One gets a swiss passport (or/and a swiss ID) when one applies and gets the swiss citizenship (i.e. upon 10 years in CH or 5 years due to marriage (the condition is 5 yrs in CH, 3 yrs married)), so what difference do you mean really? This is one process. PR is not a swiss passport, but the right to stay "permanently", it has nothing to do with the swiss citizenship.

She separates three subjects nicely: citizenship, passport (a travel document for citizens), permanent residence (the right to live and stay there) that’s all. And btw, you don’t get a passport (in any country) just because you become a citizen. It’s a travel document which you don’t have to posses but you can apply for it in local police station. Many Americans or Italians do not have a passport. I appreciate somebody doesn’t talk: applying for a Swiss passport (and they mean for a citizenship). Have a nice day.

I am also non-EU, came to switzerland to work for a big Swiss company, and at the end of the first 5 years with a B permit, I expected them to ask me to apply for another 5 years, but they just sent me a letter inviting me to go to the local council office to collect my C permit. I did not have to do anything to apply for it. But this was in 2008.
Switzerland is logical. You had a good job for 5 years and paid taxes and all the other stuff and have no debts, than you get c permit or citizenship without a struggle. Of course there is a little difference for EU and non EU.

I'm from London and just realised I can get Irish citizenship through my grandparents, seriously considering moving there! It's so serene and beautiful. The C permit is called " never leave permit " restrictions are - you are not required to do military service ( if you are young ) and not vote, but you can buy property, if you leave the country for more then two years then you lose the permit.
The biggest difference between B and C permit is tax level (lower for C) plus you can buy a property and rent it (b can buy for purpose of living in it). Additionally C perm and citizens need to file their taxes. With B permit you renew it each 5 years, not one year.
Thanks for the video Olivia. I have a C permit but I am thinking of moving abroad for 4 years for work. I want to 'freeze' the C permit for 4 years then come back to Switzerland. I don't think it is guaranteed that the government will approve my request, but I think it is likely...
I believe you have to live in Switzerland in total of 10 years in order to apply. And depending on the municipal you are living in they can be super strict with the citizenship. Some let the whole town/ municipal vote upon you. Western part of Switzerland is known to be less strict by giving out citizenships.

Congrats on the C-Permit I wonder now what the difference is when the partner is a Swiss citizen. Oh and one hint, yes you have Asian looks, but then again, one of my frens is Black, and he's about as Swiss as it gets, hell he is either speaking in his Swiss dialect or English. So looks are very desieveing. But I can understand why you'd prefer to keep the Singaporean citizanship over the Swiss on 🙂
If ones spouse is a Swiss Citizen one receives the C permit after five years of living in Switzerland and is entitled to Swiss citizenship provided the marriage is still "intact"😅

I studied in Singapore. I worked for 3 diff companies. I changed companies not because I quit, but each time I was laid off and had to find a new job.

with C permit - you may have the right to come back, but you have to prove your connection to Switzerland (eg., a swiss husband, a job contract, etc.)

You have one year to find a new job with unemployment insurance and after that u will have to leave if u still can’t find a job.
