  • This is a quick comparison between the 2 sevenstring bridge-pickups "BKP Nailbomb (Alnico)" and "Seymour Duncan Nazgul".
    I worte&recorded guitar and bass by myself with a Kemper Profiling Amp and a Focusrite Scarlet 2i4.
    I used the same profile with the same settings for every guitartrack you're hearing.

    Lead guitar - Nailbomb
    Rythm guitar- Nazgul
    Overall - Nazgul, it just has a really tight snarl in the low end that melts me. Price is solid as well

      @buebue999 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is what I just felt about these 2 Pickups. Nazgul is more clear and good for the chord works, Nailbomb is just a little bit muddy when muted, but has bites that is needed for the lead play.

    I had the Nazgül and Sentient set in a Jackson JS22-7 string I had modded years ago. It’s a very interesting pickup because not only did the Nazgül have a very good sounding midrange, it also had kind of a warm sound to it even whenever you boosted the pickups with an overdrive or a tube screamer. I’ve heard a few mixes with a ceramic Nailbomb in the bridge position and it sounds really tight compared to the Nazgül. the Alnico Nailbomb kind of sounds like an even tighter JB which is really cool, too.

    Both AWESOME pups! Surprised how bright the Nailbombs sounded when comparing to a quite bright Nazgul. 1:03 and 2:56 are SOLO GUITAR parts.

    Did you need to do some adaptation to install passive pickups on the guitar? was it with EMG previously?

    •  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it came with EMGs. You need to replace all the electronics inside the guitar with passive ones before you can use the passive pickups. I did not do this by myself - a guitar store swapped everything. (The EMGs were a bit smaller btw, so they had to carve parts of the wood to make room for my new pick ups!)

    i value the nazgul because it sounds great and is so much cheaper. the bkp definitely has its own voicing happening. it seems like the setting needs a tweak because the bkp gets a little muddy in parts where the nazgul doesnt. both very cool sounding and loved the awesome playing. thanks for the demo. id be curious to hear these compared with the stock pups that loomis came with too

    Haha wow bro you deserve way more than 72 subscribers xD Awesome video man. Kinda thinking of ordering a set of Nailbombs but I'd be pairing it with a mid-value, standard RGA7, nothing special. Should I just work towards buying a brand new higher end guitar altogether or just slap 'em on?

    •  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      thanks :) ...well the nailbombs did a really good job in this guitar especially in comparison to the stock emg707. i guess in your case it depends on serveral things: how well will the new PUs fit your style, how well do they match the guitar your puutting them in etc. so the outcome might be that youre happier with your "pimped" guitar than with a new higher end guitar and save a lot of money. But it can also happen that it all goes wrong (my mayones sounds great with sd nazguls but absolutely horrible with bkp juggernauts...)
      And also keep in mind that a huge upside in buying a new and better guitar is that you might not only find a better sounding instrument but also an instrument that's playability is much better.... For instance I really really like the sound of my schecter and in some scenarios (not that often) I like it better than the sound of my mayones duvell BUT the mayones feels so much nicer and is so much easier to handle...

      +BrownBearMusic hey BBM, could you elaborate on which part of the JL7 do you not enjoy? I'm looking for my first 7 string guitar and the latest JL7 and KM7 resonate with me the most. I have yet to try one in person yet as the nearest guitar store carrying them is quite a distance from me.
      Would you say that the neck is the most uncomfortable part of the guitar? As Jeff has big hands compared to me. (5'7).
      My current guitar is a MIJ strat, and the action feels high as compared to a Apex2 Ibanez. Does the JL7 also feels relatively "high action-ed"?

    •  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Kian How Tan the part of the JL7 I like the least is the scale length altough this guitar only has 26,5" (which isn't a lot compared to other 7stringguitars). I acutally like bigger necks a lot so the thickness of the JL's neck isnt an issue for me at least ;D (And I believe that the newer versions of the JL have thinner necks anyways? - but I'm not entirely sure about that)
      I also kinda dislike the fact that it has a floyd rose, but there are also versions without the FR out there
      The action on my JL7 is pretty low ;)
      Just In case you're refering to my comparison of the mayones and the schecter concering playability and feel (I wrote that a couple posts above this one): That doesnt mean that the schecter is bad or doesnt feel good but the mayones is just a guitar from another planet in that matter (and it also costs twice as much - so it would sad if it weren't any better than the JL7)

    Nice comparison/tones man. I got the recent JL7 model (well not recent for long...) anyways the 2014 one had i think swamp ash, or at least the other kind of ash vs yours. would you think the tonal differences between these two pup sets would be the same? they both sound sick but the 2014 jl7 is so much brighter than the original model. Assuming tone woods do make a difference you think itd make more sense to go with the nailbomb? running through a pod hd pro x btw, cant afford kemper yet :,(

    •  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +aynsleyj218 I don't know since I dont have the swamp ash version. What always helps when you consider to buy something from BKP is to ask them. Write them an email and tell them what sound you want to have and they'll help you :) I did that with the nailbombs for my JL as well and they nailed it ;)

    So, "@UCsugCS8EOpdfIZV7r7vpinQ", which one do YOU like more? ALso...which one is more agressive? I am listening to this on a laptop, can't hear much difference, or maybe the problem is in my ears. :)

  • @x7stringinJSCx
    @x7stringinJSCx 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    So which one would you choose for the bridge? I like both. They sound so close but the Nazgul sounded clear in the mids and treble but kind of muddy.. yet tight with the real low end. The Nailbomb kind of sounded the same thru the whole range. My style isn't detuned metal stuff but at least i know i can do it with both of these lol. I do more 70s, 80s and 90s rock stuff.

    •  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'd go for the Nailbomb then, because in my opinion it has slightly more "character" than the nazgul especially when you play leads or a clean part.

      Joshua Martiniano I emailed the guys at bkp with the specs of my gear, described them what guitartone I was looking for and what my tone was lacking and asked them kindly if they could help me. They mailed a few suggestions back and they suggested the alcino version specifically if I recall correctly.

    Great video! I have the same guitar (the older jl-7) and I´m thinking of getting a new bridge pickup for djent/keith merrow style playing and pretty much the same style you are playing in this video. Which on ewould you recommend? Also, I´m having a problem with the tune-o-matic bridge because it is creating a lot of "chirpy" sounds when chugging. Damn it's hard to get anything recorded with this thing :/

    •  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mika Tarkela I'd totally go for the ceramic Nailbomb (and that's what the guys at BKP recomended for my guitar) because it gives your tone clarity and chunkyness at the same time :) (In my Opinion the Nazgul lacks clarity and sounds a little artificial on that guitar in comparison) But I guess thats just a matter of taste. I also had a Dimarzio Evolution 7 in that guitar a while ago, which sounded awesome but not "heavy" enough for my taste
      I have a floyd rose bridge which also made recording a little difficult but I cut some sponges in half and stuffed them underneath the springs in my trem ;)

    • @MikaTarkela
      @MikaTarkela 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the reply! I´m going to do some more research on the BKP pickups. I know they are killer but they´re also pretty expensive hahah =)

    • @MikaTarkela
      @MikaTarkela 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** BTW should I get the calibrated version and how is it different compared to "normal"? I read their explanation but didn´t really understand it that well.. I guess the "open" model is right one for the JL-7?
      I also realized that I´m going to have to switch the neck pickup also because the current ones are active and the nailbomb is going to be a passive pickup.
      Sorry for being such a noob :)

    •  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mika Tarkela well the calibrated set is what you want to go for in that case. what they do is they make sure neck and bridge pickup fit to each other.
      Which set you want to go for depends. I guess you need the soapbar-style BKP pickups, which should be available... the best way ist just asking them via email what you need - i ordered the wrong size and had to bring my guitar to a luthier to make them fit into my guitar

    • @MikaTarkela

    Hey man this is such a killer song. I was wondering in your honest opinion. For this style of music and a versatile pickup in general would you recommend the nazgul or the nailbomb. I cant decide between the 2 and I know between youtube compression and what not I'm not getting the whole picture. Great riffs.

    •  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! Both pus are spectacular Pickups, but it totally depends on the Guitar. In my Mayones duvell for example the Nailbombs dont sound very Good and the nazguls really shine. In the schecter i prefer the nailbombs.
      But I can tell you the following: the nailbombs have an amazing clarity and handle all kinds of high gain really really well, which the nazguls seem to have a bit less, which sometimes bugs me a tiny bit when I am playing around with big open chords.
      A good thing to do is mail the guys from bareknuckle pickups and Tell them what your Guitar is and what specifications (Wood, Construction type and so on) and what sound you‘re striving for. They were a huge help for me and recommended the nailbomb for my schecter

    • @InfamouslyCantankerous
      @InfamouslyCantankerous 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ok great idea man. I'm actually looking to swap out my fishman fluence moderns in my Schecter sls elite it's a swamp ash guitar for either the nailbomb or nazgul. I also have another schecter 6 six string apocalypse which is swamp ash and looking at pickups for that. I think my schecter 7 string I'm gonna change to the Fishman abasi so just have to figure out the 2 6 string guitars which both happen to be swamp ash. I believe your duvell and schecter are both mahogany right?

    •  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The guitar looked really strange with the Seymour Duncans without the pickup covers, so decided to take the BKP pickup covers and put them on top of the Seymour duncans. Here's everything in more detail:
      I recorded everything with the bareknuckles including the Video. Afterwards I changed Pickups. I also changed the pickupcovers. So underneath those silber pickup covers (made by bareknuckle) I installed the Seymour Duncans. Afterwards I recorded everything again.
      I know it might be confusing...
