Cheers from the void! Glad to know Pipewire isn't too complicated to setup. I've been using a mix of pulseaudio and alsa for as long as I can remember, so this might be the final step that pushes me to try it out
It's ok, it works well, I don't think i would have switched if I didn't have the hyprland setup, pulseaudio was working great for me. That being said it is fun to try new things.
I just used your video to install pipewire. Starting from the base ISO. You need to install pulseaudio to get the config file to edit. You can remove pulseaudio and the config remains on the drive. Thanks for another great video.
Not sure what the equivalent for wayland is, but for those running Xorg stuff you can use the xinit file to start the pipewire, wireplumber, and the alsa/ pulse equivalents across any desktop environment/ window manager. Nice to not have to remember to add it to your DE/ WMs specific conf if you switch a lot. Void is great though and ive had zero problems based on the handbook install guide.
This was really helpful for the last piece of the puzzle for me, I needed to have pulseaudio installed to get the config files, but when I removed the package the config files went away too. Thanks!
Would you be willing to do a tutorial of how to package and submit a pull request to Void Linux for those of us who want to learn how to contribute to update/maintain software (for example... Gnome 45)?
Nice, thank you very much! I'm always glad when Void Linux gets some love. Would you ever do a video of 'Void-mklife'? With these scripts you can create your own Void iso. Since you (and me as well) are on a Wayland compositor there should be some perks tonget it running. Maybe this is Something that you are interested in too. Thanks again for your tutorials, they are super good!❤
Thank you ao much Jake If you can please try these steps in a clean base install, some steps will be missing and it won't work as flawlessly as it did with you. I almost gave up on void because the instructions ln the handbook are confusing, and the change from pipewire-media-session to wireplumber has rendered most of the info in the forums online obsolete!
@@JakeLinux Thanks a lot man, you motivated me to switch to Qtile a while ago and I found home in it, and you are almost done motivating me to switch to Void! I appreciate your channel so much, thanks a lot.
I spent all day of trying to install and setup pipewire on void. never ever seen more errors as today. I ended up with rebooting my system and the system not finding a kernel.. void is even more pain in the ass than arch to me.
That sucks, Im not trying to sound like a jerk but I have never had the audio issues people keep talking about on void. I'm sorry your experience was that bad.
Don't feel bad, I've followed tutorial after tutorial to the letter and have only gotten audio to work in a runit environment one time but I can't remember if it was Voir or Artix, I deleted the vm and forgot how I did it. 😖
Great video - almost got into pipewire when I couldn't get sound working on two machines. Question: I've looked on your github page but can't seem to find the files needed (or tutorial) to add the void symbol and ~ >> to the prompt. Is it simple?
It is simple to add them, just make sure you have nerd fonts (icons) installed. The chevrons and void logo can be found on the nerd font cheet sheet webpage. Then just add them to your PS1 variable in your .bashrc. or if you have them installed already and want to, you can just copy my PS1 from my .bashrc in my bash git repo.
Very helpfull video. Can you show us how to install void linux without elogind and setuping automount ? Official documentation is not very helpfull. Thanks! Also a problem exist is with cursors and gtk-qt environments. I stick with standard cursor not only because i like it but because i had issues with wm's like icewm, fvwm e.t.c
My biggest concern on Void is policykit. I don't know how to enable it so I can access to Trash and my other hard drives on computer. On Arch and Debian I don't have those problems only on Void
@@JakeLinux The service runs but nothing happends. Trash can and other hard drives are not shown in my file manager. I usually use Pcmanfm but tried other file managers too. Tried both lxpolkit and gnome-polkit with polkitd service enabled but nothing happends. Gvfs, udisks2 and ntfs-3g packages are installed also.
@@JakeLinux From tty, polkit path I place in my wm autostart file. As I said on Arch and Debian I don't have problems only with Void. Maybe I'm missing some service to enable as Void is using runit init instead of systemd

Glad to see another Void video. 🎉 I look forward to seeing your videos.
Figure it was about time to get back to void content.

Thanks for the heads up on pulseaudio, I will make a note of that.
Wow, I'm struggling exactly with this. It's like you made this video for me
Was this able to help you out?
OMG THANK YOU! I could never get pipewire working so I moved back to arch, this is so helpful, your videos mean so much

Great vid thanks! I really missed the Void stuff :)
Thank you, me too, good to get back to void content, just want to be careful not to pigeon hole myself to being only void content.

Great video as always.

Client.conf is missing on etc pulse in my case, any idea why could it be?
I did a base install of Void and I didn't have it either. I installed the pulseaudio package and it provided the client.conf file.
You can remove pulseaudio after installing it. The config file that was needed will remain.
Thank you, got it

Hey Jake Would you be willing to do a tutorial how to install TeamViewer, to work on voidlinux

I just install pipewire and sof-firmware and it works, now i wonder if doing that can cause problems in the future 🤔
That's awesome, if it works, it works, I'd take the win and deal with any possible problems if they arise.
