As a Greek I have to say Steve, you're an inspiration. I speak English, Spanish and now I'm getting into Italian. Congratulations because greek is not an easy language whatsoever.
But they're not that much different from ancient Greek. In fact we already speak ancient Greek. For example we now say νερό for water. In ancient Greek it was ύδωρ. But the ancient word still exists in most of the forms: υδραυλικός (plumber), υδρορροή ( water leak), υδροφόρος (water table). Ancient Greek is still alive!

Having long words does not make a language diffucult. On the contrary, short words are easy to confuse. For instance, a foreigner learning English will have to distinguish the words: cat, cut, cot, caught, kit, cute, kite, Kate, quote, quit etc. which are basically k and t with various vowels inbetween.

I agree with you to an extent, and disagree as well. When I tried to learn Romanian, which has a lot of very short, single-syllable words, I easily got them mixed up and it felt kind of "stuttery" to read them in the beginning as I lack the natural fluency. Greek does have the opposite problem though, as I occasionally stumble upon words that are SO long that I often find it hard to memorize them entirely, confusing and mixing them up that way instead. Because they sometimes get ridiculously long squeezing in 30 billion syllables into one word, even after repeating them 15 times, they still won't stick.

I started learning Russian about a month ago and I am loving it! I haven't been able to focus as much time on it because of school, but this summer I will be hitting it hard. I'm loving Russian!

Swolemean99 same here man! I started back in January, but school got busy around March so I've been on and off with it. But I'm getting back to it in a couple of weeks! Let me know if you want someone to chat to in Russian! It would help both of us.

CrispyXBL That's awesome! How much language experience do you have? I took Spanish two tears in high school, but taking it as a class like that prevented me from becoming motivated. I have no clue as to why, but I have always wanted to learn Russian. My interest in Russian culture in the language in general keeps me highly motivated. I am going to be attending a university in the fall and I have thought about picking up some Russian classes and maybe getting a minor in it.

Swolemean99 I took two years of Spanish in high school as well but it always seemed like a chore rather than opening a new door to new cultures. Like you, my interest for Russian seemed to spark out of nowhere and once I did I started watched a bunch of videos about Russian history, culture, and even just every day life. I hope to one day travel to St. Petersburg or Moscow. And if you can take a formal class at university, go for it! The university I am at doesn't have a Russian language class, just a Tsar and post-tsar Russian history classes, but I've been thinking about taking an online class for the Russian language from a university.

You replied to me a few months ago that you never said there would be 100 lessons for mini stories. Here's just 1 of the many times you've said it👍🏻

Could you do a video on or advice me on how to be able to understand foreign films without the foreign subtitles. I speak French more or less fluently, but I still find it very hard to understand films without French subtitles
