I have seen a couple different approaches to a spindle lock on this style of mill, even seen some kits sold. Most of them are very much in the way and inconvenient. This one is nice, I also like the safety switch. My solution is a bit different, I didn't use the flats on the spindle, but I did use the safety circuit from the original shield. Mine mounts at the end of the quill, so the lock works with the spindle in any position. It actually replaces the factory ring that mounts the bottom of the quill DRO.

    Hi,
I have made the spindle lock, works very well. My question is how did you wire the microswitch, as there are 4 wires going to the microswitch but you only have 2?

Hi, when I removed the safety guard, yes there was 4 wires. For the machine to work without any switches, 2 wires are joined together and the remaining 2 wires are joined together. When you want to include a switch you simply choose either of the two sets of joined wires and un join them and use those two wires to connect a micro switch. Let me know if this helps, if you're still not sure I can do a short video just to show you how I dealt with the 4 wires.

Hi, re the wiring. Instead of joining wires I used 2 microswitchs instead of 1. I just extended the 4 existing wires to the 2 microswitchs. Works like beauty.

I love the idea and the job you have done on it. What size material did you use?

Thanks for your positive feedback. I'm enjoying it, gets a lot of use, makes tool changing a pleasure to do.
The spanner is made from 10mm flat bar, the 2 piece mounting bracket is made from 50mm X 12mm flat bar and I used 16mm plate to make the guide the spanner slides in.
