Real Families: Diving Deep Into Same-Sex Adoption Realities

  • According to the United States Department of Health and Human Services, on September 30, 2012, there were an estimated 399,546 children in foster care in the United States. These are children who are in need of loving homes. There are already more than enough same-sex couples that have the means and compassion to raise and care for these children right now.
    Finding Life is a documentary that follows several couples through the process of fostering and caring for children in need. We talk with same sex couples that are just beginning their journey through the foster care program and those that have already successfully completed the process.
    We follow these modern American families to give you an intimate look into their lives. From the legal processes that both current and potential foster parents must go through to the minutiae of daily life, we cover these families in great detail with the aim of bringing their stories into sharper focus for our audience.
    While the gay rights movement advanced greatly over the past few years, there are actually still some places in the U.S. where same sex couples are unable to become foster parents. Finding Life will also investigate these places to find out why this is still the case so far into the 21st century.
    We hope to highlight the belief that it doesn’t matter whether you are gay, straight, black or white. There are real children here in the United States right this second that are in need of a loving family. We hope to show that it’s not as difficult as some might think to open your heart and your home. To give back, while, at the same time, gaining so much. Finding Life is about more than gay couples finding children to love and care for, it’s about how multiple lives are being changed forever. You will see these couples searching for a better life and finding whole new lives in the process.
    Real Families brings you stories of modern day family life from around the world through the eyes of children, parents, and parenting experts.

    So bottom line is more people need to be willing to take in older children with emotional "baggage". They need the most help and have the least amount of options

    Been with my wife eight years. We’re both teachers and I’m a landlord and we still can’t afford it. We can afford to raise a child just fine. We just can’t afford the adoption process. They are now charging the same as college tuition for a degree. It’s just not ethical practice to charge so much and force an extreme paywall that middle class families can’t reasonably reach over.

    It always surprises me how little experience many parents have with children before they become parents, smh. So many parents (straight esp) have no clue how to be one. Classes would definitely be beneficial.

    • @s-truth
      @s-truth 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The best class for potential parents is a mum and dad who are married and love their kids. Actions speak louder than words and any kid knows if they are loved or not.
      I read the story of a visiting missionary in the Philippines. He was taken to visit a family of mum and dad and two pre teen boys. They lived in a one room shack next to a rubbish dump with no water, heat or electricity.
      The boys went to the tip each day to see if they could find anything they could sell. The missionary was amazed at how happy the boys were. The resident missionary told him the secret. Although they had nothing, they knew that mum and dad loved them and would do any thing for them.
      There is the secret for successful parenthood. The main problem with western nations is that we think that successful parenting involves things when the fact is NOTHING can replace the love of a mum and dad.

    • @s-truth
      @s-truth 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sateIIitepilot The greatest parents I have known as opposed to those I have heard of, were the mums and dads of the students I taught as a teacher of senior students.
      It was a pleasure to teach them as they were very stable and secure and we had a great relationship. We treated each other with respect and I was able to get the best out of them to enable them to gain very high marks in the subjects I taught.
      I was interested in them as people, not just as people who were students who had to submit to my teaching them. Their problems were my problems and my door was always open to them.
      Because they were so stable and secure, they were not afraid to confide in me and ask my advice. I did not look down on them and they appreciated this.
      I would suggest that if you want to make definitive statements about parents the best thing to do is ignore those that you have heard of and concentrate on those you know.
      In addition, I have a degree in Social Science where the main course of study was family and children in all its shapes and sizes so I am happy to pull rank on you unless you have gone one better.

      Of course it does because research shows that a child does best when raised by their biological parents, not by homosexuals.

    • @s-truth
      @s-truth 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ellaalister1728 I am sorry but research is NEVER based on anecdotal evidence. You cannot present anything reliable on the basis of one persons experience. There are exceptions to every rule but they do not make the rule.
      Having a degree in Sociology I know what I am talking about. I got that degree because I presented evidence from lots of sources, not just one person's personal experience.
      As a teacher, I can present to you a list of families where the parents were NOT drug addicted, were not drunks, were not abusive as are 95% of parents. Those sort of parents are a very small minority. In all my 79 years on earth, I have only come across ONE abusive parent. Other than that one. no child in my school was abused.
      Apart from the fact that research shows over and over and over and over again that a child does best when raised by their biological parents.
      Sociologists accept that as a fact of life.
      So I suggest you take your blinkers off and come into the real world of the majority. That way you will find out the truth, not your jaundiced version of it.

    We can all pretend that it fine but trust me it is not I lived on the first floor of a 3family with 2gay men that adopted a young boy ever day when I came home from work I would see the poor boy crying on the porch sobbing he would tell me with tears in his eyes that it's not wright and that he wanted to go back to the orphanage
    But didn't want to upset his 2 father's
    My heart broke for him, true story
