When, in the late 90s, the arcade in a nearby mall was closing down, they had a Galaga machine available for $100. I still kick myself that I didn't buy it.
@@LyonsArcade it never did continuous fire for me holding down the button Maybe there is a dip switch ? Which chip has to be swapped out ? Is it just a chip or does the chip.need programming ?
I love this game, but I remember this as a kid and I still remember growing up with this game. This game is way better than "Phoenix" and "Galaxian". This game is a way to go.
Joe's Classic Video Games Don't blame yourself. You IMHO did very well from what I just saw now in this video...and you're right, putting yourself in a corner will do nothing but set yourself up for destruction from those critters.
I just checked ... "Warblade" is the PC version name. www.warblade.as/index.asp Galaga on Amiga was so great - IS great to play. If you have a chance to play it on an Amiga, try it out ;) There is also a legal way to get it: deluxegalaga.com/download-area/ This is my Arcade cabinet a68k.de/galerie/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=33 (sorry in german ... google translate ... translate.google.de/translate?hl=&sl=de&tl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Fa68k.de%2Fgalerie%2Fviewtopic.php%3Ff%3D2%26t%3D33 ... but goole translation is horrible) I get it for low price many many years ago, the crt was not good anymore, no game board, parts missing. So I build in an c64, an Atari 7800 (plays also Atari 2600 games, has build in Asteroids), and a small PC with MAME and Warblade. (mh... I need to make a demonstration video...) One day, an Amiga also has to get in the cabinet :D
Those are some weird glitches. Attract mode, the ship phased through a few shots and the bug, then the boss Galaga died, despite the ship already having stopped spinning (Unless it was frame perfect, but the game is supposed to send the ship back down if the boss Galaga is shot on the way down. The game I guess didn't know how to handle it, and since there were no more scrips for the player ship since the boss is gone, but it was also captured, so it was left onscreen. Not show or why that happened there.
I just went and looked on a 60 in 1. We turn one of the Galagas on Rapid Fire, and leave the other one on regular fire (Galaga is on the 60 in 1, twice). The one that has rapid fire turned on does exactly what this one does, but the one with rapid fire turned off like you said the shots move slower so different stuff gets hit. The one with the rapid fire off the boss ends up on the far right side, and catches the player... then shortly after that, the player retrieves the ship and has a double ship for awhile (then both are destroyed). So I think it's what you surmised, when the rapid fire is turned on it makes the characters on the attract screen, which was designed to show how to get your ship caught... makes the timing all off and it glitches. Interesting!
Great video, I just purchased a Galaga machine, How do I tell what year it is? Also, are some of the original boards in the galaga machines worth more than others?

I love this game and I remember when it first came out and the software defect where the ships would come down at hypersonic speed and crash into you and there was no way to move out of the way they fixed that with a software update and I don't know if they just replaced the chips or if they replace the whole board and I don't know what the versions were but I do know that the original version had that huge defect Do you know what version that update was ? Hi guys, anyone know roughly what colour blue the original Galaga blue is. Trying to match it to something close but nothing looks right to my ancient eyes. I want to try and get it as close as possible a paint code or colour name. Any help appreciated :)

I'm needing a little help with building my cabinet I'm building it based on Midway from 1981 based on the Pac-Man Ms Pac-Man galaga style cabinet. The thing that I'm needing help with is how far from the bottom of the cabinet is the bottom part of the monitor railing and how far from the bottom of the cabinet is the top of the monitor railing and how long is the rowing going along the sides already have mine mounted in but I feel that it is too high up I'm wanting a bit more of a precise height please help if anybody has a cabinet like this that they can quickly measure thank you.
You may be really good at the game, but I always thought that the difficulty curve of this game is so much slower than any other arcade game from that time. It gets really hard of course but it takes a long time. I wonder how this came to be in terms of profitability, I mean a game where the average play session may last for 10 minutes, as opposed to maybe 3 minutes for a game like Pac-Man (considering the average which includes beginners and not very skilled players).
Thank you for the correction. I have a quesiton for you... I filmed this years ago, and you watched the whole thing... i'm serious about this, why did you feel like you needed to comment, and your only comment was to tell me I was wrong? There was nothing else you wanted to comment on? Did you think I'd somehow be able to go back in time and fix the mistake? Curious why people make a comment just to complain about things that can't be changed. You might want to give some thought to whether or not you do this in other areas of your life that mean something more than this, it might be holding you back.
I can't speak for everyone.... But I rather know the flaws of something before I buy it, especially if I really want it.. Rather than see them or figure them out after I buy it, and end up feeling Lied too or somehow Cheated because I would definitely return it.
