    the Cox P-19 plastic plane (rubber bands held wings on) was the most popular novice plane of the late 60's... and most any larger PT-19 has the same qualities. You need to build a nitro balsa plane , enjoy the trip, and then take that baby out for the maiden, like we have done over the years (late 60's to 90's). That, friend is the 'real McCoy' of an experience...and oh, make sure to throw in plenty of windex and paper towels, and don't forget the nitro flight box with starter and battery. The thrill/angst of the maiden when you actually build it from a kit(or scratch as we did) is exponetial. Ain't nuthin like tha smell of burnt nitro first thing in the morning at the flight line (it was addicting)

    Glad you didn't crash it! Walk of shame to a balsa crash is torture as the closer you get, the more carnage is apparent. Really painful when you built it from scratch with hours and hours invested in something that turned into a pile of toothpicks in seconds.

    Hi Steve, heard on the news about wildfires in Canada, hope all is well where you are and that the fires are now under control. Great plane. 👍✈️ balsa wood, not used that since I was at school in the 70s 😁the plane is so quiet and moves like a glider due to the light balsa wood. Don’t crash it Steve as am sure a bad crash would turn it into a heap of matches and toothpicks 😂

    Balsa's the best! I started with a Sig Kadet was to be 7 pounds crashes so much with it, it end up about 11 about 5 yrs later but still few. I was nitro too. You have to try a nitro or gas. I still think it's the best. Imo

  • @Edubarca46

    The PT-19 is a beautiful airplane.. The best one is the old design by Chuck Hollinger and published in 1955. Then it was kitted by JETCO and SIG. Real balsa building with a beautiful nitro glow engine. No electrics with that stupid sound. This Hollinger balsa version is still being built by real modellers worldwide.

  • @shb7772000if

    Nice job. Those PT-19s do fly very well. Also I would look into joining a real RC flying club. All those lamp posts and obstructions would make me nervous, plus you don't have to worry about whether people will be out using the park or crashing into them ;-)

    Nice review, other than the weight were there any dislikes? I own the Hanger 9 P-47 fun scale balsa and had to reglue the engine box that holds the engine due to deboned/ insufficient glue in that area caused a non powered land that luckily caused no damage and was easy to repair. Enjoyed watching Steve.

    • @CAPTAINDRONE798
      @CAPTAINDRONE798  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have no dislikes with this model as it is built well. I may get the P-47, so that is good to know about the engine box.

    • @tughillrc6327
      @tughillrc6327 ปีที่แล้ว

      They put all the weights on top that box so reinforcing it with extra 20 minute epoxy is not a bad idea.@@CAPTAINDRONE798

    Fantastic video as usual! Given the price point of this model (quite expensive, at least here in the UK where its £540) - do you think this price point is worth it over foamies? Am thinking to exchange my T-28 Trojan for this, what do you think?

    • @CAPTAINDRONE798
      @CAPTAINDRONE798  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Balsa is so much better than foam and easy for mods, but for repairs… Foam is champ since it is so simple to fix.

      @@CAPTAINDRONE798 thanks ! What’s your fun to fly rating for this model , compared to other warbirds you’ve flown recently ?

    • @CAPTAINDRONE798
      @CAPTAINDRONE798  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JMTerry1984 This falls into my category of relaxed scale flying. I'm more an adreneline flyer so i need speed and touchy controls, but this is more on the relaxed "look good" side. Most warbirds are very relaxed flyers, especially Mustangs. This one is not designed to flick around in the air, but more gental roles and loops.

      @@CAPTAINDRONE798 like you I think I’m also an adrenaline junkie, loving the FMS P51 blue thunder “Reno racer” for instance. In your view, is there a plane that “does it all” and you find yourself going back to ? I’m finding that really difficult!

    • @CAPTAINDRONE798
      @CAPTAINDRONE798  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@JMTerry1984 over the past year I have tried over 100 RC planes so you could pretty much ask me my thoughts on planes from eFlite, FMS, Freewing, Flightline, etc. The planes I fly the most seem to be the 64mm and 70mm due to size.

      If you grow up at a flying field you unfortunately never learn the skills of flying near yourself. Most of us in Canada fly in parks and very near to ourselves in 360 direction (different set of skills).

    • @b.w.oostdam8875
      @b.w.oostdam8875 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@CAPTAINDRONE798 im am afraid that that is incorrect and the reason for not flying around yourself is purely a matter of safety. I have been flying for more than 35 years and fly all styles including IMAC, F3a and 3D. I am also a certified instructor. When one flies around one self, things or living brings can very suddenly appear in the field of view and it is possible that things are in the flight path. It is just advice from an rc pilot that flies in a very crowded country with very limited flying space. No critique intended
