Wow, thank you so much for making me feel what my dog feels. Yes, we unfortunately sometimes use human rationality to explain canine behavior. My dog is a fearful/ anxious resource garder, 107 pound, 11 months bullmastiff.. I would so appreciate it if you could maybe talk about how to approach this situation in a future episode. I saw a few video where you presented this topic, but sitting with you in conversation with a dog trainer is just priceless.
OMG, that cycling story was awful. My husband and I (also in our 50s) were cyclists. We used to race. I don’t cycle anymore as I have 2 malinois and that’s a lot of work for me, but he still rides. And that story gives me chills. Stuff like that would happen to us once in a while. It’s terrifying. After my cycling accident (in a race) i had very bad PTSD on the bike. So i can understand how that triggered you for a while. People can be awful. My female malinois is super social dog with people and dogs and very submissive. My male puppy malinois has a lot of stranger/danger people issues, that I’ve been working. My trainer had him this month to help out by giving him a lot of “pictures” of strangers coming/going into the facility while she worked him. She also worked him in a variety of environments/stores/parks etc. He’s a lot better and much easier to work with now but he still gets a little worked up so we’ll keep working on it for a while. I’m really sorry that happened to you. I enjoy your channel. Hooligan is such a love bug. My female malinois is a lot like him in temperament.
LOVE Malinois as I had several and a DS as well. They are more my speed than a bulldog-:). Thanks for your message and sharing about your dog. Glad you got your male the help he needed to lead a more stable life. Thanks for tuning in! I’m sorry to read about your crash - it can be harrowing. I was hit by a pickup last summer and my bike (nearly body too) was shattered. Btw - I still ride and ride more than ever - did a 200 miler last Saturday and crushed it - that one event/person ain’t stealing my joy! Take care.
@@Mtldogtrainerfamilyk9 yes, they are definitely my speed too. I had a high drive GSD first, and my second dog was a Siberian husky. I love working dogs, and as much as I love huskies, my lifestyle tends to prefer the herding dogs. I wanted a female Dutch shepherd next, but i couldn’t find one in rescue. I tend to rescue because I’m not a heavy sport dog person, tho i train as if i am competing in them. I’m also no stranger to reactivity. My GSD had pretty heavy dog reactivity and mild people reactivity (in our home only). I could have handled my male puppy’s reactivity but I just had too much on my plate this month and I really like my trainer and how she works dogs, and she’s titled in several protection sports. So i just decided it would be more efficient if she did some work with him for 4 weeks. I really love her facility, she keeps them enriched with pack socialization, tread mills, field trips to stores, parks, etc. She did a really nice job mellowing him out and he’s a lot more confident now. It just really freed me up to work his toy drive in public now and not have to constantly work reactivity. I live in rural environment and it would have been a lot of driving on my part to work his confidence in public. People have remarked that he is so much looser now, not so wound up. And by the end of his stay, I could see he really liked being there. And that made me happy. I’m really careful about who i let work with my dog(s). It’s usually no more than 3-5 people outside my family (pet sitter, vets, trainers). I once had a guy watching me play with my female malinois at a park and he wanted to throw the ball for her. I’m like, um, no. These dogs are not for random people who don’t understand that they will mow you down to get their toy and you better know how to take a punch if you present the toy improperly!!! So ya, nobody plays with them unless they know what they’re doing. I’m glad you still ride, 200 miles is crazy. Most I ever did was 100 in a day but i did a few stage races and a few 24 hour races (on a team). Stay safe!

Very interesting perspective, i will think of that with our aussie.
Sorry you had to go through that
Thank you for helping me understand my dog I feel so bad for him when he gets reactive I don't know how to help him.
