More powerlifters should looks into active weight cutting instead of passive. Lots of info coming out which may indicate that performance takes a much bigger hit from passive cutting (sauna, hot bath, etc) as opposed to active cutting (running, stairs, etc).
Probably cause u cut the glycogen out of your muscle when u active cut along with water and fat. Passive cutting will target water not stored glycogen. A heavily muscled person like John will hold kilos of stored glycogen which can be easily replenished on refeed. Cutting the glycogen is low hanging fruit that doesn't tax u like cutting a shit ton of water
Two questions Have you ever tried showering cold after the sauna i found that i sweat like a lot more when i do kinda contrast shower/sauna? Whats the difference between the personal sauna and a normal one the personal seems to be better because of the head in the cold but worse because its colder
@@bg1823 both at their regular and cut down. From what I’ve seen it’s mainly high level guys who are at the top of their weight class have to cut water to make the limit.
Nah I think he’s competing at the Kern US Open this year. Pretty sure he has gone on record saying that it’s for fun though and he doesn’t expect to break any records these days
I was planning on doing the Kern to lift with John and everyone else for fun, it’s a wrapped meet and I don’t ever want to compete in wraps again. But I’ve had little nagging injuries. So I’m just gonna focus on the Showdown in September.
You can get headaches from all the heat and dehydration. Especially when you’re in a sauna back and forth. But John didn’t experience it here because his head was out of the sauna
I dont know for other people and i never did a warer cut BUT i personally have no problem cutting like 10 lbs when going to the sauna for fun so its very personal, i know some people who go to the sauna for 10 min and basically die if they dont drink a liter of water immediatly I found that people who, sweat a lot like me have less problem going to the sauna than people who domt sweat a lot
Thanks guys great video, brilliant to see how John does his cut
im about to do my first water cut for a meet so this was so nice to see!!!
It's awful it def takes its toll on you...ill never cut weight again..ever!!!!

That’s interesting. Is there any research or article I can look at about this?

Yeah I've heard this too
John is in great shape , fair play
Probably had to use panoramic mode on the camera so both of them could fit while filming!!!! These guys are huge affff
Andy was breathing really hard into the microphone. Not gonna lie that was a tad concerning considering he wasn’t doing anything
When you are carrying that much mass you are bound to have a harder time breathing
He does no cardio so.....
how much strength did you expect to lose during this process?
Damn, I saw the subscriber count was at 9.99k. Was hoping when I clicked subscribe it’d hit 10k for you guys😂

man... he’s got mad gyno lol
Did he have gyno before? I noticed it as well but don’t recall in the past?
I don’t think that’s gyno. Looks just like puff nips
er, no?
8:28 not even close, or is it the gyno that appears only from the side...
198lb and probably 215-220lb on meet day after replenishing electrolytes, rehydrating and carbing up.
So if I walked around 200 , I'd probably cut down to 181 and then back up after weight ins ?
@@bg1823 yes, you wouldn’t compete in a completely depleted state.
@@Garabins1 yeah I just mean idk if people compete at their regular weight class or always cut down to the lower one

Crazy that this really possible. So if I’m 170 cutting down to 163 for a meet shouldn’t be that hard right?
I use that cream when I bodybuild, really gets me sweating and I feel like it helps me warm up quicker.
Whats it calld

Don't you get a massive headache from watercutting this heavily?
Headache is the least of your concerns when you lose that much waterweight in such a short time
