I live in Canada and our Winter lasts 6mos in a year. I really love the fact that I can even wear my pajamas under my winter jacket and pants to go out and no one will know. I can even skip brushing my hair because it will be covered with a toque anyway. 😂
Lauren, you crack me up. "You don't need a smokey eye to view the Northern Lights." 😂 I think we are all brainwashed to think, "I can't possily wear the same thing 2 days in a row!" But, in some cases, that makes absolutely no sense, so we need to change our mindset. P.S. I love the cap your aunt made for you!
When I first started watching the channel I thought I would be intimidated in that Lauren worked in hair/beauty. But so far not a problem. I've always braided my hair so that I have those curls and although I've never carried a flat iron or hair dryer I could appreciate it when Lauren admits she didn't use it!
@@ItsTheKellysyou have great hair then! I am lucky in that way too, and glad scrunchies are back in fad as I get great curls with a nightly topknot scrunching do! 😂
I think the best packing videos often include the lessons learned from previous trips and those snow boots were just asking for it! 😅 My go-to when I'm going to snowy areas but not necessarily getting on a snowboard is a low boot or shoe that is lightweight yet waterproof, a pair of gaiters to keep my ankles dry and I now prefer a set of YakTrax over microspikes because they pack even smaller. Regarding Merino wool. If people cringe at the price tag on a Merino wool t-shirt or other layering pieces I do recommend the lesser priced quick dry synthetic but if they try even one piece of Merino wool they'll realize it's even lighter-weight, you do not overheat, and Merino wool dries overnight much quicker than synthetic! *_PS.. I loved the sweater intervention graphic!_* I usually travel with one or two very lightweight rollable Merino sweaters and something chunkier. I once famously wore a chunky Nepalese sweater for ~ three months as I traveled through the Himalayas, the mideast, and into Europe!
Thanks for telling us how you like to pack for your trips to cold, snowy places. I haven’t seen the northern lights yet but have been on several cold winter trips with lots of snow. My husband is a fanatical skier so I have travelled with him for two months at a time to ski at resorts in the US and Europe. We usually move around often and I prefer a carryon sized bag because my 60 year old back struggles with a large bag. In fact, my husband’s bag is larger than mine. I need my snow boots on these trips as I’m not a skier and spend a lot of time outdoors walking. Space is at a premium in my carryon but there is no way I can wear my snow boots on the long flight from Australia. The way around this is to stuff my snow boots full of socks and underwear. I wrap each boot individually in a heavy duty plastic bag and place them in opposite corners of my bag. All my clothes are packed around and on top of my boots. My packing list for two months is not quite as minimal as yours but I tend to stick to around 13-14 items of clothing. I operate on the principle of 3 tops, 3 bottoms and 3 sweaters, 1 t-shirt, 1 nice blouse for dinners out and my exercise leggings and top. I also bring a swimsuit, beanie, gloves etc. My tops and sweaters are wool or cashmere. When you go inside it’s so hot that you need to strip off the layers so my thermals are decent looking tops that can be worn on their own or layered. My toiletries are kept to a minimum. All my liquids are decanted into small containers. I only bring small amounts and if need anything I can buy it overseas. My toiletries are in a clear toiletries bag and kept in my small backpack so I can get them out easily to go through security. I find I need to bring more stuff now than I did ten years ago but every item that goes in my bag is considered and essential. My extras now include vitamins, medication and a small covid kit, masks and hand sanitizer. In my backpack I take my iPad and phone and would be lost without them. I always seem to accumulate “stuff” when I travel and can usually stuff whatever I buy into my husband’s bag or can post things home, which I have done several times. Thanks again for another great travel video. I’d love to see you pack in a carryon for a two month trip to both hot and cold destinations such as a few days in Hawaii on the way to the snow.
I find it easier to pack for cold somehow! Maybe because you don’t get so sweaty or maybe because you’re wearing outerwear more and don’t feel like you need as many clothing changes? Or maybe because I come from a cold climate and it’s my comfort zone.
When I went to Tromso I got used to the weather in town and didn't use as many layers as I should have for the northern lights tour. The lights were right there and all I wanted was to go already so I could get warm.
I remembered what you said about merino wool, and picked up an undershirt and socks from Costco! Will definitely be using them on my upcoming Jan work trip to PA!
Yay! Love the new studio set up. We're preparing for our next winter snow trip. I'm hoping to pack our family of 5 into 3 carry on bags plus backpacks. Still in the test packing phase, so hopefully it works out. 🌺✈Heidi
Very eye opening !! When you said you wore those waterproof pants everyday ,I went 🙈Lol. Then you said the thing will be touching the pants are your thermal.I was like " Oh ! O.k. ,I guess that's not that bad !?" Then, saw you putting another pr of regular pants & 2 more prs of leggings ,I went " Phew !" Lol. So - good !! 👏👏👍👍You have very strikingly amazing eyes !! Like some actress do ! Nice !! You made those difficult colours looking nice on you ! So sweet of your aunt making those csps !!💜🥁🐉🎤🎶✈️✈️💞
There are many synthetic brands that are perfect for people allergic to wool. If you live near an REI you can go in and see their array of synthetic layering pieces. I've never known anyone allergic to wool but if you are are you sure you're allergic to Merino wool? I ask in that Merino wool tends to be very hypoallergenic.
@@IntriguedLionessI’m allergic to wool like the OP (also alpaca and cashmere, as was my paternal grandmother). I’ve found a good cotton/acrylic blend gives me the weight and warmth I need. I live in Chicago so dressing for winter weather is a must November-March.
I really loved seeing how you traveled last winter! Your IG was blowing up with so many awesome sites and tips! 🥰 Love your new space and you know I’m down for all the fashion help!
Hi Cathy, it was from Southern Soul Collectives! (I showed their clothes in my European Cruise packing video!) That shirt is sold out now, but maybe they have some other styles you may like!
I live rhe new studio! Where are thise two hats from? Yes, You do not need a different sweater for everyday especially if you are wearing a big ass coat, you can't see whats underneath anyway! I want to go to Antarctica so bad, we travel fulltime with our 9 year old and I think she would be bored, so we are waiting a few years.
Well, the one hat was homemade and the other hat was purchased in Tromso from a local wool shop! Antarctica itself was so fun, but the cruise could be a little boring for a youngster. It was a lot of science lectures.
Literally just booked a trip to Norway to see the Northern Lights next year. My husband and I were laughing saying you must be listening in!!😂😂😂😂😂 Fabulous video....really trying hard to follow your principles....hopefully I will be an expert by the time we get to Tromso!!!!
Yay! I have a few videos from my time there, if you’re curious! You will love it! Be sure to book a northern light excursion every night. I did three nights and only saw them one night.
Hello! Most of these packing videos have things from my own wardrobe, which means some of the pieces are old. That sweater is from Old Navy, and is probably 1-3 years old.
I love your vids and have packing lighter myself! What do you do when sweaters and clothes start inevitably smelling from traveling and being in a suitcase. I’m all for wearing things more than once but it’s hard when you don’t have access to a washer/dryer. Thanks!
I've never travelled more than 2.5 weeks before, but I have to say that I haven't experienced that with most clothes. I do unpack when I get to my destination, and take them out of their cubes as soon as I can. I have used dryer sheets before as well! I often wash socks and underwear if needed, and if I don't rewear, I put them in a laundry bag, seperate.
Can you move to North Dakota and be my friend please? 😂 But for real. You have inspired me. I'm flying Allegiant to Nashville next week and I'm going carry on + personal item for 7 days. Normally I would bring my big checked bag too. Cross your fingers for me!
