  • 4-20 mA Transmitter Wiring:
    Types: 2-Wire & 4-Wire
    4-wire Transmitter connection:
    The transmitter and control panel use separate power supplies. The 4-20mA signal flows through two separate cable cores between the transmitter and control panel.
    2-wire Transmitter connection:
    This configuration supplies power and 4-20mA signal over a two wire loop connection between the transmitter and the control panel.

    If you need conect 3 wire sensor to PLC that have 4 or 2 wire connection, try connect like 4wire connection and I- connect to ground

      Normally DC power is provided by the internal power bus. But some modules allow external 24V DC power.

      The two wire Transmitter are much better than four wire transmitters.
      two wire transmitter is powered by the same 2 wires that carry the 4-20 mA signal.
      The two wires are commonly used because we can save money in cable as the copper wires are more expensive.
      Two wire transmitters are safer than four wire transmitter for the PLC.
      4 wire transmitter is powered by a pair of wires (24 VDC typically) and the 4-20 mA signal goes in another pair of wire.
      If the device consumes more power than 4-20 mA, then you have to go to the 4 wire transmitter option. (Like Magnetic Flow meters)

      In order to change mA (current) to voltage, you need to pass the current through a resistor.
      The formula for voltage is:
      V = IR
      V stands for volts, I stands for current (amps), and R stands for resistance (ohms)
      -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
      In control circuits, the most common resistor value is 500Ω, although any value can be used depending upon the device.
      If your control circuit is using a 500Ω resistor:
      1 mA = 0.001 AMP
      mA : Amps x Resistance : Volts
      4 : 0.004 x 500Ω : 2
      8 : 0.008 x 500Ω : 4
      12 : 0.012 x 500Ω : 6
      16 : 0.016 x 500Ω : 8
      20 : 0.020 x 500Ω : 10

      It is very simple, just connect the VFD output positive wire with (+) of the PLC module and the VFD output negative wire with (-) of the PLC module.

      in short - 2-wire Transmitter: Uses only two wires. While 4-wire Transmitter: Requires additional cable cores.
      4-wire Transmitter: Requires a separate power supply for transmitter and controller.
      2-wire Transmitter: Less cost as compared to 4-wire.

      Connect the Positive wire of the Transmitter to the channel of 1734-IE8C (analog input Module).
      And negative wire of transmitter connect to the (-V) of SMPS. because there is no common terminal in 1734-IE8C (Analog Input Module).
      Connect Auxiliary power supply separately.
      in this way we can wire the 4 wire transmitter wiring for such plc Analog Input module like 1734-IE8C
      I hope you understand the 4 wire transmitter wiring for 1734-IE8C Analog Input Module.
