I absolutely LOVE the fact that you not only thought to buy your son a new binder for his cards, but took the time to understand why it might be worthwhile doing so, and checking with him first. Thank you for sharing these cards and videos with us too! ☺
This was so nostalgic. This is my era of Pokémon. I recall slapping a rubber band around these and carrying them in my pocket all day or just throwing them loose into my backpack. So cool to see the collection well cared for.
Many collectors love the artists behind the cards, myself included. Some people even collect and organize based on artist rather than set. Those vintage cards are my childhood. If you like the original 151, the modern scarlet and violet 151 is an amazing set to collect and look at as well.
And by the way the first card is decently valuable, every base set machamp is first edition because of the way they were printed and advertised, but yeah mostly anything first edition you’ll want to put in that vaultx binder. I’ll try to leave helpful tips like this as I keep going through the videos just in case you don’t already know. And the symbol to the right of the first edition symbol is the set symbol. There weren’t any symbols on most of these cards because they’re in base set. The first printed set of pokemon cards, and the cards with the first edition stamps were the first prints of that first set, there are some very valuable cards to be found there.
For example at 30:32 it says promo on the right side of the card right under the art, that tells you it was sold in some sort of promotion instead of an official set. And at 35:32 you can see a little hand fossil looking thing, those cards are in the fossil set.
Just got a 1st edition Machamp Today aswell I actually got like 15 🤣 aswell as a major supply of Mega Gx Ex Vstar Cards worth hundreds 🤣 I added up a couple of they were psa 10s and it’s amount too 2 grand for o to like 10 of em there was like 100 of em 🤣
You remembered correctly, the main Pikachu in the show did refuse to evolve. Each kind of Pokemon is an entire species, so other Pikachu do evolve and in most of the video games you can evolve any Pikachu you catch.
Hi! Enjoy the videos! Those colored circles are types of energy. Fire-Red, Water-Blue, Leaf-Green, Lightning-Yellow, Fighting-the red with the fist, Psychic-Purple, Colorless-the white/grey stars. Correspondence with the element of each individual Pokémon. You can check the rarity of each card by the very bottom right corner. Common cards will have a black circle, Uncommon cards will have a black diamond, and the rare cards will have a black star. Just a little more info to help your knowledge base. It’s cool to see the nostalgia from the Base sets of Pokémon!
Because of how they were distributed, all machamps from the base set are first edition. They never had the unlimited print and are the most common holographic card from base set from what I know. I think they did not come in booster packs but in decks so you bought one and already knew it had the machamp in it. Still a nice card and has some value but usually not worth grading unless in mint or pristine condition.
Yes, they came from the starter deck and could not be pulled from a booster. The so-called 'shadowless' print run of Machamp is certainly the one to look for. All are holographic and first edition except for the very rare variant from Trainer Deck A that was only given to certain game stores for play, not to be sold.
I feel like, i would enjoy spending hours with you showing you pokemon cards and talking about them. You make me feel so at peace when I watch your videos ❤ I adore these. I can tell you were (and are) a cool and very loving mother. Adding this video to my favorites !!
Usually Pokémon cards are really weird with pricing especially with vintage cards to get the most value out of a card you’d have to send them off to be graded they can be in perfect condition but the cards print could be slightly crooked or a line could be off and that could make the card less valuable Edit: I looked up that pikachu promo card for the first movie and it looks like graded psa 10s go for around $380
Mitsuhiro Arita is very popular in the community. He's always been my favorite artist, but it would seem he doesn't do much illustrating for them anymore. I hardly ever see his work on new releases. It's going on thirty years now, so it's understandable. A few of the cards at the start are c1999-2000 and are from the less common fourth print of Base Set. I've heard before they saw distribution in England, but I'm sure there was plenty in the U.S. If you notice the Vulpix has a misprint of 'HP 50'. All of them were like that until they were corrected in the fourth print run. For these being the classics, I think Wizards of the Coast really did a terrible job with them. There's many different misprints in these original sets, many that were never corrected.
the video looks great but if it keeps concerning you maybe you could try looking into getting a polarizing filter for your camera lens! It could help getting rid of the reflection glares and dim any other harsh lights :)
Yes! Magnifying glass, sister! I have one too… and I am not ashamed. Love your style of content. It sounds like my intelligent friend who I go to for great information.🎉
I have a couple of Lego videos posted. Putting together a Bonsai Tree and disassembling a Lego bouquet. I’m posting another one disassembling soon! Thanks for watching!
Hilarious that she knew Ash was Pikachu's trainer and he didn't let him evolve! I don't know too much about Pokémon these days, but I loved it as a kid. Magic the Gathering is the best card game though, come at me 😉
The second Bulbasaur, like the Charmander, is a 4th print Base Set card. You can tell as it states 1999-2000. These are slightly more valuable than the Base Set Unlimited.
The magician Uri Geller actually sued Pokemon over using his likeness for kadabra , the Japanese name is similar to geller as well, so there wasnt any more of that card printed after the first 1 or 2 sets for 20 years until he allowed them too again
Just a Side Note: "Double-Sleeved" on your new binder in this Case does NOT mean "normal sleeve + toploader (the thick plastic sleeve of some of the cards)"!!! There are Special "Inner sleeves", that fit INSIDE of the regular sleeves (the sleeves that are roughly the sitze of the cards themselves). Therefore you would either need Inner sleeves to still have a Double layer of Protection for the cards that are now in regular sleeves + toploader or you would have to Talk to your son, if its ok that the cards then would only have a single sleeve Protection. :)
Great video, so much nostalgia for me. I remember collecting all the first 151 in the late 90’s. Also, and I hate to be that guy, but you switched up the symbols for male and female.
this reminds me of me and my younger brothers pokemon card phase as kids + my moshi monster cards i have all collected in a binder like this, think i still have them somewhere
Hey I'm back with another valuation comment! So unfortunately its unlikely any of these would be worth anything. The original set is quite popular with collectors for obvious reasons - but unless the cards are in immaculate pristine condition they wouldn't be worth too much due to the fact that these collectors want them in better condition than other collectors have. Cards graded at a perfect 10 are worth a lot, but outside of that it's not too much. Your other binder actually had some more valuable cards because they were from sets with lower total numbers of cards printed! Also as far as the artists go, I'm fairly certain Ken Sugimori still makes the artwork today - he's the official designer of the pokemon artwork. The original designs all come from him, then a lot of the card artworks are made by other artists. But if you see his design its the "official" artwork!
(I would use any of the protectors you bought on cards that are already in the best condition, not necessarily 1st editions, because it will preserve them that way better and maintain their quality)
