In the 80s, I saw her live numerous times. She was a great singer, but she could put on a dynamic show. She was a beautiful woman and episized her beautiful body but with humor. I never heard anyone like Shirley Bassey. She was one of the best vocalists of all time.
Dame Shirley visited the Royal Mint a few weeks ago, they've minted some special coins with Dame Shirley one side and our King who's she's known for many years on the other. Only a few groups and singers have had this honour, this celebrates Dame Shirley 70 years in the business
She is the only singer who actually acts out her songs, in my opinion the greatest performer ever, with a strong work ethic, a sense of humour ,and real class. As for songs the list is endless, Never Never, I who have nothing, I am what I am, If you go away, What now my love, Something to name just a few not including her Bond themes. She is a true living legend.
I have loved Shirley Bassey since I first saw her in London when I was a child. She had her own shows on British TV in the 60's. She sang the theme of three Bond films. Choose any song on the net and you won't be disappointed. Watch out, though, once she captures you she captures for ever!
I have been a fan of Dame Shirley Bassey since I was about ten years old. That was 1972! In my opinion, she is the very best of all the divas. She is now in her 80s and her voice is still very strong. I'm so glad you've discovered her.
Check out I who have nothing !!!! Shirley was born in the Welsh capital Cardiff in a poor area called Tiger Bay in the dock lands. She’s phenomenal and still with us !!! I saw her live in 1986 . Amazing stage presence. My late husband was a huge fan. No one can knock out a big ballad like our Shirley 🏴🏴🏴🏴🥰
Yes, she is. Dame Shirley told a story of how when she was growing up in music class her teacher told her to stand in the corridor as her voice was too powerful in the music class next to her classmates.
She is not only a Dame of the British Empire, France awarded her the French Legion of Honour. I associate My Way with Frank Sinatra, i would have suggested This is My Life ( La Vita) for first time listening. What puts her apart from other divas is her absolute passion, class and elegance. I do love her version of My Way though.
Dame Shirley Bassey has been an international star for almost 70 years and her voice is almost as powerful now as it was when she began her career as a teanager. A great Welsh singer and a class act.
That is SUCH a hilarious first song to hear by her, cause it's a song that encourages singers to be quite subdued and conversational, which really does not prepare you for her sheer power
The brilliant Shirley Bassey ❤ ... check out This is my life, Never never never, As I love you, Reach for the stars....a huge rabbit hole to go down....amazing 😍
It's never too late to discover Shirl the girl, and by the way, she is Welsh, not English. Check out her version of I am what i am. She has lead a hell of a life and this is her being gentle and mild. You are in for an absolute treat ❤
I love Dame Shirley Bassey telling of her growing up when the music teacher would tell little Shirley to get further back until she was in the hall out of the room & still too loud. i hope that teacher was around to see the success of her wonderfully powerful voice.
Thank you for your reaction to Dame Shirley Bassey. Dame Shirley Bassey is one of the great female powerhouse vocalist divas. However, she is largely forgotten or ignored by the Millennial and Gen Z generations. She was very well known in the 1960s and 1970s mainly due to her having sung three 007 James Bond movie themes in that era: "Gold Finger," "Diamonds are Forever," and "Moonraker." She is the only singer to perform more than one James Bond song theme for the movies. Dame Shirley Bassey was born in Cardiff, Wales in 1937. In 1953, at the age of 16, she signed her first professional contract, touring with the variety show "Memories of Jolson,' a musical based on the life of Al Jolson. She received the first award for Best British Female Solo Artist at the 1st Brit Awards in 1977. In 1994, she became a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE). She was made a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire (DBE) on in 1999 for services to entertainment. In 2003, she was ranked among the "100 Great Black Britons". Her song "Goldfinger" was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2008. You should definitely react to Shirley Bassey's performances of the Bond theme songs. I recommend this video of a live performance of a medley of all three Bond theme songs in 2006 when she was age 69: th-cam.com/video/22vrXXSWDVU/w-d-xo.html (starting at time 3:23). You may also want to marvel at how well her voice and stage presence have held up by reacting to this 2022 live performance of "Diamonds Are Forever" when she was age 85: th-cam.com/video/5dtqj_1a8oY/w-d-xo.html For something different, I am also going to suggest that you react to a performance by the Propellerheads featuring Shirley Bassey of the song "History Repeating" originally released in 1998: th-cam.com/video/yzLT6_TQmq8/w-d-xo.html .
My dear Patrick, I'm on my 60's and now quite glad you understand that there was already beauty, glam, and art in the XX century. Welcome to Shirley Bassey's world! and please find Barbra, Liza, Aretha, Judy, and so many more.
HÁ O MOMENTO DE PARAR. Por mais quê nós a amemos, não queremos vê-la passar por nenhum momento de constrangimento. Ela já entrou para a HISTÓRIA MUNDIAL, não tenho dúvidas quanto à isso.
If "I did it my way" it is your first and only performance that you've seen/ heard by Shirley Bassy; you haven't seen anything yet! Highly, highly recommend you critique her live performance of hit sond "this is my life" as she delivers it in English and Italian. I promise you that it will blow your glasses off and fill your ears with nothing less than absolute hypnotizing note smashing that leaves the contemporary concert stage performers sounding like kids imitating real singers!
Dame Shirley is in this business since the 50ies. She is well known for her sometimes contralto operatic singing style and almost belcanto like controle of the voice even into her eighties.
Maravilhosa Shirley Bassey, um talento inato para o canto. Uma cantora com uma voz e um encanto extraordinários. No campo da música ela me satisfaz por completo. Adoro!!!
Not 'Miss' Shirley Bassey. She was honoured by H.M. Queen Elizabeth as 'Dame' Shirley Bassey. A significant medal of honour. Dame Shirley V. Bassey C.B.E. (1993) D.B.E. (2000) :-)
Amazing reaction video to one of the best black female singers in the world, if you want to see more emotion and power please see her sing Born to Lose (this same concert), one of her first concerts after the tragic death of her daughter - you can see the tears in her eyes bless her. x
Like the Queen she’s been around all my life since the 60’s. At school we used to call her Burly Chassis. For obvious reasons. She was/is/forever will be a stellar artist. Wales blessed the world when it gave you Richard Burton Tom Jones and Shirley Bassey.
The Diva of Divas her entire life and to this very day. She can still knock 'em out of the park in her 80s. One not many people will suggest but absolutely heart wrenching is "If You Go Away". But "Goldfinger" at the Royal Albert Hall is pinnacle Shirley.
I am so happy to see you react to Dame Shirley Bassey! I have suggested her a few times, especially when reactors discover Tom Jones! She is simply iconic, a Welsh singer from Tiger Bay in Cardiff (just down the road from me) and I grew up listening to her. She sang the theme songs for 3 Bond movies: Goldfinger, Diamonds are Forever and Moonraker. Her most well-known songs are Hey Big Spender, I Who Have Nothing, As Long As He Needs Me, This Is My Life - there are so many, but with her incredible voice and stage presence you can't go wrong!
I have read most of the comments and I agree with them all. She is much better to watch than just hear because she is very much a live performer. During the 1970s she became a gay icon and many drag queens used to copy her.
I read somewhere that Frank thought the song was too self-indulgent and didn't quite like it, but he recognized that it would be a hit and still recorded it. I kinda agree that on paper they seem a bit too grandiose to sing about oneself, but I think Shirley's way of singing them makes it work so well. In her voice, it sounds very emotional and self-reflective rather than self-indulgent
This is my life, then This is my life, followed by This is my life, including, This is my life. You could throw in, This is my life. But add in , I am what I am, for good measure. How have you lived without DSB 😅❤
The Dame Shirley Bassey sang 2 James Bond theme songs “Goldfinger” and “Diamonds are Forever”. Maybe you’ve heard those. Ooh, reactions to those songs live would be awesome!
Oh my god! If you haven’t heard of Shirley Bassey where have you been…. She has one of the most powerful voices of any female artists, Whitney Houston is on a par with her. I’ve seen Shirley Bassey live in concert twice in the 1980’s truly amazing!!
What is so amazing about Shirley Bassey is that she never sings the same song the same when she performs it live. This is why she has always preferred a live audience. Check out Shirley's 1974 rendition of "My Way" that was performed on one of her many, many TV specials. Again, she approaches this song a little differently with her vibrato, but with the same outstanding results! Check out Shirley's 1995 performance of 'Who Wants To Live Forever'. She performed this on a TV Show. Also, see her 1979 rendition of the song, 'I Who Have Nothing'. This was performed on her TV show. This lady started in show business back in 1953 at the age of 16. Her family was extremely poor living in Tiger Bay, Wales, and at an early age she discovered that singing was the only way she could move up financially in her life. She is the only artist in history who has achieved a top 40 hit in 7 consecutive decades. She has had a ton of her own single hits, but her album sales were amazing. She has amassed over 135 Million record sales. She was inducted into the Guinness Book of World records in 2000 for being the largest selling female artist form the United Kingdom. She is also the only artist who has recorded more than ONE James Bond movie Soundtrack. She has done three: Goldfinger, Diamonds are Forever, and Moonraker.
I'm thrilled she came across your radar. She was considered to some to be England's Streisand. She hit it big in the U.S. with her song Goldfinger from the James Bond film. She has a wealth of amazing songs and vocals. I was privileged to see her live at Boston Symphony Hall in the early 1990s. One of the best concerts ever! Close to Tina Turner!
Wales’ or UK’s Streisand, from interviews I’ve seen with her I consider her to very proud of her Tiger Bay and Welsh roots. I’m sure the English appreciate her talent though.
Yes ! More Shirley Bassey reactions please ! I recommend you to react to her singing "This is my life". ;) On a side note, do you know that Céline Dion sang it live ? There is no video but an audio and her rendition is phenomenal. You should listen to it !
Good old Shirl! Love her. If you plan to take a deep dive into her back catalogue, don't forget to watch her singing The Living Tree during a Royal Variety Performance. Believe it or not, this was a good performance but nowhere near her best. She sings from her soul and often cries when she sings. It's sort of primal, for want of a better word.
OK, late to the party but now you've got there! There are other ladies with great voices but no one, no one emotes a song like Shirley. She's the Dame!
Glad you found her!! There’s Barbra and Bassey. Both classy, balls to wall singers in total control of their instruments. For the future, keep exploring Bassey: 1973 - she’s in her mid 30s This is My Life Start at 40:20 th-cam.com/video/jLPVgsunmXI/w-d-xo.html 2009 - mid 70s and the voice is still there The Performance of My Life th-cam.com/video/Phq_BMlGuCU/w-d-xo.html
Yesss,I love this powerhouse singer! If you have seen the James Bond movie; Golfinger, she sings title song. So many performances for you to see & hear. 😊
Dear Patrick, thanks for this reaction. And yes, miss Bassey is simply the best live entertainer ever, never playback!! Check out some other songs, This is my life and Something are also fantastic!!
That ending was amazing and the overall warmth of her voice is to die for. Patrick we know you love Celine... she did this song LIVE. Maybe you´d love to check it out. There´s no video, only audio. But it´s good audio quality.
Welp! Go figure 💁🏾♂️. It’s so disappointing how these elite magazines that used to be creditable in the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s have lost touch. That list was so disrespectful.
That’s terrible! You can’t even compare Dame Shirley to Taylor Swift. Only singer to do 3 James Bond themes. However she’s British ( Welsh) and it amazes me how few American music reactors have heard of her! You should see her at age 85 sing diamond’s are forever at the 2022 BAFTAS. Incredible.
Why My Way was so poignant because if you know her history- born black in tiger bay wales ( rough life) . Treated like crap. Now Dame Shirley Bassey lives in Monaco. Her daughter died mysteriously in her 20s. This lady has lived through prejudice, poverty she is a Queen not a DBE. Amazing and so sincere. Apparently a vocal coach said she could have done opera but she came from the slums of Wales- not possible in those days. I love her so much! Xxxxxxxx
It’s so painful to hear mediocre singers called artists when there are amazing vocalists who can take you through all emotions belting out or whisper, she commands the stage holding her own with the orchestra. Dame Shirly Basie is an Artist
This is My Life, Diamonds are Forever and Goldfinger, the latter two being the theme songs for James Bond movies in the sixties, I Who Have Nothing. And everything else. SB doesn't have a bad song. ''Hey Big Spender" is heaps of fun.
Hello, thanks for reacting to Shirley Bassey. Please can I recommend her performing two of her James Bond tracks called Diamonds Are Forever and Goldfinger, you should be able to find them in this link th-cam.com/video/7ItROSewzBs/w-d-xo.html Shirley was in her mid 60s in these clips I believe, in 2022 she performed these songs at the Royal Albert Hall in London at 85. Obviously the performance differed to performances when she was younger but still brilliant considering her age.
OUR DAME SHIRLEY BASSEY .....................UK National Treasure and loved so much
Welsh legend. 🏴
I just can't compare any singer with Bassey she is the best ❤🎉
In the 80s, I saw her live numerous times. She was a great singer, but she could put on a dynamic show. She was a beautiful woman and episized her beautiful body but with humor.
I never heard anyone like Shirley Bassey. She was one of the best vocalists of all time.

One of those on top of the mountain. She reached 'shit-hot'- many years ago....and her prowess stayed.
She is a real powerhouse & so humble!
have a try of Shirley singing "This is My Life" (have tissues ready)
Yes please, it's unforgettable.
One of the best female singers from the UK she is just pure genius
Not just UK from Anywhere! !!!!
❤ amaior cantora do planeta terra

You have to see the 1974 TV show version of this song, you will be blown away
Dame Shirley is pure magic. Wonderful & wonderfully talented. Her voice is unique. It is all her own. A welsh singer through & through
DSB is a living Legend and more famous than some AM rock mag of the last century !! 💃👏👏
I have loved Shirley Bassey since I first saw her in London when I was a child. She had her own shows on British TV in the 60's. She sang the theme of three Bond films. Choose any song on the net and you won't be disappointed. Watch out, though, once she captures you she captures for ever!
Expect perfection from Dame Shirley Bassey! That is all! 😊
I just recently "discovered" Dame Shirley Bassey, and I feel like an IDIOT for not knowing about her sooner... She is AMAZING.
Don’t worry. I had no idea either. But, now I’m fully aware. 😊💯
Love from the UK our power house singer ❤❤❤❤
She sang for JFK latest album 2 years ago at the age of 83 went straight to number 4 in the charts
Fabulous, aint she Patrick?
We do occasionally turn out some decent singers here in the UK!
I have been a fan of Dame Shirley Bassey since I was about ten years old. That was 1972! In my opinion, she is the very best of all the divas. She is now in her 80s and her voice is still very strong. I'm so glad you've discovered her.
Check out I who have nothing !!!!

Nicely done Patrick, a real tribute to Shirley.
She is a class act!. Love Shirley Bassey! :)

My grandmother wanted this played at her funeral. We did RIP nanna
Great voice! I also love Ms B singing (what I did for love)🫶🏾🫶🏾🫶🏾
Dame Shirley Bassey has been an international star for almost 70 years and her voice is almost as powerful now as it was when she began her career as a teanager. A great Welsh singer and a class act.
Flawless iconic singer still with us Bassey

My favourite female singer❤
I love Dame Shirley Bassey telling of her growing up when the music teacher would tell little Shirley to get further back until she was in the hall out of the room & still too loud. i hope that teacher was around to see the success of her wonderfully powerful voice.
Fantastic voice! Please react to Shirley Bassey singing: Never, Never, Never. A big hit for her in the 70's. Thank you.

Check her out singing the Living Tree at the royal Variety performance
incomparable
Have you heard her version of Pink’s Get the Party Started? She is having so much fun in her music video. Her voice is timeless!

MAGICAL Rendition!!!!!
INSANE SOUND!!!!!OMG!!!!!
Shirley will knock it out of the ball park every time. One of the greatest performers, not just a great singer, with a catalogue going back decades.
I love Shirley, immense! My favourite version of this is Aretha's.

You have to see the 1974 live version, it is possibly the best rendition of this song ever
I have read most of the comments and I agree with them all. She is much better to watch than just hear because she is very much a live performer. During the 1970s she became a gay icon and many drag queens used to copy her.

Dame Shirley! ❤you should react to Michael Le Grand's "what are you doing the rest of your life" live with him at the piano.
What a wonderful performer. She does this song with style🤗🤗🤗🤗
She is completely melting in the song
This is my life, then This is my life, followed by This is my life, including, This is my life.
You could throw in, This is my life.
But add in , I am what I am, for good measure.

Oh my god…Im sick right now and im crying over Madam Shirley’s voice😫😫😫…
The Dame Shirley Bassey sang 2 James Bond theme songs “Goldfinger” and “Diamonds are Forever”. Maybe you’ve heard those. Ooh, reactions to those songs live would be awesome!
They're my favourite Bond themes, she also did Moonraker, making her the only person to do three Bond soundtracks
Hello
She sang 3
The third was Moonraker
She was my Mother's favourite singer; she saw her live several times here in the UK.
watch Shirley Bassey sing What Are You Doing the Rest of your life live 1979

So good to see you react to this incredible woman. I'm envious that you have so many of her superb songs to discover. Many thanks,
Please react to Goldfinger/Diamonds are forever from BAFTA’s in 2002, it’s RIDICULOUS 🙌🏻
Yesss,I love this powerhouse singer! If you have seen the James Bond movie; Golfinger, she sings title song. So many performances for you to see & hear. 😊
Excellent!! Is she Welsh? So is Tom Jones! Wonder if they ever sang together?
Dear Patrick, thanks for this reaction. And yes, miss Bassey is simply the best live entertainer ever, never playback!! Check out some other songs, This is my life and Something are also fantastic!!

Dame Shirley does not belt she finds it insulting Welcome to DSB Land! Beautiful Presentation
Goldfinger....James Bond Theme
Her version is my favorite version of this song. It just hit me in the right place! My God!
Great review of one of my favorite singers. You should check out her performances of NEVER NEVER NEVER, THIS IS MY LIFE and I AM WHAT I AM.
That ending was amazing and the overall warmth of her voice is to die for. Patrick we know you love Celine... she did this song LIVE. Maybe you´d love to check it out. There´s no video, only audio. But it´s good audio quality.
Shirley Bassey wasn't included in the Top 200 of the Rolling Stone Singers list and Taylor Swift was.....
Incredible.
I can only conclude that none of them heard Dame Shirley because she really is world beating !
It's because she is beyond stupid lists, she has more talent and class in her little finger than they could ever dream of.
This is WHY CHAKA KHAN OWED NO ONE AN APOLOGY SHE HAS EARNED HER RIGHT TO AN OPINION AND HAS SAID WHAT SHE SAID ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION ❤
Xxxxxxxx
I would recommend Mr Tom Jones if you don't know him already. He is an old man now but he still has a great voice.
Paul Anka wrote the song for Frank Sinatra.
Best version of the song, no offense to Frank Sinatra
Hello, thanks for reacting to Shirley Bassey. Please can I recommend her performing two of her James Bond tracks called Diamonds Are Forever and Goldfinger, you should be able to find them in this link th-cam.com/video/7ItROSewzBs/w-d-xo.html
Shirley was in her mid 60s in these clips I believe, in 2022 she performed these songs at the Royal Albert Hall in London at 85. Obviously the performance differed to performances when she was younger but still brilliant considering her age.
Give a listen to her version of Madonna's You'll See
Check out 'Think of Me' !!
