Navajo and Arapaho are the two most common thornless blackberry bushes. The Navajo has a large berry, like what you have. I don’t know about the Arapaho.
You produced an excellent tutorial on berry jelly making. I live in east Texas where we are blessed with tons on wild berries every spring. Most of them anyway. Your video was plain and simple which gets my highest marks *****. Thank you ! I too needed a good refresher course.......
Been picking a bunch of wild berries. Im fortunate enough to have a massive patch of wild blackberries down behind my dad's pond. Been a long time since I got to make jams and jelly so im super excited about it
You deseed the same way that I do. I've always called the apparatus a chinoise. I think that's how to spell it! Cheesecloth is a really old school method and you're right, it takes sooo long. I'm making red raspberry jelly today, needed to know if I should heat berries before deseeding. This was an awesome video to refresh my memory on . Thank you!
he is right on with everything, Two things I would add is put cooked jam into warm jars, lids dipped in hot steamy water and with larger jars bath them for 10 min. yum yum
Good morning Teresa, You can purchase this vintage jelly sieve, strainer on Ebay. It will cost between 19.95 and 24.99. Thank you for watching and I hope you give jelly making a try.
Hey There! Got a question: What if I want to add some other liquid ingredient for additional flavoring... ? Say 2 - 4 tablespoons per batch... Should I alter that recipe any, or just keep things as they are? I am thinking, maybe remove that much in the blackberry juice to keep the liquid at 4 cups exactly?? :) Thanks!
David Hall We have bears twice a week, but they like the peaches instead of the blackberries. The Black Bears have become over populated. They are even in the subdivisions in our area. I have no clue how to get rid of them. Thank you for watching.
I'm not sure which is worse , the over population of people in this area of Pennsylvania , due to fracking , or the black bears. ( bears are better ) lol
The recipes I have seen add 3 MORE cups of sugar than you do. I would think 7.5 cups would be excessively sweet! Did you reduce the amount or use recipe on sure gel?

Hi Harold, love your videos, you just make this process so easy. Do you have a mulberry recipe for jelly/jam?
Try the same as black berry ,let me know thanks
May I ask where you got your juicer from? I've never made jelly and I bet that gadget would work better than cheese cloth.

We have lots of bears here in NC too. However they don't seem to bother my berries.

Holy wow, that looks like a lot of sugar. No wonder Marsha is so sweet! Love seeing you guys again. Be well.
Lolita's Garden You can always use the low sugar surejell. Marsha makes that kind for her Mother, who doesn't like things so sweet.
Navajo and Arapaho are the most common thorn-less blackberries used.
