I think the future of golf is right here on this platform. I think the PGA/LIV controversy has driven many casual golfers away from competitive golf. I now find 95% of my golf viewing is on TH-cam it’s exciting and different a lot more enjoyable than 4 hrs of mindless watching. I really do enjoy watching the ladies tours and enjoy seeing them swing a club more than the men, but again I find myself choosing channels like yours to get my golf viewing fixes. Of course this is my opinion on it.
I just think they should play from the same tees or not make claims. Ling is right, the games are different. One, women, are playing the same game as the kids (both genders) and the men are playing harder golf. I don't agree women can't compete with men, just that they are being given a crutch to not be forced to do so in the case of golf. Guys beat their bodies up to be able to hit it far enough to compete, women just dump irons off half the tees... 50% driver swing equals iron shot btw....
@@johnklaus9111 Michelle Wei tried and quit the game terribly. A men's par 4 can easily be 500 yards whereas it's a par 5 to women. They are just not in the same level.
Hello Gen, over a 14 year period I made it to the club singles knockout semi final 12 times. I won half of those and won every final. I'm the only person to win it more than twice and I got 6 in total. My thoughts on matchplay. 1. The best way intimidate an opponent is quite simply to hit the fairway. Doesn't need to be long just get it on the short grass. 2. Don't beat yourself. Play your own game, play the golf course, make your usual pars and usual bogies. Don't worry about what the other guy is doing. In fact ignore him. 3. Don't try and break a deadlock. All square and 4 to go let the other guy worry about that. When they try and reach for a birdie more often than not they come up with a bogie. 4. Shooting your handicap will usually win a match. It's rare that people break their handicap so concentrate on playing to your handicap. Obviously there is nothing you can do about a guy shooting 9 under their handicap when you are giving 17 shots! I know all about that one! 5. Never relax and let an opponent back in. 4 up at the turn? Then finish him off as soon as you can. Never give them a sniff of hope.
Great to see matchplays either males or females. Personaly , I need to quiet my swing... That is one of the reason I'm a fan of yours 😍 Loved the little touches of humour😂
To your point at 4:45 you'd add distance and use less club if you didn't pull your arms down. Don't believe me? Play this back on a PC, pause at the top of your swing and use the period button ".>" to go frame by frame. Your arms get away from you thus making your (excellent) rotation somewhat useless. Keep your lead arm tight against your body, it will give you effortless distance.
When chipping, match play or stroke play, I always try to chip in... At first that caused me to often be too long, but I've learned to control distance better even when zeroing on the hole! Same goes for putting. I never try to "stay close" or "lay up", but to hole the ball almost deadweight. That way, if it doesn't go in I'm not too far, but I WANT it in!!
I always feel like there's an element of "want" in golf. Wanting it badly enough (while also focusing on what you are supposed to do) can make amazing things happen 😉
I'll be a spectator at the Australian open in December. First golf event to combine Men, Women, All abilities in the one program. I have no idea how it will be formatted, but it's good to see things heading in the right direction!!!
Great video! Really enjoyed the Scandinavian Mixed as well this year (being a Swede, it sits close to heart :) ) but would like to see more mixed events, for sure. Would especially like to see the Presidents Cup being a mixed event - or why not a brand new "world vs us vs eu" tournament with mixed teams on all sides? Thanks for great content vids & good luck with life on Tour!
Another excellent and thought provoking video. I feel you can apply everything you’ve said to different handicap groups. I now play off 9.3 and notice the difference in distance hit against scratch golfers and those off of 20. More like this please Gen.
Definitely agree, Iain! Doesn't matter how good your short game is, if you can't hit it a specific distance (especially if you're playing off the back tees), you can't consistently compete with someone who is 30-50 yards longer than you because that's just a massive amount of pressure on your short game and birdies will be so hard to come by!
Love watching your videos (very insightful commentary) plus enjoy watching the LET and LPGA tournaments as the ladies tempos are a thing of beauty and there accuracy is phenomenal. Just look at the J.Y.Ko, M.Lee, Thitikul, L.Ko, etc. just watching you play wants me to get better at my approach play and putting. Wishing you great success on the LET and hopefully progress to the LPGA.

Since the LIV war I only watch LPGA, LET, KLPGA etc. It's great watching quality golf without the ego's and greed. The other benefit is the distances are relative to my swing so I appreciate the consistency of the female golfers...
Excellent video. One thing I would like to add - pay attention to the stroke you/your opponent have on each hole. Eg. if I have a lot of strokes over my opponent, I'm just going to try to bogey every hole instead of trying too hard to par everything. Beautiful golf course!
I agree with Iain: Another thoughtful, excellent video. I think that most male amateurs, while they can watch men's pro golf for entertainment, should watch women's pro golf for game improvement since their distances are closer to women's pros' than mens'.

The distance difference between tees needs to account for more than just driver distances, and everyone needs to account for this when selecting tees. If you hit a good drive, you should be using the same club number for your approach. Move up to the tees that give you an equivalent approach shot.

@@GenevieveLingGolf no doubt, especially if they were on tv, image is a big deal. I’m a competitive golfer as well and a +1 handicap. It’s hard finding guys who want to play so I always offer to play from the same tees because men have an idea that women are slower players. This is not true, statistically men are slower players and anyone playing behind men will attest. So offering to play from the same tees seems to help even though it doesn’t make sense because when I win, there’s no real defense as to how they lost. Hi Gen, new putter centre shafted ? Mixed events could bring mixed outcomes, I personally would love to see more. Again personally for me I really enjoy watching the woman's game, It's more relatable to the average club golfer and If the "average" club golfer used the female golf game as a influence/reference they'd score better (just my opinion)
Love your comments on the mixed Event and would like see more of those kind if Events rather than the LIV concept where gold loaded guys play something similar to a club medal for millions.
I also think we should have more mixed Tour events. It's great to watch good female and male golfers "mixing it up". As to distance, when I came back to golf in my mid-twenties (I played a bit as a junior), just about the longest hitter in the club aside from the pro was a 16-year-old girl. In those days I could hit it 250 or more (usually into the bush), and she could get it 10 metres past me; and finish up in the middle of the fairway.
@@GenevieveLingGolf Yes, indeed. And she made it look easy too. She was a great player. I don't think she ever tried to turn her talent into a career. I never saw her name up in lights anywhere. I lost touch with her when I was posted away from the area. When I came back some years later she'd left the district.
Mixed events would be awesome. The men can still show off the power game and the women can showcase their precision to a crowd that may have never seen pro ladies play.
Great video Gen. My friend and I play weekend golf with a guy who is a distance bully. He plays our tee box where he should really play one back. Makes him feel good being 20-30 yds by us I guess. The PGA ave. is 7200yd. The LPGA ave. is 6400yd or 89% of the men. The PGA ave. drive is 295yd and the LPGA ave drive is 256yd or 87% of the men. A given Tour course set up for the men or the women every thing else being equal will play harder for the women.
It sounds like a strange idea when talking about pros, but there were more events with both men and women, perhaps it would work best if there were some sort of handicap to adjust both the men and women so the pairings would be fair. I'd like to see more mixed events; I think it'd be interesting to see the different styles of play on the same course at the same time to compare how each group would attack each hole.
I absolutely think they should have more PGA/LPGA events. I think the 'Match' they have every year would be a good one for that because it can show personality more.
Im loving this match. Gen I have noticed that the ladies seem to be shooting between 10 - 20 under par every LPGA. ??? Yes I would love to see the men and women competing together sometimes but not always.
Gen I personally think that PGA tour should do this we are loosing to many golfers to Greg Normans live golf I would like to see a mix tournament to be honest
I agree with those who said they would like to see a mixed men and women tournament. As we all know, Golf is Golf; having said that, men would easily accept losing to a woman. Also, I would enjoy couples' tournaments (teams). Thanks Gen
Nice Vlog, my match play needs to improve and am not certain I understand the advice, but I play better in Stroke play so maybe you are saying I should not be thinking of my opponent or his score just play the best i can
It’s not just two clubs difference but each club also goes a shorter distance. 150 yards is 7 iron vs 9 iron. Shorter clubs easier to hit also making it an additional advantage
Yes, the Olympics should be mixed format team events. A missed opportunity. For spectators we would love to see more mixed DP World/PGA/LPGA tournaments. It would be the best way to promote the game to a wider audience.
You asked about the future of golf: Ball and club innovations have always driven change in golf; the longer one hits the ball, the more one can take advantage of equipment upgrades. In my opinion, this is not always positive. For example, golf is the only major sport where players can choose from a variety of balls to use; therefore, I believe in "one ball for all" just as in tennis, baseball, cricket, football/soccer, handball, or any other sport which uses a ball. Another negative change is in clubs: Club changes are making some great courses, such as Merion, no longer useable for major tournaments, and club changes are forcing tournament venues to constantly lengthen their courses. I would like to see the average male pro have to hit a long or middle iron into a long par four; I would like to see the average male pro hit a three-wood into an average par five. What would happen if, for example, men's professional golf went back to when woods were made mostly of wood and irons consisted mostly of iron? Several years ago, the PGA made rules about the use of steroids. My response was, "Balls and clubs have been on steroids for years." That said, increases in distance and accuracy due to better player conditioning, mechanics, and mentality are to be welcomed. Tiger Woods revolutionized pro golf in more ways than one. He made strength and fitness conditioning essential for those wishing to compete at the highest level. This is what golf should be about, athleticism not equipment. The foregoing is my opinion. It is not likely shared by many who make their living at golf.
Everything comes down to making money and media exposure for the sponsors. For example, Company sponsors a coed tournament, pays $2 million (purse money for men and women) and receive 10 commercials. But if Company sponsors the tournament separately, pays $1 million and receive 10 commercials (for men), and pay $1 million and receive 10 commercials (for female)...Company gets twice the media exposure with 20 combine commercials for the same money invested.
I don't know if they have the greens rolling much faster on the PGA tour vs LPGA but it's very obvious lag putting for the women is incredible. Their avg distance from the cup on putts longer than 30ft seems better than the men. The mens game has turned into 100% power. Courses are cutting the rough down and encouraging them to hit it 350 because it brings in fans. I'm not a fan of that, I like the accuracy because it's the hardest part of golf; consistency!
Mixed events are always going to be controversial, just like net, handicapped events. Obviously there's a distance difference... But then some players hit it a long way, it's their advantage, other are shorter hitters with more accurate with their irons or short game(think DeChambeau v. Morikawa for men, Anne van Dam v. Moriya Jutanugarn for women). "Equalizing" difference by using different tees is a bit problematic in this regard. Sometimes it will favour long hitting women, sometimes it favours men... and the only way to have a truly fair competition is "everyone from the same distance, playing the same course" (in that regard the shotgun format of LIV is way better than the traditional spread of tee times over the day). What could make a mix event "fair" would be a mixed pairs event, everyone from the same tees if alternate shots, men from backs, women from more forward tees for four-balls... All the pairs would then be similarly treated. Indeed it's nice to look at women's golf... For some male amateurs they get to see how to play a course well with distances similar to their... For others, it's a reminder that distance counts a lot, for a similar ability level. I do hit the ball a bit further than PGA average yet I don't score nearly as well as LPGA average on courses not that much longer than what the ladies tours play on!
I would love to see more collaboration between the men and women tours. Ms. Grant's victory was huge for the women's game. I think more cross gender tournaments will eventually lead to pay equity. 🤜🏿🤛🏿🇯🇲
If I focus too much on what my opponent is doing in matchplay, I can easily lose holes that I should win. I just focus on my own game and try to make birdie or pars. If they OB, I choose a conservative club or play. Best an amateur can do I guess
The major difference between men and women pros is confidence. I've volunteered at a dozen LPGA tourneys in player transportation, driving the golfers around town, and am always surprised when College stars, Solheim Cup stars, etc say they are thinking of giving up while going through a rough couple of years. Linn Grant, 11 more tourneys before reaching 35 as pro, so she'll be top 20 and maybe top 10 world ranking after tourney 35. (not many people understand the Rolex math).
Probably also because society sets a "limit" on how long women golfers can play pro.. after a certain age, we get the question "when are you getting married? Don't you want to have kids?".. you could say it's a little different for men and women 😅
Yes, definitely that is a difference. In Canada we've had 15 female pros quit in the last 2 years, now we only have 1 on Epson Tour and 1 younger than Brooke on LPGA (and she lost her card).
I’m tired to the same old 72 hole stroke play week after week. This is one reason why LIV was started. There should be more collaboration between the PGA and the LPGA.
Accuracy and power wins in golf. I actually like womens golfer better because women usually use all the clubs in there bag. Men driver wedge putt. except par 3s. Plus a woman's swing is much smoother. I love to see a pair up tournament. Play it like ryder cup, scramble, alt, best ball, and single score
That dp world tour thing.. no.. different tees... If you aren't playing from the same tees, you're not playing the same course. That woman should remain silent.
different tees simply mean different course (despite playing in the same golf course), and different difficulties. It cannot simply measure by the difference in distance. Any golfer who turun padang at least once a week aware of this. Therefore, this is a match play? 😂
You should from Mens tee to make it fair game. Otherwise its cheating. Also if you always use 5-6 iron into green , when you really play LPGA tour , you will be like monster
I feel the difference between a male and female pro is marginal at best. But there is a difference, and it's used to stop amateur women playing amateur men. There's no difference in amateur golf, except at the Pro end of the game, where amateurs are as good as Pros. Gentlemen Only Ladies Forbidden GOLF It's time to change and if the Pro Tour's can't... then it's time to end the Tour's and start again.

That's awesome, she's a bomber! 💪🏼
Good to see you.
Watching Linn Grant win was amazing. What you said is spot on about distance.
Do you do any speed training, like with SuperSpeed or Stack?
Great video Gen. My friend and I play weekend golf with a guy who is a distance bully. He plays our tee box where he should really play one back. Makes him feel good being 20-30 yds by us I guess. The PGA ave. is 7200yd. The LPGA ave. is 6400yd or 89% of the men. The PGA ave. drive is 295yd and the LPGA ave drive is 256yd or 87% of the men. A given Tour course set up for the men or the women every thing else being equal will play harder for the women.
Should Bryson have to tee off 30 yards back?
It sounds like a strange idea when talking about pros, but there were more events with both men and women, perhaps it would work best if there were some sort of handicap to adjust both the men and women so the pairings would be fair. I'd like to see more mixed events; I think it'd be interesting to see the different styles of play on the same course at the same time to compare how each group would attack each hole.
I love your swing, so neat and tidy, 🏴⛳x
I absolutely think they should have more PGA/LPGA events. I think the 'Match' they have every year would be a good one for that because it can show personality more.
Would be so fun to watch!
7:40 87m/96y you use a 50degree then 11:50 basically same yardage and looks like lie, it's a 54? wondering why the different clubs?
YES to more mixed events! You could even crown a male and femal winner and an overall winner on top.
Yes, the Olympics should be mixed format team events. A missed opportunity.
For spectators we would love to see more mixed DP World/PGA/LPGA tournaments. It would be the best way to promote the game to a wider audience.
Hopefully more in the future! Totally agree with you 👏🏼
Love these matches. I would like to see the PGA/LPGA do some tournaments like this.
My response was, "Balls and clubs have been on steroids for years."
That said, increases in distance and accuracy due to better player conditioning, mechanics, and mentality are to be welcomed.
Love to see some mixed Team events with a Ryder Cup style format!
100% in favour of mixed events whether they be as singles, pairs, whatever.....golf needs to shake things up a bit
Jack Nicklaus said never play your opponent, always focus on playing the course. That’s what I try to do.
I'd like to see the President's Cup become a mixed event.
Lpga, klpga, elpga my favourites. I don't watch much pga.
If as Gen said, the women and men play different games - then why combine them? Unless everyone plays from the same tee-box; then its fair
Gen, how would you rate yourself as a ballstriker? You seem to be about a 9/10 to me. It seems like we rarely see you mis hit a ball.
That dp world tour thing.. no.. different tees...
If you aren't playing from the same tees, you're not playing the same course.
That woman should remain silent.
Malaysian Rockstar picks up Groupie for 18. Fixed your title.
😂😂
ball in back pocket looks like you pood your pants :0
i don't believe that for a minute, 50yds is the average for a pro male and pro female.
different tees simply mean different course (despite playing in the same golf course), and different difficulties.

It's time to change and if the Pro Tour's can't... then it's time to end the Tour's and start again.
I think all men's professional leagues should be open to females but I do not believe the opposite to be true.
from the same tee they can’t fairly compete.
Keyboard warriors 🤣🤣🤣
the guy is consistently hitting 1 club too short on his approach shots.. :/
✌😎☠
Havnt watched the video yet but imma guess 60yrds off the tee
you're not wrong 🤪
