Butter Arms - Like Water for Chocolate Creative Exchange - Royal Opera House

Young people who have recently arrived in the UK explore and celebrate their relationship to food through dance.

This dance film is the result of one of the Royal Opera House’s Creative Exchanges. It was delivered as part of Kiln Theatre’s 'Minding the Gap' project - designed for young people who are newly arrived in the UK. The project brings together schools, colleges and charities to deliver creative programmes, developing students’ confidence, language and teamwork skills and supporting their EAL/ESOL studies.
Every Friday from 4 March until 1 April 2022, students from schools in the London borough of Brent attended workshops at the Royal Opera House, creating short works with choreographer Liam Francis, inspired by their lived experiences and relationships with food. These were performed in front of live projections created by the performers and designed by visual artist Hugo Dalton. The final film, directed by film maker Ruairi Watson and set to an original score by composer Andrew T. Mackay, is titled ‘Butter Arms’ - a name inspired by one of the dance gestures devised by participants.
The project was inspired by Christopher Wheeldon’s Like Water for Chocolate - the choreographer’s latest full-length work, based on Laura Esquivel’s captivating novel of the same name. The ballet tells the story of Tita, whose emotions spill out through cooking to influence everyone around her in startling and dramatic ways.

0:22 I’m pretty sure she said “macarrão”, the Portuguese word for pasta in general, not only the tube-shaped one that according to Cambridge dictionary is the meaning of Macaroni. Can this word be used in English for any kind of pasta as well?
