I love ur videos, a very conversational and entertaining style. Also cooking kits and fire, so fits in with my interests. Please don't burn yourself out and just make videos as you can! Have a blessed day!!
I bought this on Ernie’s advice and it works well with a #2 Mellita coffee filter. My current trail coffee kit is this collapsible filter, a Japanese double walled Snow Peak titanium 16 oz mug, Fire Maple Petrel pot and Fire Maple GreenPeak stove.
I've been using coffee bags that you can fill and seal yourself. They have "ears" that hang on a cup, tear off the top and pour boiling water over. I can use whatever coffee or tea I like and cleanup is easy. Just throw the bag away ... responsibly.
@aramboodakian9554 These bags have plastic "wings" do you would need to carry them out. As for the effect of coffee grounds on the environment it would very much depend on the specific environment but in most places I'd imagine that they would be harmless
Love the pour over. I like using the paper filter because it makes cleaning so much easier and eliminates small coffee particles and seemingly some of the acidity in the flavor. I would like to have the makers of the silicone filters also provide in the manufacturing of their product to include an air space between the coffee in the filter and the drain hole to the cup underneath. This is how the coffee pods are designed and would make the brewing process that much quicker. Nice vid Ernie.
I used to have a barge terminal in BTR and loved driving Mississippi River Bridge on I 10 and smelling the Community Coffee roasting facility at the harbor.
I still use the GSI collapsible item, you had on you channel a few years back, use paper filters which you can fold a few up and fit in the filter. Just rinse it out and good to go 😊
We carry a light plastic electric kettle and a plastic GSI coffee press, but my wife fills a large thermos when in a hotel. Thus the large press. Ihave a gsi solo minimalist and an aero press or the coffee rocket with the sea to summit collapsible cup with the fins on it so you don’t need a glove. I carry that in my motorcycle. Obviously a BRS style canister stove in the pot
I have a small oval-shaped collapsible silicone one that uses small cone-shaped filters that store flat. I've flown with that, and it was fine. I stayed with family that had a proper kitchen so heating water was no problem. I've also traveled by car to a motel room, where I brought an electric hot pot to heat water to make the coffee. I also brought individual little shelf-stable creamers for the coffee.
It looks ok but for me the MSR Mugmate filter is the best and simplest going. What I don't like with this filter is the water just pours over it so you won't get good extraction - with the Mugmate it sits in the mug and therefore the water infuses with the grinds better. Yes the mugmate doesn't compact down but you can easily squirrel it away somewhere - and it's still less bulky than most other options like an aeropress. I actually have something which I can't find again, had it years whilst in the army, so it's travelled a fair bit, it might actually be a tea strainer, but it's a little smaller than the mugmate, same sort of design tho. Thanks Ernie!
I just ordered one. I got the light blue one as it and the red were cheaper than the other collors and I prefer blue. I recently found out I could buy gift cards with my credit card rewards so I got an amazon card and used it to buy this and an MSR Alpine 775 ml Stowaway pot that can hold my GasOne gasifier stove. These are also good to have in the house in case the power is out and you can still use your natural gas stove or a camp stove to heat water for coffee.
Dr. Garcia, You might want to get one of the collapsible electric kettles along with a silicone collapsable camping cup (large) and don’t forget the measuring coffee scoop for the ground coffee bag. I use Community Coffee Breakfast Blend as well…no matter how long it sits in the hot coffee pot, it never gets that bitter Folgers taste !
Cool, making coffee is much more fun than the “test stove by bringing 2 cups of water to a boil”. I have been using a collapsible silicone coffee dripper cone for over 6 years with a #2 paper filter for making coffee on the road. The paper filter makes it much easier for clean up. Back then they came 2 in a pack so I keep 1 in my suitcase (10 filters and 1 cone in a ziplock sandwich bag with coffee in an old screw top pill bottle, & I replace the filters when I get home). The other is in my car camping kitchen with filters. I will pull into a highway rest area, put 2 mug fulls of water into a 12v kettle with automatic shutoff that can hold up to 1 liter & set to boil, go use restroom & water is ready for pour over when I get back. Use rest of hot water for 2nds.
Pair this with a collapsible coffee cup for compact on the go. Yes to paper filters, they can also be used as a napkin, a tinder for fire starting and keep items from rattling.
Walmart had a 16 oz collapsible cup that also came in red (it's currently showing as out of stock). I bought one hoping it would fit in a hydration pouch with a Stanley 2 cup cook set, but unfortunately it was just a little too big in diameter.
I just simply took a silicone funnel I got from Walmart cut the long tip off use a filter inside set it on my cup pour hot water over the grinds when it’s done just pitch the filter and grinds in the fire or trash wipe the funnel out and that’s it
I bought one years ago. Same idea. Water goes through real fast. Mine leaves alot of fines in the cup. Don't like leaving an inch of coffee in the bottom of my cup. Tried paper filters and might be me but have a hard time keeping the filter from falling over. Started wrapping up the coffee in the paper filter. Works but still kind of a pain. My search continues. Still like my Stanley percolator about the best if time and space isn't a problem. Thanks.
I'm starting to see more TH-camrs (canoeist) use the AeroPress...this is an expresso type tool, but some will add boiling water after the press. It does use paper filter, and the whole thing packs away in itself nicely. I haven't seen anyone review this one yet.
My travel coffee kit fits into a small shave bag sized molle bag. Gsi pourover, aeropress, trangia with the triangle(finally came back down in price), a stanley 2 cup cookset with all the extras, the grinder that fits in the aeropress, aeropress k cup adapter, and aeropress prismo "espresso" adapter. That way im covered for 3 different yet easy methods. The main reason for the k cup adapter is different available k cups...tomato soup?
I am going to try it. I do not like any of the instant coffees I’ve tried, and hotel coffee is terrible. As far as a travel stove setup I think fuel is going to be the hardest thing. If you are flying I don’t know what is allowed.
I'm not a coffee drinker. But I would like to see the finished entire kit. I like to have a good compact kit, whatever it may be. That said, I'll sacrifice compactness for better higher function. I don't count grams even though I'll sacrifice comfort items or redundant items to keep weight down and managable depending on how I travel.
I have 1 con with mine. Every other brew the screen pops out of the little collar that holds the stainless filter in place. It is finicky to try to get the filter back under that collar. I always carry no. 2 filters because of that.
Nice, Amazon Canada its 36 bucks compared to the $9.99 Amazon USD . Even with the currency exchange it should only be $13.67 CDN . Man we get hosed up here in the great white north.
I have one with a nylon filter, this seems better because - plastics. Recently I've been using single use paper tea/coffee bags which has the advantage of being able to use my pot as my cup.

Thanks, I need one of these. But Dark Roast for me.
Thanks for this video of the nectar of the gods…looks like a winner to me!
Have a great day and a safe travel!
Thanks Doc, yeah life is crazy, ALL THE TIME! That is why we need coffee.
Now your tracking, Ultimate travel coffee kit!

That’s nice but for backing you don’t want to pack out wet paper. I think leaving coffee grounds in the earth is okay, but I might be wrong …
Interesting? Where do you get these?
@aramboodakian9554

Paper filters for sure, just to make cleanup easier. And $10 is a pretty good price as others are closer to $15/$20 or even more! Thanks!
Thanks Ernie! I like this one and the UST for paper filters.
Community Coffee Breakfast Blend ROCKS!
Mardi Gras is my favorite. Best ever!!!!
Thanks Ernie! For an ultimate travel setup Amazon has 350 ml, electric travel kettles too! Right around 25 bucks.
I used to have a barge terminal in BTR and loved driving Mississippi River Bridge on I 10 and smelling the Community Coffee roasting facility at the harbor.
I like it. I have a collapsible Melita #2 cone that I use.
That's my go to for my semi truck. Truck stop coffee is nasty
Community for the win!
I like that one! Might replace my GSI pourover filter for this one.
I also have a neat little coffee-related product I'm reviewing soon...
Definitely a filter. Clean up in a hotel room would be messy. I have a Jettle, small electric kettle for travel.

Thumbs up, subbed and shared on facebook
Nice job, I could almost smell the coffee.

Good review, thanks for sharing, YAH bless !

Coffee is a must for Native Louisiana Folks.
But chickory
Think I might look into that

Nice video Thanks
Cusa coffee is the best instant I have ever had. They use a proprietary process to make the coffee that sets them apart.
Pair this with a collapsible coffee cup for compact on the go. Yes to paper filters, they can also be used as a napkin, a tinder for fire starting and keep items from rattling.

Another use for paper filters is pre-filtering water to remove particulate matter before further purification.

Right now i have the jet boil x2 and the aeropress go. Also the jet boil coffee press...and of course several more...but...always room for 1 more. Lol
Ok..I just ordered the blue one. Hope folgers black silk works in it

I have been using a collapsible filter maker for years, It doubles as a prefilter for gritty water.
☕️
I like it and did not even use filters. I will use this in lieu of Aeropress while camping due to simplicity.
Thanks I’ve been looking for something like this. Is there anything new coming out?
I am going to try it. I do not like any of the instant coffees I’ve tried, and hotel coffee is terrible. As far as a travel stove setup I think fuel is going to be the hardest thing. If you are flying I don’t know what is allowed.
This looks like a smaller version of the Sea to Summit collapsible coffee filter that I think you reviewed a few years ago.
I use the SOTO Compact Helix Coffee Maker and conic paper filters. I can see how much coffee is in the cup without lifting the filter.
I'm not a coffee drinker. But I would like to see the finished entire kit. I like to have a good compact kit, whatever it may be. That said, I'll sacrifice compactness for better higher function. How about tea?
What's the weight?
Nice, Amazon Canada its 36 bucks compared to the $9.99 Amazon USD . Even with the currency exchange it should only be $13.67 CDN . Man we get hosed up here in the great white north.
Only in the states...lucky you...
It's probably better that your full-time and part-time ventures aren't flip-flopped. Production doesn't add value. It adds production.
I have one with a nylon filter, this seems better because - plastics.
Recently I've been using single use paper tea/coffee bags which has the advantage of being able to use my pot as my cup.
I thought you said you liked coffee?
What kinda con is there😹 thanks for the review. Seems like a simple and reliable product by a solid company
Did I miss the weight?
Didn’t display on my iPad. Not seeing it in the notes or comments.
Weight was not posted. He slipped twice on this video.
Aeropress Go. Thank me later.
And with a metal filter, the clean up is super easy.
Concur. AeroPress Go. Cup. Scoop. Stirrer. Tiny paper filters. Press. Just add coffee and water.
Not cheap, though.
Paper filters would speed up the cleaning process and not be to much more expensive
Gear channel that is never tested outdoors.
I would argue that Starbucks is crap overpriced coffee, but to each their own.
