Such a beautiful shade of green on your mossy oak tree in the mist! Yes lots of scruff to embrace around here too now that the leaves have fallen away. But the bonus is the look of the snow all blown onto one side of each tree providing a white outline against a stormy sky. I am happy to look at the greens, browns, russet colours for your extended autumnal season, through your eyes, framed artfully. Also sweet Meg sits as if in an armchair taking in the beauty of nature - she gets that talent from you.
So enjoyed viewing this TH-cam. Such beautiful woodland photographs. And the inclusion of Meg….just heart warming…thank you for sharing - lighted my spirits this morning…sincerely Karen
Another superbly informative video Simon, packing a lot into 12 minutes without it feeling too long. I think the tip about working a small section of woodland at a time, and getting interconnected shots, is really valuable. Also the tip about white balance - even if adjustable in post, it helps with composition to get a better separation of colours and see how they work together and can then be pulled further apart in post if need be. Earlier this autumn I was in shade mode all the time and I don’t think that helped in retrospect. Hats off to Meg, so well behaved (it seems!).
Many thanks Martin! Yes, it's definitely of benefit to be more conscious of white balance in the field. To see the colours change in camera is much more powerful and gives you a very sound starting point in post.
Many put their cameras away after the leaves and ferns turn brown. This video helps your audience to rethink how to leverage less color when looking for interesting creative patterns from the forest. Each season has something to offer and you are helping us open our minds to that reality. Thanks.
Was a little bit behind with the premier but that double slip really made me giggle ... proper comedy moment .. and the typical photographer "oh I've ruined my composition" :) And yes ... we need to get more teeshirts printed "embrace the scruff" I think Lizzie Sheperd would be on board with that one, she is after all one of the top people at making scruff look beautiful .. the image of your favourite oak from that region is beautiful .. but then for me the combination of cool blues and warner rustic appeals so much ... Once again thanks for sharing Simon ... take care ...
Another lovely video of yourself and Meg enjoying time in the woods. I think we can all relate to your slippery start 🙈, thankfully most aren’t caught on camera 😂
Another great video, Simon! You got great pictures again! Good to see that you still have fall colors there, here in Holland we don't have that so much anymore..
I've enjoyed this autumn and your recent videos have been a joy. 'The Woodland Network' is a splendid composition, I can't think how long it took to get just the right viewpoint. I'll also second your comments on processing, they echo what I found with a recent image. However, I've found there is something better than taking a dog with you - taking two!
Nice video! The first part with trying to get into a stable position looks exactly like what I went through in the local woodland yesterday - with the one difference being that you got a good shot in the end and I didn't ;) I still count it as being a nice experience, simply because of being in the woods and enjoying the outdoors..
Sweet mother of misty forests those were some beautiful images!!! Maybe one day I'll be able to go to a place that has that stuff you call fog...don't see it here in sw New Mexico much, lol...we do have lots of sand and spiky things tho....
I have the same problem with the lack of fog here in Southern Utah. But there are other things that are beautiful. And those rare times when we get clouds and fog are even more valuable for the scarcity.
God i need so much to learn your woodland thoughts,,if only i had the power to copy and paste your ideas into my our head and just drift into my local woods. I bet them wood would look so different. Thanks for another great video simon
Simon this is my first experience viewing one of your videos, I’m very impressed. Earlier this morning I listened to two parts of your interview with Alister Benn which was most enjoyable. Also decided to subscribe to your channel as your extremely knowledgeable on your chosen subject matter, hopefully I can gain some insight along the way. I’m envious of your weather conditions, completely different from our Arizona desert.
Fantastic collection of images Simon. “Embrace the scruff” might be my new mantra as I attempt to make something photographic out of the Australian bush 😄
Good to see the falls and crashes and realistic side of being out there with gear and photography. I like the separation @ 7.09 with the river. Meg seems to be enjoying the views hahah
thanks for showing the difficulty of getting stable sometimes in the forest. in the redwoods and in mountain valleys it can be such small trails and nothing even.
Loved the comedy value at the start Simon! Fantastic images throughout and your thought process of putting together your images I find really interesting, we’re heading into summer now so blue skies from now on.
I really enjoyed this video. Some wonderful woodlands photos and Meg always makes me smile. When you say to adjust the white balance (at about 9 minute in), do you mean in camera or in post processing?
Following up on my books from Santa question... Have you read: "the wood from the trees" by Richard Fortey and "Wildwood" by Roger Deakin? Very inspirational
Why is it that when we're slipping or sliding it's never just one slip? Seems like it always ends up being a domino comedy of errors, hah. Beautiful moments of zen and gorgeous shots as ever. Meg definitely has the most photo-perfect way of sitting!
Hi beginner photographer, love your woodland pics. Have a problem getting sharp images with everything in focus. Would love to see where you focus within the image when you give iso, shutter, aperture info.
A question I should have asked during the video Simon. Do you have a particular weather app you like to use? I have recently found "Clear Outside" to be very accurate for fog and mist.
Many images and for me all beautiful.( if possible you are still improving!!)Thank you and a caress to Meg. one technical question : why sometime 100 iso and sometime 200?what make you to decide for one or the other ? are there significant differences ?
Many thanks, Enrico :) Doubling the iso halved the shutter speed which helped to deal with a tiny amount of movement in the leaves. I opted for quite a small aperture for better depth of field in this instance.
Looks a great place simon had same issues down near a river it's not my feet slipping it's the mud sliding away. Might wear me old golf shoes next time it's all good fun bud.
@@arbez101 All I mean is that he should check and see if Adama Gibbs is going to Premiere at the same time so that they don't conflict. Adam has been premiereing for the last 3 or 4 weeks at this same time. That way fans can get to see both and one isn't drawing fans from the other.

I love the way Meg has just learned to sit and enjoy the stillness and absorb the woodland spirit! (As well as tear around like a lunatic).
Lovely to see Meg back in fine form.
Mitico Simon, it is always a pleasure to see your videos.
Much appreciated, Antonio :)

embracing the scruff :-) beautiful set of images, lovely relaxed feel.
As always great video and beautiful images Simon but seeing Meg just makes me happy.
You are so lucky with so many oaktree woodlands. My country has nearly no wild oak trees. Admiring.
I was just thinking the same thing about fog. I guess we just have to find what works for us in the place we are.

Thank you! Twice in a row is unusual for me haha
