I’m wondering if the original Boggart was made by Ron at the end of Chamber of Secrets? Harry and Ron were hiding in the closet in the staff room when they found out Ginny was taken. Ron was really scared. Then three months later a boggart it is found in what appears to be the same closet.

Also, don’t forget, the Cloak was also not able to fool a map made by 4 rebellious teenagers, so that poses its own hilarious questions.
Maybe because it was partly made by a descendent of the original third brother
The map doesn't use sight, why should the cloak work against it?
Granted, one of the makers of said map owned the Cloak, so maybe it was easier than we think. As for the eye, I have no clue.
Death was simply unfamiliar with inexistent back then modern technologies, he created the cloak like ages ago!

I would love to see a theory video on whether or not some form of dementor fluid (tears or blood) could have been an ingredient in the potion that Dumbledore drank in Half-Blood Prince. This is solely based on Dumbledore seemingly reliving his worst memory while drinking that potion.
My theory is that the boggart stays as the form of the last thing it was transformed as.
How would it stay in places like drawers though...

@@jakewhiston6461 there's a difference between a magical suitcase and a regular drawer though; if it stayed in the form it was last in and it was pretty big it wouldn't really make sense for it to be able to fit in a drawer
@@sploog yes but instead of the suitcase being bigger on the inside the creature shrinks to fit the dimensions of what it's trying to enter, like the creature in the first film

I was just reading PoA yesterday and I was wondering why the patronus charm would even work on a boggart! Great video (as always)!!
Well, the patronus worked against draco and his goons, so it's kind of a goodforall. It didn't defeat the boggart, though, only pushed it back iirc

I believe when lupin says ridducuilus to get rid of the boggart in prisoner of azkaban, it is described as being said "sleepely" so it seems like it had an effect.
Interesting theory! My assessment of Harry's reaction to the boggart-dementor has always been more of a placebo effect. I never assumed the boggart-dementor has the actual abilities of a full-fledged dementor, and that Harry feeling the effects was just his own internal fears and expectations of how to feel around what appears to be an actual dementor.
But the idea of a boggart being a lesser/earlier form of a dementor is a curious thought. Likening it to the evolution of pokemon or metamorphosis of a butterfly (weird to use dementor and butterfly in the same sentence) could make some sense.
There is that brief mention in HBP about dementors breeding and the fog that it creates, so who's to say there aren't little boggartlings slinking around in the fog?

In the book also Snape steps out of the cupboard. It goes like this -
" A jet of sparks shot from the end of Professor Lupin's wand and hit the doorknob. The wardrobe burst open. Hook-nosed and menacing, Professor Snape stepped out, his eyes flashing at Neville.
So it means boggarts can see who is facing them from inside of cupboards or wardrobes.
And probably Moody saw what his worst fear was in the cupboard and recognised the boggart.
1. Does this mean you can suggest that Moody can wield the MCU's Mjolnir? That a Qilin would bow to him, too?
2. So the way to fight a dementor is to force-stuff it its favorite food, joy? I should also let you know that Sirius survived dementors by using knowledge that would keep him simply sane (such as his identity, determination, or the whereabouts of one Peter Pettigrew/Wormtail/$

I’m thinking that Moodys boggart would be the trio of Voldemort, Barty Crouch JR, and Wormtail
In the _Lego Harry Potter_ games, Boggarts are a gameplay mechanic, and characters whose canonical Boggarts are known (i.e. Dementors for Harry, spiders for Ron, McGonagall failing her for Hermione, etc), these are retained, but for other characters, Moody included, they all get the same Boggart - Voldemort.

I was always under the impression the Dementors occur when someone gets the Dementor's kiss, after all that is what is implied when Lupin tells Harry about them in the third book

I wonder if Lupin lied to Harry and said he did not want to see Voldemort in class, but actually he might not have wanted to see Sirius Black, because he did not know if he would be able to fight his old friend.
Something I've always thought was dumb is that they say "no one knows what a bogart really looks like" but... mad eye can see through *multiple* walls so I'm glad this vid dropped

I have a theory that the moon itself doesn’t actually change werewolf’s they just change at the same time of the month that the full moon comes out
Because he had a lot of enemies, Moody was paranoid and overly cautious(not enough since he still got himself kidnapped by Barty Crouch jr) which means that he did fear them so he would see them and not a dementor. He doesn't fear fear, he fears his ennemies.
These dudes come up with the weirdest theories and im totally here for it
Fun fact:Ron’s only scared of spiders because of an incident when he was little where Fred/George transfigured his favourite teddy bear into one.
In the books, we do get a description of what is under the hood when Harry is about to cast his patronus, he was about to get the kiss of death but he casted his patronus perfectly, it describes the dementors mouth as an empty void, and instead of eyes they just have a blue scar. If you do not believe me check the Prisoner of Azkaban.
I have always thought they would look like what an obscurus looks like, or dark mist/ fog.
the laughter thing most likely you have to laugh at a Bogart not around a Bogart or else they would have told joke outside the cabinet to defeat it.
Something worth mentioning: Boggarts have to have a second power besides shapeshifting, and I believe that the second power is to make their witness believe it is real. Otherwise, they would do basically nothing against anyone without a deep-seated phobia, but they definitely work on everyone. This also lends itself to how it could reproduce the dementor effect, but not another magical effect, and that is because the dementor’s effect is primarily psychological. This would also explain why Lupin’s moon did not make him transform, as the real moon is a magical trigger, not his perception of it being a real moon.
This is kinda related but not really, but my sister realized that when Ron says harry is gonna suffer but be happy about it, he's not talking about when he sacrifices himself in the last book like everyone assumed, he's talking about when Harry hears his mothers voice when a dementor is near. Because he's sad, but he still wants to hear her voice 😥🤯

A boggart isn't weak to laughter. Laughter is a symptom of joy, the polar opposite to fear. Like Voldemort not wanting to be inside of Harry's head when harry is feeling love for anyone
I would expect Moody's would be himself in his captured form in Crouch Jr.s trunk in year 4.
Also consider this: Boggarts transform into what the beholder is the most afraid of, which could well be something another person doesn't fear. Dementors on the other hand are impossible to be not afraid of. So in a manner of speaking, they are generalised boggarts. Even though a person might fear something else more, no one is able to have no fear in the face of a dementor. A dementor in its nature is fear, and the boggart as an infant dementor "trains" for this nature to become the most generally scary entity. Makes perfect sense to me. Thanks a lot for the video! ^^
I always thought of Dementors as Depression and Boggarts as Anxiety. So yes, related, yet different.
Also: People under the invisibility cloak appear on the Marauder's Map, so Death couldn't find the third brother, but four teenagers could see under the cloak......... wow.

Littlebit off topic but i have a question about the champer of secrets... the entrance is in the girls bathroom, so far so good. But Hogwarts was founded in the 10th century... So did they already had sinks in that time? i would doubt that, but why was the entrance not discovered when they installed the pipes and such. Would like to see a video about your theory on that topic.
I mean, Ancient Rome had running water, so I'm not terribly unconvinced that there may have been pipes already. We could also use the "magic solves everything" approach and either say that Hogwarts evolved as it became more modern (which I think we do know does happen) or that Slytherin cast some unknown spell like in the Room of Requirement to hide it.

If my biggest fear is a boggart, what would it turn into? My guess is that it won't reveal it's true form, rather, that it would constantly shapeshift, showcasing it's power in order to scare me.
I would be more inclined to think that it's like a frog and toad situation. A related (non)being but not the same thing.

One thing that would support this theory is the idea that the patronus would work on the boggart. Otherwise there would be no point in trying to use the boggart to train in the use of said patronus. Harry was able to teach others to use a patronus without one in the 5th book so it is not a requirement to learn. Lupin would know this so why would he choose to still subject Harry to the effects of a boggart turned dementor just to learn a spell that would have no effect on said boggart? This would lead to the idea that a patronus, a spell meant to fight dementors, also works on boggarts.
We need a theory about Moody’s eye now!

Love this! Though I’m tempted to believe that Moody’s bogart is Barty Crouch Jr. After what Moody went through a year before, I wouldn’t be surprised if he was always having nightmares of Crouch Jr even though he’s no longer a threat.
that is actually something that I was also scratching my head about that the Boggart not only has the affect on Harry but it is also affected by the Patronus-spell as well so it takes the powers but also the weaknesses of the being which as you said is strange if it just takes the appearance normally. It might be of course just a plothole as Rowling needed a way to let Harry train the spell but it would be cool if there is more to it. Then again it could be that it always takes on not only the form but also powers/weaknesses just that the moon would be too much or work on a level with werewolves that the Boggart can't replicate as it is on a "dna" level...
So maybe once a Boggart created a certain amount of fear, getting stronger and stronger by it, it evolves into a Dementor. If not that then at least they would be able to have a symbiotic kind of relationship. One creates fear the other one feasts on it.
Note: Werewolves transforms only when there is an actual full moon occuring, he does not need to actually see the moon. If they did, then werewolves could theoretically just close their eyes or stay in the room to avoid transforming.
If this theory holds true, then it might explain why the boggart in Grimould Place was so much more powerful than Molly expected. Sure she was in a vulnerable state of mind anyway, but maybe all the fear in that house, the fear of grown men and women who knew enough about the last war to be know how scared they should be, pushed the boggart closer to its dementor 'final form'.

I don’t think a Biggart’s true form would be a miniscule Dementor.
To stay true to the theory, I imagine 8t would be something of a dementor without its hood.
Because it doesn’t want to reveal its true form, when it doesn’t have a hood, it transforms, and once they develop a hood, they no longer have a reason to transform

What if the thing that scares you the most is a concept rather than an actual living thing? Like if the thing you are scared of the most is death just like voldemort?
Counterargument to lupin facing the boggart - i dont think there was enough time for the transformation to begin. In a lot of werewolf depictions when they see the full moon, its always at least a few moments before the transformation begins.
Its probably an evolutionary thing for the human side to allow the mind and body that little extra time to circumvent the process and stay human. Stay in the moonlight too long, as what happens later in PoA, then its too late.
The thing is, aren't we told with the mouse Patronus story that the dementors were invented by an evil wizard and lived on Azkaban island? So they wouldn't generate, unless the evil wizard we hear of just discovered them. Perhaps the wizard simply discovered a fully-grown dementor, after it's thousand year-youth or something like that.
And we're told in Order they can breed... Do they drop the babies off by fear or does magic come into play?

In your other video, "Why Azkaban uses Dementors", you said that the Dementors were "created" by the wizard who used to live on the island, and that they aren't natural. Maybe the things the wizard used to make them were Boggarts.

I'm so glad boggarts aren't real because I have absolutely no clue what mine would turn into. I'm not afraid of the normal/average fears and any of my other fears just wouldn't translate well into a thing a boggart would transform into.
I also have a question about boggarts though. Why do they do what they do? Are they trying to incapacitate wizards and witches with fear to . . . to what? Eat them? If all they do is turn into something you're afraid of, why are they so dangerous? This has always confused me.

The moon doesn’t turn lupin because the full moon itself isn’t what turns werewolf’s, it’s just that that time of the month is when wearwolfs transform

Quantum Boggart, a form of hormone eating creature (adrenaline) but not the same as dementors who would feed on cortisol.
Funny to imagine other creatures that thrive on different hormones and therefore what and how they could eat something different than humans.

Until it is observed a cabinet both contains and does not contain a boggart, it is what is commonly referred to as Schrödinger's boggart.

Yeah, I can’t agree with this theory. In the books, a boggart turns into a banshee, and can perfectly replicate the banshee’s scream. The other creatures we see boggarts turn into just don’t have special abilities, but that doesn’t mean that boggarts can’t replicate abilities (like it does with the dementor….. and the banshee). There’s really no special connection with the boggart and the dementor, besides their slight similarity in getting rid of them

Love the video and the theory but the example of Lupin’s fear of the moon isn’t really a good one. Lupin doesn’t just change into his wolf form when he sees the full moon in any capacity, a werewolf’s transformations is dictated by the actual waning and waxing of the moon and the subsequent effects that has on the earth (like the tides). Just because he doesn’t change into a wolf when he sees the Boggart moon, doesn’t mean the boggart can’t potentially adopt the powers of the creature or thing it is showing as, because a werewolf’s transformation is an astronomical event rather than just a scary thing in front of you. But I do agree with the theory itself that boggarts are a pre-evolved or “baby” form of dementors, because the fact that they can replicate a dementor’s abilities, even in a diluted form, is actually very unique, like with the unicorn example, I definitely don’t think a tail hair could be used to make a wand.
