The first Gangstarr record I ever heard was ‘Code of The Streets’ back in 1994 and I’ve been a fan ever since. I bought every album Gangstarr ever released including the Greatest Hits double album. I had the honour of meeting the legendary Premo in London, back in the Summer of 2003 and he was gracious enough to allow me take a photograph with him after he asked me for directions to the nearest sneaker store. To hear the Immortal MC Guru and DJ Premier in 2019 as a long-standing Gangstarr Foundation supporter brings tears to my eyes. Salute to Cole for paying homage. Real Hip Hop 💯
Ethan No bro, though I spent many a weekend listening to Tim Westwood, recording his shows onto cassette tapes that I still have to his day. I met Premo back in the Summer of 2003. I was in an area of London called Angel for a conference and after went to go get some food from the one of the local restaurants . He was just there on the busy street, talking into his phone and walked up to me and to ask for directions. At first I didn’t recognise him because he wasn’t wearing his usual fitted hat but as soon as he spoke and I heard the his raspy familiar East Coast accent I knew it was the world famous producer for Biggie, Nas, Jay-Z, Group Home and the list goes on. I can say without shame that I fanned out. Angel wasn’t as culturally diverse an area back then so I think because I was wearing a Yankee fitted at the time, Premo recognised I was from the culture which probably made him comfortable enough to ask a complete stranger where the nearest sneaker store was. I directed him to the local Footlocker and JD Sports store and the humbly asked for a picture to which he replied “No Question!”. It was truly an honourable moment. I’ve now put the picture up as my profile pic here. One of my favourite Hip Hop memories. Salute the Gangstarr Foundation and RIP Gifted Unlimited Rhymes Universal aka GURU 💯

This is already a classic. Much respect Guru, Preme and Cole. I’ve been getting roasted for liking Cole on this track, older hip hop heads saying they’re only here for Guru and I get that. Preme himself wanted a younger artist on it, he said either Drake Kendrick or Cole and he said Cole fit the best. Cole is one of the realest in the game right now, I’m a “hip hop head” myself but I don’t see how you can’t appreciate Kendrick and Cole just because they’re younger.
All 3 of them earned my respect way before they got popular. I'm thankful for them keeping it alive now my ogs are back to help. Not the biggest fan of the latest but nevertheless the less I'm still a fan i don't just drop em like others do

People be like ”I wish Hip Hop was like the 90s” but they just say that to sound cool or someth.. guess what, THIS IS IT, this is what you call ”Real Hip Hop”, if you dig deep enough you will find it

RIP Guru! You will always be remembered! DJ Premiere, Thank you for your INCREDIBLE beats!
DwayneSummers was it on Tim Westwood show by any chance?
DwayneSummers love that mate
R.I.P. Guru. Definitely one of the greatest lyricist to ever pickup a mic.
It’s the voice, the wisdom, the knowledge.. He really was one of a kind.. God Bless his spirit :)
I knew J Cole was great but I’m even more impressed after hearing him spit like this on a premier Beat. 💯
RIP Guru
He is a hip-hop MC

@hafizul faizal are you fucking insane? J cole is a beast but dont fucking mix and match two fucking separate eras like that. Premier is in his own league and deserves much more respect than what are you offering

Can't agree with you more.
stevielikesdick yeah utmost respect for younger catz for recognising and representing a legend G.U.R.U that's peace
All 3 of them earned my respect way before they got popular. I'm thankful for them keeping it alive now my ogs are back to help.
Not the biggest fan of the latest but nevertheless the less I'm still a fan i don't just drop em like others do
Cole n kendrick are good but joey badass would have been good too.
@@ericdemby4644 Joey has always been like the black sheep amongst them. I believe he can out rhyme them but one thing he lacks is swag which i don't care about but everyone I've tried to push joey onto just doesn't vibe with them.
I don't know if it's he's too lyrical or his islander like voice that does it.
All-Amerikkkan-Bada$$ album was my favorite! Wish people would of listen to that!

@Pablo C so true, Gangstarr has many classics and bangers, I was listening to weed scented, you heard it? It's so sick 🔥
Love how Cole’s verse dropped in the middle of the song. He’s such a middle child.
Joel Varela from 21 savage to gangstarr. Respecting both generations of hip hop and bridging both sides together. That’s what makes a middle child

Growing up in Houston, I eventually would find my way to the sounds of DJ Premier. Heard his collabs with Nas, Rakim, Jay-Z, etc., but I regret not coming across Guru and Gang Starr work until after Guru passed. Dude was indeed gifted. It just made me miss real hip-hop even more.

The raw lyricism of J Cole, you can thank Guru for that. His influence is forever.
I met Guru twice and he was as real as everything you've imagined he was 💯
Met him in Boston one time at a club. I humbly said hello to him from across the room and told him i had bought doubles of Jazzmatazz. He came up to me, asked me my name, and gave me a pound and a hug. Will never forget that day.
lucky you man!
Met him in Austin Texas, not long before he passes...Humble as hell. Took a picture...left the L in the car...that would've been a dream to light one with him...Nevertheless an experience I can remember like yesterday and will never forget!
you are so lucky
I got the chills. Them diamonds Guru and Cole too cold for the game.

People be like ”I wish Hip Hop was like the 90s” but they just say that to sound cool or someth.. guess what, THIS IS IT, this is what you call ”Real Hip Hop”, if you dig deep enough you will find it
Hussein Ibraheem u don’t need to dig that deep
Ok boomer
Not everyone saying that is fronting
Rob Banks I agree with you, but my comment had more to do with people who claim they want ”real hip hop” but they don’t want to listen to it or show it love. They just chat shit. Reminds me of Kendricks verse where he said ”Critics want to mention that they miss when hip-hop was rappin'
Motherfucker, if you did, then Killer Mike'd be platinum”
Absolutely 💯🎯🎯
Legendary track
“Like respect in the hood, it cant be bought”
