- As Jerry Garcia’s lyricist, Robert Hunter wrote some of the most evocative and haunting lyrics for songs that would become Grateful Dead classics. Hunter recently published his songs in a new book called "Box of Rain." In November of 1990, He embarked on a small book tour in the Bay Area. At a book-signing event at Keppler’s Book Store in Menlo Park, California, Hunter casually fielded questions from deadheads about his songs, his origins in Menlo Park, and issues of music censorship. Dead Head TV was on the scene for Hunter’s rare public event.
World Premier of this video. Produced for Dead Head TV but unreleased until now.

The best lyricist and poet on the planet. I'm dying to know what he was thinking when he wrote the tunes. But at the same time I totally understand why he wants everybody to have their own interpretation of them. I agree with that too.
I once handed the lyrics from "Mountains of the Moon" to a friend and then played the the song while she listened. When it was over she asked, "what is this song about?" I said I don't know but it floods my mind with images of medieval clothing, villages, castles, streams, night time, kings, queens and a lot of mystical mystery. What ever Hunter was thinking sent me on my own colorful trip in my head with half finished stories. China Cat is another one full of imagery for me.
