makes no sense.. my friend could not join a ride because he forgot to charge the derailleur
Is this why most of the winners of XC UCI WCs last season happened to be running Shimano (hence mechanical)? Lol.
I bought an Orbea Wild M11 that came with the new gen axs. Thing is, since its an eBike, they have tis very clever cable that goes to the eBike1s battery. However, the cbale is heavy and what ends up happening is that the connector goes on and off all the time. So the bike more often than not, doesn't shift. Migh be a faulty unit, but it1s hands down the shittiest shifting exp I ever had. The old gen AXS was amazing, it used its own battery. I'm going to test my new AXS with using its own battery, hopefully it will work. Shame I need to take the motor out to remove the wire. Means I have to spend money in a bike shop. Probably 50-70 USD to do thah..
Been using a gx axs with a shimano slx cassete, chain and crank for the last two years. Silent, and always precise.
I have an eagle xo on a analog bike and it's been great zero problems. However every situation is different. I'm not putting out the wattage you are. This is really a bummer to hear. Thanks for the info.
my 2014 shimano xt transmission still work perfectly !!!! also all my shimano parts
My 2017 2x11 has 50000km, still no problem. Just ordinary maintenance.
I got an SLX shifter and derailleur with an XT chain ring and pedal match with XT cassette..i did local XC RACES and GRANFONDO..i never had an issue..works like a charm..shifts smoothly!
Had a Santa Cruz with SX, hated it. Sold the bike and bought a Privateer with SLX, absolutely perfect in every way
Well, SLX is like three tiers better but yeah, SX's are just bad
I have a xx that works great it did take a bit to get it just right With my Reign E2 sag is part of the equation. Also marking the spot on your frame with a permanent marker . so you can see that all three are lined up not just the washer and the derailleur. That tension on the chain has to be right when you set it in the setup gear and not move any of the three things out of alinement while tightening them up. It can be a real bear. Also that way you can see weather they've moved after riding it if you do that. Keep a spare one of the washer setups as that is the sacrificial lamb of the system. Often people don't realize it has done it's job and needs replacing . Mine is the XX so can't say for sure that GX doesn't have issue or that on the bike you set it on just doesn't work as well but I doubt that is the case. As far is it being pricey yes it could stand to be cheaper but it is what is and works well.
My wife's bike is running an old GX Axs for 3,5 years and ran 8.000Km so far. I did just the initial adjustment and nothing more. Workly perfectly.
My bike has XO T-type since July 2023 (3.300Km). Initial adjustments and nothing more. Running great.
I had a similar shifting issues on a SLX drivetrain. I turned out that the freehub bearings have been dislodged. Shifting the cassette towards the frame thus resulting to shifting issues.
O snaps, i saw a lot of you tubers and tons of reviews saying that would be the best upgrade for your bike go get them etc, until someone actually says the true, so I guess thanks man, I will keeping my bulletproof Shimano XT
I own original XX1 AXS and X01 AXS. Love them. Don’t need to fix what’s not broken.
Tell me honestly, you really need any more than 11 gears?
The chain being out of sync with the narrow wide tooth profile at 1:10 is one of the most frustrating things about SRAM's Eagle cassette. On my X01 Eagle cassette (non T-Type) with complete X01 AXS components, it will clunk and slam on the trail in 1st and/or 2nd gear several times per ride as the chain goes from out of sync to in sync.... makes a high end modern day drivetrain feel like a 1980s thumb friction shifting bike. Pathetic SRAM..
I have to disagree. After running 12 speed XTR, mechanical Eagle X01 and AXS XX1 for years, Transmission outperforms them all in nearly every single way. I'm running XX Transmission for a year now on my XC bike and every single shift is flawless no matter how hard you push the system. The slower shifting is no problem for me since you don't have to time shifts like on a traditional system to avoid jumps or wear. Just shift under full load whenever you want and it will shift just nicely.
Balony
Sram is Garbage!
Super expensive for sure. GX chains are 50$! Getting the setup perfect is key for it working properly. This is not easy. Once everything is set up properly it will not shift well in the stand. I often adjust it while out on a test ride. I start at micro adjust 7 and mess with +-2 positions until I get smooth and safe shifts under power. I’ve really loved it for XC racing, but the cost, setup, and defects have really put me off.
Yeah - im really glad i kept my Gen.1 GX AXS RD, the transmission RD is super laggy. In terms of indexing im not having the intermittent issues you are having. One thing about the transmission RD is that it looks bent, even though it isnt.
I got put off sram using nx and gx as the higher spec is over prices, until gearbox bikes are a little more mainstream and come down in price I think I'll be sticking to shimano, they seem more reliable and also a replacement slx derailleur is around $120odd cheaper then a gx or nx. On a hardtail the trails can be a bit rough on derailleurs'
I bought the Chinese wheel top edx ox and it works way better than the same gx axis plus i can put it on any speed transmission. 20,000 shifts per charge and at half the price
Had the old axs dropper and gx drivetrain. In the end while the dropper with max. 170mm wasnt enough for my long legs I would actually use one again if there is a 210mm version. The drivetrain though was so much messing around. Set it up once but had to microadjust a lot, the clutch is lousy.. the mech therefore flaps around and makes noises. And i it breaks you end up with a really expensive derailleur to replace. Even worse on the transmission besides the really slow shifting.
I am back on mechanical, mainly XT and XTR on my lighter trailbike.
very cool bike. total weight?
is your chain the correct length? Looks short. I have sram transmission, my tension pulley isn't pulled nearly that far forward in the low gear
Just to add my experience to the debate - I had a number of issues that needed to be solved before I could really start to enjoy my AXS XO1 transmission... The 2 most important of which were: Makes sure the B-screw is correct at sag. And buy the XO1 Flattop chain. Both made a huge difference. Now my unit is as sweet as a nut for UK mountain biker trails. Would never go back to mechanical shifts now that all is perfectly aligned..
honest review 🎉
thanks for your honest review
Ive had mg gx transmission for 2hrs.. perfect performance so far.
Shifting under full pressure is a modern luxury.
Di2 concept with the batteries in the seatpost is much more interesting, and electronics instead of wireless looks much better, and easier to prepare probably.
There are a lot of bent cages, broken electronics, etc, but tons of people in the comments under other videos are continue saying that UDH is all we wanted.
sram is milking people for money with these wireless transmissions, such a fad..... I use sram 1195 cassette with shimano 11 speed XTR derailleur + shifter and honestly there is nothing better out there
Totally agree. No need to reinvent the wheel.
I really don't shift enough to obsess over it. Where I live, it is mostly pedal up to come down. I shift a few gears on the climb and just a few going down. Are you all XC racers?
Where I live, it is mostly series of short ups and downs, twisty turns, jumps, drops, and rock gardens so my shifter and dropper lever get used quite a bit.
Old axs drivetrain can be had for half the price of the new t type right now, I can afford the new stuff, but paying more for slower shifting, and unproven long term reliability doesn’t sit well with me. And I am not a battery hater, x2 di2 is magic, old axs has been pretty good too from personal experience.
What about shifting under full power?
If I understood him correctly, that did work.
I really like your riding glasses though...
I have the same transmission on my last bike and it works flawlessly for me. The only thing is that it shifts a bit slower, because the shift itself happens only on a specific parts on the cassette itself. However, for my own money, I would prefer Shimano XT. It's very cheap and the performance is top notch.
To adjust the shifter you can use an app. BTW, did you download the app and update the firmware on this thing?
AFAIK there is a big issue with the corrosion, battery contacts just melt in water, so be careful, do not spray water on it.
Yeah, on the GX mech the angle of the battery means that any water that gets in is likely to just sit between the battery and mech body. The pogo pins eventually corrode and fail to make contact with the battery. I just use a bit of PTFE grease on the pins.
Transmission works very well on an ebike. The shift under load is pretty impressive and I think that the slow shifting is a big part of it. Durability has been good. No chain stretch after 1000 miles. I did destroy a jockey cage. The one thing that has me flummoxed is that I have 2 identical XO chains. They shift differently and require inboard/outboard adjustment when I swap chains. Very strange.
How you can do miles in Poland?
Imperial success transcends borders.
Borat will say “great sucess” 🤣🤣🤣
Hope to see the new Shimano Di2 XTR with wireless shifting. ⚡
I need electronic shifting due to fatigue, painful thumb misaligment. I neve know when it will happen, no way to stop it. But there's no perfect system.
Things I hate about Transmission:
Can't micro adjust each gear.
Can't select speeds.
Moving connector pins, that get stuck, let water in. Worst on GX Transmission, due to the angle of the battery, it let's in water easier.
Needing their chain, crankset, bottom bracket, cassette, silly, they could've added a feature in the app to turn this off, so you could use any cassette. The cos tof a complete package is crazy just to upgrade the drive train, but os is having to buy mor parts for jsut compability. The industry has to stop this madness. But I see it's still technically possible to do that, but I forgot the spesifics, but Love MTB did a vid on it.
I asked absolute black if they will make race Face Cinch mount oval Transmission oval, they replied no.
They currently only have Sram mount. So I would need new cranks, BB, whoch I'd absurd, as I already have working setup.
The future:
Sram Transmission mechanical is being tested, I saw spy shots.
It's for Bling-Bling Boys.
Por eso prefiero shimano 😅😅😅😅gran video Daniel saludos desde colombia.
O kurva, mechanical is my way.
Try Wheeltop EDS 12speed
Sram is garbage. When Sram released all the marketing crap for the new electric drivetrain I knew it was going to be junk. I'll stick to mechanical Shimano.
Agree!
Original AXS is solid. Not junk.
@gokkunguru I know people with years of wrench turning experience that would happily disagree with you.
@@joejoeshmoeToo bad. Must be bad luck.
Hav eyou found any decent electronic system?
Wheel top looks like trash ha e a spar battery, no Matchmaker mount.
There was some Chinese brand tha had a system that shifted mechanical Rd, but I read bad things, I forgot the name, an Aliexpress special really.
Sram gx is flawed, but the cheapest solution b that's msot compatible.
Maybe I should contact someone to swap motors in Archer d1x trail. I got the first gen, sadly I didn't get to try the second gen. And the company went out of buisness.
I hope they come back.
As they had great ideas.
But sadly the motor dies in around 1 to 2 years. But if this was solved somehow, I would love to keep using it, but sadly only got one working and if I breaks I'm screwed. As I need something ASAP for my thumb misaligment and fatigue issue. So far SLX shifter for longest mechanical shifting I can get by Shimano, and turning the clutch off is helping. But it's still fatoguing if I do more than 1 minute worth of shifting up and down.
Of course it doesn't work - as soon as you see SRAM on it you know. Ask Bauke Mollema! How these clowns are still in business is a mystery to me.
Sram has manny good products.
Axs mtb line is very good and reliable product
Will I blame you for using American equipment. Overpriced, under developed, and built by the lowest bidder?
American equipment? What part of this junk is made in America...besides the marketing?
@@larryt.atcycleitalia5786Well no surprise anything Made in Us is almost if not the same level with china
I’m sorry but this video is lazy trash. Your criticism on the price of parts and replacements is fair and I agree. However don’t proceed to show us your transmission skipping in the stand then complain about the shift quality in the real world 😂 something is amiss.
This work good only in e-bikes, its perfect for e-bikes..........for analog bikes the old Eagle XX1 its wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy better.

M9100 for the win for MTB - Always! For road always AXS!
This is such a stupid video
Thank you for your well thought out comment
Why mtb riders insist on 1x? Why not use 2x?
2x is not suited for mountainbiking the chains don't stay on. They jump off the front in any rougher stuf. Also bigger front ring hits stuff easier and bends. Just all around bad idea to run 2x for mountainbiking.
1x offers more clearance for the rear tire, The other comment already mentions chain guides.
I'm not MTB racing, but maybe the front derailleur is not as good at shifting under load as the rear one is.
SRAM is unable to make a front mech that works so 1X is their salvation.
@@Raumance Amazingly, plenty of people used to ride MTB with THREE chainrings! I still have one and no, the chain doesn't jump off and no, the front ring doesn't hit stuff and bend. But these days with 11+ cogs in back, 1X gives most people a decent range of gearing with less complexity.
@@Raumance Why not? Its been used in gravel biking on all terrain ?
