Asiatic lion population increases in Gujarat

  • The number of Asiatic lions in Gujarat's Gir forest has risen. It has grown by almost 29% over the last five years. The lion population now stands at 674, according to the State Forest Department. This includes 161 male, 260 female, 45 sub adult male, 49 sub adult female, 22 unidentified and 137 cubs.

      @@sathwikreddymuthyala5243 That would be counterproductive. There is a tendency among humans to find our own benefits for doing anything. We should be saving Lions and Tigers to save them, not to feel proud and boast about it or increase tourism. And we trying to get the Cheetahs for that same pride, when we know that human animal conflict in India is rising and territory of our already existing species is shrinking. Introducing Cheetahs will hence create more problems. Hence it is better for India to keep away form these schemes.

    Wow great news but they're becoming too much overpopulated most of the population is roaming outside the park the protected area gujarat should allow some of the lions to relocate in the kuno national park of mp keeping their political rivalry aside for the betterment of the great asiatic lions i hope the relocation happens soon

      @Airbus A220-300 You are the one who don't know here... This census method's data can be completely faked because there is no evidence!.. camera trapping like tigers want to work but visual sensors needs to be updated with photographs of the lions faces & geotagged location.
      Every actual expert, unlike you, says that the real number is above 800. Gujarat government is going at low so that they won't get pressurised to send lions to Madhya Pradesh

    Gir forest ko thoda sa badhna chahiye kyuki bhut sare log bagal me rehte h unhe ghar makan or jamin dena chahiye kahi or wo jagah shero ke liye surachit rahegi or un logo ke liye.agar unlogo ko sarkar achi subhida denge to wo log maan jynge par sarkar sirf Wade krte h ..kyuki sher badhenge to jangal v to bada chahiye jo ki gir ab dehkne se chota h thoda

    Actually cubs are not calculated in cencus. The cencus used old method. Anyway its good news. Please reintroduce in MP as it will save the lions from future decline.
