Joe's and Jason's best shows are often not when they are covering particular albums or rating all the albums of a particular band, but when they do these outside-the-box shows. Bad Company is 70s butt rock or "proto butt rock" and they were obviously a influence on hair metal which is 80s butt rock. A 2000s butt rock band covering 70s butt rock isnt some sacred thing IMO. Wikipedia says Tori Amos covered that song live. Why ? Must have been done as a joke like when she covered Slayer.
I had to watch this twice in a row because it was so good. Even more than Joe’s hatred, it’s Joe’s exasperation with so many horrible covers that just made my day.
“Blue Monday” must be in my top 10 favorite songs ever written. Orgy’s cover is no slouch. (The late 90s were weird times.) You can trace so many of my favorite artists by following New Order’s lineage back to their influences and forward to their protégés.
Good song. I don't have a song or artist to trace lineage but there must be a lot of outlaws there. That's so cool that you do - I'd ask but I think I might not know so many of your favs. I'm sure you know the title of the New Order song is taken from a Vonnegut novel and refers to the idea that a washing machine would improve women's lives .. and cause hell to men's. Following and preceding your mind would be a fantastic voyage; punk to dance and dance to punk in a vicious washing machine cycle. Donna Summer's 'Love to Love You Baby' can clear this up, as I can't. Sorry if this comes off rude; it's never my intention or inattention, but I should apologize, preceding and following everything I write to you but you are chosen because you have a singularly liberated and kind mind. You might stand a good chance to follow where my mind goes without offense; just playful fashion without substance with an unloaded gun, my friend. Psychedelic Furs. 😁 😊

I haven't heard most of these covers, but with the exception of Elton John and Bowie I am not a fan of any of the artists on this list. When I think of bad covers the first one that comes to mind is Guns N' Roses cover of Knocking On Heaven's Door. I also think Axl Rose is one of the worst singers I've ever heard, kind of a cross between a psychotic grandmother and the cat she is frying on the stove. Granted it's not Dylan's best tune, but it was written for the film Pat Garrett and Billy The Kid and works well in that context. My second choice is Higher Ground by The Red Hot Chili Peppers. Cannot stand either group. I'll amend that statement; members of both bands have done good work elsewhere, but their singers drive me up the wall. And many of the RHCP lyrics are a laugh riot.
I only know that Disturbed cover because a couple of skaters have skated to it. Figure Skaters sure need to listen to more rock music. So much Coldplay, Muse, and Queen as of late.
@@HeelSection3825 On Howard Stern, he praised Disturbed’s cover of the track, saying that he “liked it very much … it was accomplished very well,” and that he reached out to Disturbed’s David Draiman after it was released to tell him how much he liked it. I enjoyed this and agreed with almost everything you did here EXCEPT Bowie's cover of God Only Knows. The musical tracks are processed Muzak and his vocals sound like cheap imitation karaoke. Dreadful. Joe not wanting to even bother to explain Maroon 5's cover made me laugh out loud.

The worst two covers of all time have to be Behind blue eyes by Limp Bizkit and Johnny B Goode by Judas Priest. And though not on any LP, the live version of You shook me all night long by Céline Dion is about as awful.
Not a big fan of Disturbed but I think their cover of Sound of Silence is fantastic. It does a good job of reflecting the sinister Big Brother message of the song.

Am I the only one who had some weird ‘crow’ Mandela effect with the Big Yellow Taxi cover and always thought it was Cheryl Crow, not Vanessa Carlton as the guest vocal?
I knew it from the Now… That’s What I Call Music chart hits compilations we have in the UK. Only Counting Crows song I knew back in the day… I think it was just child me merging Counting Crows and Cheryl Crow into one crow themed group. As soon as you said Vanessa Carlton I was like, oh yeah, of course it’s her. Weird.
It’s always fun to talk about bad music! I’ve only heard four of these covers, so I’m gonna have to have a listening party…. Or maybe not. I do, however, wholeheartedly agree with Jason‘s take on Pearl Jam’s Last Kiss!
Other atrocities: "Video Killed The Radio Star" by The Presidents Of The United States Of America and "Come On Eileen" by Save Ferris. Why? Say what you want about the originals but they are uncoverable. Also, what is your take on Weezer's cover of "Africa" (not quite as horrific but I still ask "why"?).
I enjoy a good cover song that does something fresh & interesting, but it does seem like the vast majority are lame filler. I'll leave the modern stuff to you guys since I stopped following music closely in the late 90's. Pat Boone's perversion of "Tutti-Frutti" has to be heard to be believed. I really like CCR but their take of "I Heard It Through the Grapevine" just goes on FOREVER! Here's one for Jason, Sid Vicious version of "My Way". No doubt I'm forgetting some, but it does kind of seem that bad cover songs are more prevalent over the last 20-25 years than before. Poor writing and the unwillingness of the music industry to take a chance probably has something to do with it.
Have to say I agree with Jason: really enjoy “Last Kiss” by Pearl Jam. Can’t deny some Eddy Vedder. A somewhat guilty pleasure, but I do like it. Fun list. Cheers, JPE
I didnt like Last Kiss because musically and lyrically it didnt fit Pearl Jam at all. They totally went out of their comfort zone which is fine but as a PJ fan I didnt want that at the time. I mean even a song like Black which is their "sappy ballad" still isnt as sappy as Last Kiss.
So many bad covers. William Shatners cover of Rocket Man isn't here.... probably because it could be the greatest cover of all time! We might see him on your next tier list then?
I'm fine when a bad cover enters the kitsch zone, like Shatner, or Sebastian Cabot reciting Dylan. Most of these covers are by musicians who sound like what happens when a casting agent is looking to form a generic band for a club scene in a bad action film.
As far as I’m concerned nyone covering AC/DC should get an entry on this list by default. I’ve never heard a good cover of any if their songs. Someone please prove me wrong.
Negative points to anyone that doesn't put their own spin on the original. For that matter "American Woman" and "Sweet child of mine" covers are not that bad. Like, Sheryll Crow trying to sound like Axel Rose? That's gonna be awful.

Hall and Oates: You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling (talk about a phoned-in performance) Eurythmics: Wrap It Up (sucks all of the soul out of the original---sticks out like a sore thumb on the otherwise great Sweet Dreams album) Bette Midler: Wind Beneath My Wings (love Bette, but this is an abomination......................and what's with the vocal aerobics toward the end? Will never understand how this crap became a #1 hit! For a MUCH better version of this beautiful song, check out Gary Morris's version from '83 and stick with that!) Luther Vandross: Superstar (Luther was very talented, but he took this Carpenters classic, slowed it down, and turned it into a good cure for insomnia....................and did it REALLY need to be a little over 9 min. long??) Maxwell: This Woman's Work (this is a song written by a woman (Kate Bush), about a woman, for a woman. So why the hell is Maxwell covering it? He sounds like he's got part of his anatomy stuck in a vise) Annie Lennox: No More I Love You's (love Annie but to say she didn't do this forgotten classic justice would be an understatement.................the original is beautiful, sad and haunting but her cover is a soulless snorefest)
I'm no fan of Disturbed but that cover of SOS is exceptional - giving credit where credit is due. The overexposure to it is the problem. People just got really sick of it fast because it was everywhere.
Mmm buttrock... the worst genre of music ever? Yeh. Out of those covers... I can't believe I am saying this... I think Limp Biskit is the best (of the buttrock not the entire list). He's also done crappy covers of Dancing in the Street, Stagger Lee and The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore. Neil, stick to originals.
His Stagger Lee is ok. His version of Both Sides Now beats Joni’s imo. But yeah originals are better for sure.
@@porkins74 Forgot about Both Sides Now! That's actually a good one---another one I actually like is Everybody's Talkin'. Guess he's kind of hit and miss when it comes to covers, on second thought!
One point to Jason for defending The Guess Who and another for the comment that any cover from Five Finger Death Punch goes straight to "S".
Marilyn Manson's cover of Sweet Dreams is a masterpiece.
One of his best videos too!
Joe's and Jason's best shows are often not when they are covering particular albums or rating all the albums of a particular band, but when they do these outside-the-box shows. I guess an upcoming show could be best covers.
Last Kiss is a good cover, and I am not a fan of Pearl Jam. Life is a Highway is not a good cover, thanks to the "funny sounding" vocals (right, Jason); Trivium's cover of REM couldn't be worse.
The Madonna cover is the absolute worst. The song is a protest to the loss of innocence in popular music. Nobody in history contributed more to that loss than Madonna and she seems to have completely missed that point.
I didn't know about the Brett Michaels one. Now I have to torture myself with it.
You should do a tier list of musicians turned actors. Or perhaps, the other way around. You do you. 😊
Disregarding songs that suck no matter who performs them, and since you already cited Kravitz:
Long Tall Sally - Pat Boone (or whichever cynical, soulless Pat Boone cover)
Angels - Jessica Simpson
Can't Help Falling In Love - UB40
Sympathy For the Devil - Guns N Roses
Sweet Jane - Cowboy Junkies

american woman is also covered by heavy metal band krokus , i kinda like it , the band was doing their ac/dc impression at the time lol

What about American Woman by the Buttholes Surfers ?
Joe looking more handsome every day
You know how to get a like from him 😂
I had to watch this twice in a row because it was so good.

@@michelewiese48 Yeah you are right, I have others but I do mention these two a lot. What do they have in common? Both...
grew up in the tundra/ are somewhat reclusive :) / Neil abuse drugs and Paul alcohol/ important band members die due to substance abuse/ write music from the heart :) / are equally comfortable playing rock, folk, blues, country / they do cover songs/ not one of my girlfriends liked either, much less both/ don't release albums with the sole purpose of pleasing fans / write very personal and introspective songs :)/ are known to wear flannel / get blamed for inspiring "grunge" /have messy hair/ have outlaw lineage /have me as their only common fan. :)

I will remind you two that Paul Simon himself liked that cover of The Sound of Silence.
Do you know the Nevermore version ? Its a metal version of it.
@@Chaz4543 haven't heard it
I only know that Disturbed cover because a couple of skaters have skated to it. Figure Skaters sure need to listen to more rock music. So much Coldplay, Muse, and Queen as of late.
I'm sure he was just being polite. There's NO WAY he liked that crap!
@@HeelSection3825 On Howard Stern, he praised Disturbed’s cover of the track, saying that he “liked it very much … it was accomplished very well,” and that he reached out to Disturbed’s David Draiman after it was released to tell him how much he liked it.
I believe his words, that he genuinely liked it. Millions of people do.
When i heard the cover of Behind Blue Eyes i was disappointed that half the song was missing.
Jason, an absolute TITAN of horrible Beatles covers, in my opinion, is a band called Underground Sunshine doing "Birthday". It was actually a minor hit single in 1969 and it is so stiff and corny. It almost sounds like a joke. Check it out next time you're in the mood to hate.

The worst two covers of all time have to be Behind blue eyes by Limp Bizkit and Johnny B Goode by Judas Priest. And though not on any LP, the live version of You shook me all night long by Céline Dion is about as awful.
Good video boys…surprised to not see “Shock the Monkey” by Coal Chamber and Ozzie on here
someone reassure me that disturbed's awful version of sounds of silence is on here bc i'm not seeing it
When do we get Joe's full Judas Priest song ranking ? lol
Not a big fan of Disturbed but I think their cover of Sound of Silence is fantastic. It does a good job of reflecting the sinister Big Brother message of the song.
It also does a good job of sounding like it's being sung by a guy with a mouth full of marbles, and through one of those voice disguisers that you hear on TV. Absolute CRAP!
@@HeelSection3825 I'm not hearing what you're hearing. But you just described most of the music on Billboard's Hot 100.

Lot of badness on that. 😂
I think that my vote for the worst cover song of all time is The Sound of Silence by Disturbed. It sounds like the guy's voice is going through one of those voice disguisers that you hear on TV. BEYOND HORRID!!!
Since the band was mentioned in this video: does anyone else think that Five Finger Death Punch is THE STUPIDEST name for a band EVER!?! I mean, they might has well have called themselves "We're REALLY Cool, Huh? Come On! PLEASE Tell Us We're Cool!"
Kill Switch Engage is RIGHT UP THERE, too! Look, we GET it. You REALLY want people to think you're cool.
when you cover Elton, Joni be careful. Elton hated his own cover; you’d expect Paris’ cover to be total CAMP! Joe, keep that beard tight that I got lost in Appalachia for 13 years no bueno😂
Bono covering Hallelujah might be the worst of the worst. Bono pseudo rapping Leonard Cohen
Am I the only one who had some weird ‘crow’ Mandela effect with the Big Yellow Taxi cover and always thought it was Cheryl Crow, not Vanessa Carlton as the guest vocal?
Sheryl Crow sang on their single American Girls. Maybe that's where the confusion lies? -Jason
I do, however, wholeheartedly agree with Jason‘s take on Pearl Jam’s Last Kiss!
agree. Discussions about songs people hate are more interesting than ones about great songs.
The Weezer cover wasn't horrific, just pointless. Why cover a song if you're not going to make it your own, or put some kind of spin on it?
Rule: don't cover us Canadians .. unless it's Nickelback, our gift to you.
I love solo McCartney and Wings, but not their version of " Mary Had A Little Lamb " - insipid!
Is Joe related to the Stirewalt dude that’s on Pittsburgh tv?
Steigerwald. And yes. - Joe
Pearl Jam is my favorite band. And I can't stand Last Kiss. The fact that it's literally their biggest hit is sad and hilarious.
I volunteer Simple Man by Shinedown for S tier!
As far as I’m concerned nyone covering AC/DC should get an entry on this list by default. I’ve never heard a good cover of any if their songs. Someone please prove me wrong.
Can’t say you’re wrong. - Joe
Negative points to anyone that doesn't put their own spin on the original. For that matter "American Woman" and "Sweet child of mine" covers are not that bad. Like, Sheryll Crow trying to sound like Axel Rose? That's gonna be awful.
I’m a huge Beach Boys fan, but their cover of Crocodile Rock is beyond lame. The video doesn’t help it either.
Far as that album, Kate Bush's Rocket Man is even worse!
The worst cover song of all time is Will to Power's mashup of "Freebird/I Love Your Way", if only for the weak male vocal alone.
I just HATE how they turned 2 classic songs into a boring and sappy ballad! (And how the hell did that crap hit #1??).

Luther Vandross: Superstar (Luther was very talented, but he took this Carpenters classic, slowed it down, and turned it into a good cure for insomnia....................and did it REALLY need to be a little over 9 min. long??)
Maxwell: This Woman's Work (this is a song written by a woman (Kate Bush), about a woman, for a woman. So why the hell is Maxwell covering it? He sounds like he's got part of his anatomy stuck in a vise)
Annie Lennox: No More I Love You's (love Annie but to say she didn't do this forgotten classic justice would be an understatement.................the original is beautiful, sad and haunting but her cover is a soulless snorefest)
