It kind of irritates me that people compare him to Sakurai like it's a bad thing. Atsushi Sakurai is awesome, and he's not easy to imitate. But I'll say this, I hear just as much Issay (Der Zibet) and Morrie (Dead End, Creature Creature) in his budding voice, and that can only be a good thing. This band could really be something special in the future. They have my attention. Looking forward to the album that they should have called "Cosmic Masquerade".
I KNOW! I actually see more than Atsushi there (and if the rumors WERE true about his being Atsushi's son, I'm actually proud of him for NOT playing up who his father is and riding on his and Buck-Tick's fame, but for trying to make it for himself, as himself, which would be VERY hard for the very few children of Visual Kei artists that take up the scene and genre for themselves to do unless they did keep it secret), and to be honest? It DOESN'T MATTER. Vaniru is one of the few 2010s Visual Kei bands I've actually seen as promising in a LONG time. I get the same sense here that I get watching X Japan's or Buck-Tick's or Malice Mizer's or Dir en grey's early stuff (though obviously those are very different styles), that sense of "these guys have it and are going to go places for real."
They are classed as Visual Kei often and as that label is subjective, I don't see how you have the authority to claim otherwise. Their styles aren't as peacock-ish as other examples, but seeing as the classification is largely subjective and unrelated to the actual music... I fail to understand why you even care in the first place.

2 points: 1st) Jpop is probably the only place where you can pronounce "Cosmique Nighte" as badly as you can without a single person criticizing you about that, and that is AWESOME. 2nd) It's the first time I see a videoclip made in a SO damn SHORT SPACE!! You almost can't even walk on that ground!!!
I think all the mean comments could be avoided if Vaniru will talk(if they haven't already) about their inspiration. They seem to have a nice start as a band and Leoneil is charming. But if it's all about the marketing stuff trying to make a good formula for what a succes j-rock band should be like, then it's a waste of beauty and nice sounding. IF it's all natural and Leoneil is simply himself, plus some sides of the splendid Sakurai Atsushi here and there, then it's just mesmerizing to see the mix alive. Let's give them some time.. many great bands started by imitating other greater bands, and in time they developed their own personality. So.. Good luck to them. and BE honest, please, so that when you'll be famous, your spiritual daddies (Buck Tick, among others I guess) won't be left aside with your pretention to be all authentic. I love Leoneil a lot, but I do with Yuto got more screen time, considering this is a duo; however this isn't their fault, the director chooses who gets more screen time. It's just a personal thing, I like seeing the whole group, not just one. On that note, Leoneil has a great voice and an interesting style of moving, almost like he's possessed by the music, very interesting to watch. And something else I like is the editing and effects in their MV's, it's very simple, very basic, and very captivating. Where I do like big videos like Dir en Grey's Ukuro, Nocturnal Bloodlust's Providence, and Lycaon's Shadows, basic effects and transitions are also very nice, showing off more of the music and the band.

Seriously, look at the singer of Vaniru, the way he moves in his music videos, his gestures, the make-up on his face, his clothes style etc. I've never seen an artist like Atsushi Sakurai, this guy is able to hypnotize the audience, he loves to play and share emotions with his audience, he obviously has influenced a lot of people. They were the opening act for Calmando Qual in Germany in May. i did not see their concert but i saw both members attending the GOTHIKA concert in Berlin which I saw. They are really young but make good music at their age already!!
