This is the first RPG I ever played back in 1990. It was one of those games that changed my perception of how I love about games for the rest of my life.
Unlike Dragon Quest, I can't actualy see my characters fight instead of the first person perspective. Anyways I managed to off screen level and obtain 100% treasures. Note: when I defeat a Fiends of Elements, the altar is supposed to release a light indicating that I restore the Orbs/Crystals. You can see it this is due to the emulator glitch.
Well anyways enjoy this epic rpg that saved SquareEnix company from being bankrupt.. -

The Marsh cave has to be one of the hardest places in the game at that point. Considering what level range you would be at, the monster types, the random encounters and scripted encounters in front of the chests.

The magic system...reminds me of D&D's spell slots(which I'm sure they took it from).
Along with Bahamut and Tiamat. Well, in tiamat's case just the name.
Props to you on your editing. I can't tell when you cut from one screen to the next after you've grinded out a few levels and accrued some gp.

i figured out the four fiends' names
Earth: Lich
Fire: Marilith
Wind: Tiamat
Water: Kraken
along with Garland, these are the main bosses of the first game.
I have this game for my Iphone 6 and it feels like I have to still beat it again but this time with much better graphics around!
Now I have updated to an iPhone 10 and still have the game right to this very day in 2021 ad

Red Hat: Carl
Blue Shirt: Jake
White Mage: Kira
Red hat is Red Mage
Blue shirt is Black Belt
I love how wherever enemy you fight, you get gold, like Asp's are just packing gold, cause snakes definitely need gold
Exactly, and there lies the problem. The D&D magic system was designed for a game where characters typically only have 1-6 encounters before they can rest. However, in this game, there could be dozens of encounters before you can rest, making it so that the Black and White Mages are useless 95% of the time.
Gah, you got me started on the magic system. ;)
That’s why I opt for a red mage over a black mage

Yeah, FF1 diffinitely needed a lot more polish, but given that Square was in financial trouble at the time, I can understand why the balancing in the game was so off. And don't get me started on the magic system.

Since the silver ax was a weapon upgrade for the fighter did the red mage the ice sword and let the fighter equip the fire shield
1:17:10 that does not look like a Hyena. Square was just making up crap when naming some of the monsters. the thing doesn't even look like a Hyena.

It was painful to watch as the player was traversing through the lava because the screen kept flashing. I have this game on the NES Mini, and I think they removed or toned down the flashing as some people can have epileptic seizures.
Yeah, they weren't as cognizant of kids with seizures back then.
Every purchasable re-release of the NES version did that since the Wii virtual console release
@Elian Imanol Ramirez Cruz That's not the case with Super Mario All-Stars SNES game that was ported on Wii. For example, when a Bob-omb explodes, the screen flashes. Don't know about the Switch version, though.
So yeah, I'm having a problem trying to find haste in ff1..... I've googled it and it said in elfheim for the black mage but it wasnt there. Btw, im playing the iphone version. Help soon T.T

well - You definitely have a interesting playstyIe. I udestand why are you running from most of not lucrative encounters, but you are doing it witch such an ease, while you are not so high lvl (I know you level offscreen) but I'm nitpick, and seeing this makes my blood boil :-) - really I never run from encounter if my death was not imminent - altough I understand that here you would only wste your resources
but still nice and clean walktrough

Marsh cave osnt the hardest imo. Its the 2nd hardest. The hardest is the one where every step you take theres a random battle. Talk about annoying!
